- Metal Detecting: In the video the History Digger talks about how to use the Ugly Box Electrolysis machine to clean coins. He uses an old silver barber quarter and demonstrates how the ugly box is used to perform "electrolysis" on the dirty coin. The results are outstanding! Rob walks through the parts of the Ugly Box, how they are made by the Detect America team and also shares some lessons he learned during his first few attempts to clean coins using electrolysis and the ugly box. If you are new to metal detecting and are looking for some ways to clean your coins....be sure to give it a watch and to check out the Ugly Box by Detect America.
Thanks for stopping by. Am very pleased with the Ugly Box and the results to date. Do you use electrolysis to clean your coins or other methods? Drop a comment if you'd like to let others know. Thanks and happy digging!

That think looked amazing! I would stop right there. I'm gonna have to get one of those things soon. Thanks for sharing!

Much appreciated!! Thanks for watching.
That's a hot Rob!
Very cool video, I am loving the ugly box since I saw it on nycdetecting video. Lucky it didn't fry with 9v instead of 6v power, but shows it is well made. Wonder if they selling in the UK yet?
Yes I was lucky...was in a hurry that day...had a b-day party and didn't stop to pay close enough attention to the instructions. Pretty sure using a 9-volt would eventually burn out the accessories.
Ótimo vídeo amigo e explicação.

In addition to electrolysis you can use grade 0000 steel wool to help scrub coins. Keep it wet and scrub in only one direction. A drop of dish detergent can help
Thanks for the info!
ok So now I know what the Ugly Box is..I seen post of face book but never asked..lol..that coin came out looking Great...
Thanks Dan.
What is that stabiliser mixed of?
Really enjoy your videos my friend! Any chance if I sent one of tubas you could do this for me? lol
Lol. That would require quite a bit of postage! ;)
It's only one coin at a time? It can you do bulk coins at once?
You can do as many as you can clamp onto the diode but yes, better to do one at a time.A tumbler is better for multiple items but of course that’s a different process.
NICE VIDEO! WAS LOOKING AT THESE! YOU GOT A NEW SUB HERE FROM A FELLOW DIGGER! #lostboysrecovery
Thanks Rob, results look great. One question - does clamping the alligator clip onto the coin damage the coin at all?
Hi Andy - I have not had that happen but do take care when I am clamping it on. You do need to make sure it makes contact so there is a small risk I suppose that it could scratch the coin. These coins are usually in less than perfect shape. Short answer - no, have not seen any visible damage.
@@TheHistoryDigger1 Thanks Rob. I just ordered one and I look forward to getting it and seeing what it can do.
Maybe I should try it on that Indian I found..olive oil did ok but still can’t make the date.
You can...check out the tutorial site though as it is a bit of a different process for copper coins and a no go on nickel. Here are some of the instructions on their site: Nickels (pure nickel and nickel alloys) should not be treated with the Ugly box; as there is a risk of discoloration and other damage.
Copper objects - including pennies - are treated a little differently. Start off the process with leads at opposite ends of the tank and run the unit for short durations.
