After playing the game for 5 years and going from Mute to Unmute several times and learning sign, It is true you can have an amazing time without saying a single word. Some people who don't say anything are the most expressive of them all.

A couple of my friends on Vrchat are actual IRL Mutes and so I began learning sign language and just knowing the alphabet you can already get so far. Being able to communicate to those people through sign language gives them so much joy to see random players taking there time to learn there language. So if you want to start learning sign language I do suggest going the worlds listed in the video because they are the best and most used ones. Go out there and have some fun and keep learning new things ! :3

I have met a few mutes over my relatively short time playing VRChat. I even have a couple in my friends list. At first i found it hard to communicate with them and sometimes that is still the case. However I have big respect for the mutes. Behind ever avatar in VRC is a person. That person is unique in their own way. And if they are mute than there is nothing wrong with that. VRC is a place where everyone can be who they want to be.

It's fantastic that you can learn sign language through VRChat and in a community setting. Long ago when VR was fresh and the original Rift was the latest and greatest; I never imagined how useful VR would be, many people just saw it as a gimmick but now it's clearly more than just entertainment.

I know American Sign Language since I went to a special education school, however when I learned to talk with speech therapy and got into mainstream school where everyone talks all the time and no sign language, the only ones I see signs everyday are my interpreters but it's not the same with friends (my friends are either far away or went to college in a different state), I see my friends on social media but it's all text based/pictures. I did try signing in ASL in VRChat but I'm still adjusting with my Quest 2. Trying to sign while relying on buttons and sensors is going to take me a while, lol. I love to talk so yeah, haha. I know English, Spanish and ASL.

thank you for making this video! for a long time i was self conscious about being a mute and constantly got told "vr chat is a social game and the whole point of the game is to talk so why even play if you're not going to" it put me off the game for some time.. the small speech you did near the end about how its okay to not talk if thats how you want to play and how you can still have a fulfilling time ingame and make friends whilst being mute made me smile a lot. I had no idea people taught sign language in vr but that's such a cool idea and i think ill stop by those worlds to learn some stuff if i can :]

I stay muted in vrchat most of the time, and im not sure how i found out about vrchat sign since it never really came up in my mind but now im so happy that i learned it because if i never learned some vrchat asl, i wouldnt have met the people i know now. Sometimes people dont understand me and i need to talk but i have some friends that ive never used my voice with so im scared if they hear my voice lol. But to whoever reads this i totally recommend learning, even if its vr sign or real life sign, just learn it if you really want to! Its super fun to be able to understand what people are saying to you. Depends on how i feel a certain day, if im not feeling well or not liking hearing myself i dont talk but if i dont care ill talk. I wont say im selective mute or mute because i feel thats not the right thing for me to say, so instead i say thst im either mute by choice or that my mic is muted but even when its muted im not talking. If anyone read this thank you and have a good day/night whoever you are

Basically you click on what u want and what ever thing you click on, the word/words apper above your avatars head to make it easier to communicate! Tho they are rare, they are great for the mute community!

  • @failedhuman2830
    @failedhuman2830 Před 2 lety +1

I have auditory processing disorder, which in short term means, I don't have the ability to focus on sound, so it makes it very hard to understand people in certain environments.
Thou what I found out while trying VR chat is that there is no background sound apart from other people speaking, and that if someone is talking far away from you and a person talking with you, is near you, I noticed the sound reduction is pretty strong which helps a tone, as if this was in real life, I would have to guess some words of what the person is saying to me.
This kinda makes me want to get more into VR, as tbh even having gaming friends, it's hard as most of the time, even after heavily tweaking game sound and VC, it's not enough as VC and game sounds can get intense. Thou APD comes as a curse and a blessing, as it gives you highted senses, which helps alot in pvp pve games, I can hear enemy activity miles away but I ain't gonna be able to understand 90% of what your saying, to put it basically 🤣

In my VRChat friends group we have a deaf person. She always plays with a friend that's translating the important stuff of our conversation to her in sign language. It's really hard for her to keep up when there are more than 4 people. When we are speaking directly to her we try to speak really slow so her friend can translate. Since I met her I don't care about mutes at all. Most can hear and have a mic but I don't judge them at all. It's a game and I won't discriminate anyone unless they are racist or offensive.
Most mutes I've met were really nice and friendly. They tried their best to communicate with us even if it's just possible with yes or no questions.
I rather be with mutes that are trying to be nice than speaking people that are weird. And we all know that VRChat has some of the most toxic and weird people out there.

Now that is nice video. Have not seen this video earlier, and i am creator of Sign&Fun. I helped deaf community since 2019 and my world was popular in old times.
We have still to work at videos, and many videos need updated too because sign language is living language, changes over time.
Stay mute has many reasons. Part is also due your voice and background, so you don't want others hear who you are. Can exposes your identity a bit by guessing gender and age, and accent will tell where you might come from.
Social anxiety is another point, VRChat is good to learn to speak with others as therapy.
And still we have some big streamers on Twitch which are still mute. So yeah it's possible.
But as mute in VRChat, that is kinda hard to go around. Sign language is good solution because it's faster than TTS or keyboard / pencils. If you wish don't speak, go learn sign language!
Respecting to have some look at deaf community and my world. My world is updated often and in future i want redesign world again to make it more comfy place.

I never understood why people were mute by choice in vrchat. Yeah if you have bad social skills its hard talking to people but the point of vrchat is to socialize with others, not only that but its not like your going up to someone in real life and they can actually see and hear you. Theres a mute button for a reason and theres an unmute button for a reason. Either way i still respect my friends who are mute

I am a half mute so I do use my mic sometimes, mainly I only talk to friends and um well it’s sometimes difficult to answer questions without my voice. If your full mute I feel your pain it’s almost impossible to get people to understand you. Have a nice day.

I love mutes. They make me talk. Even if they can only say yes or no. I talk until they eventually feel comfortable. Of course in a nice way.
