Adobe After Effects 2018 (AE 2018) is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of film making and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor and media transcoder.
CINEMA 4D is a 3D modeling, animation, motion graphic and rendering application developed by MAXON Computer GmbH in Germany. It is capable of procedural and polygonal/subd modeling, animating, lighting, texturing, rendering, and common features found in 3D modelling applications.

I wanted to understand how you made camera for it, but you didn't show :c
Make it a 3D layer and keyframe a camera move along it. You can add depth of field in the camera settings.
I wanted to know which dof settings he used, yes.
You could find another tutorial on 'dof', or just experiment with the settings (at least if you understand them, or even if not). There are a lot of good tutorials on the AE cameras out there, so I suggest just start looking.
It's not exactly the same but close, using the default camera.
Camera Transform
Position: 0, 2500, -500
Camera Options
Zoom: 4500px
Depth of Field: On
Focus Distance: 2250px
Aperture: 200px
Blur Level: 85%
Iris Shape: Hexagon
All other camera values left at default.
Then I placed a Null at Position: 0,0,0. I then pick whipped the Camera to the Null and keyframed between two Y values.
Done!
Your CC Repetile layer will be too small when viewed from this angle, so just crank those repetitions way up!

Question - when I create the polygons the anchor moves towards the bottom right of it - how do I resolve that?

I agree with @MexiFri, this video is good for people who are already well versed in After Effects but you need to explain how you got certain polygon shapes and what not. My sh- is stuck on Pentagons and I don't know how to change it.
I have been trying to do this for hours now. When I use the polygon tool, it makes the sides uneven so it looks dumb when it spins. Any way around this?

If your polygon only produces a pentagon (5 sides), press the UP key whilst still holding down the mouse
