The alternator consists of the following elements: stator, rotor, front and back cover, rectifier unit, fan, and drive pulley.
The generator set on cars is a three-phase synchronous electric car.
The stator is a non-rotating part of the generator and consists of separate sheets of electrical steel coated with a varnish for removing eddy currents. On the inner side of the plate there are grooves in which eighteen windings are placed, divided into three phases, six pieces each.
The phases in the generator are connected by a star. The ends of the phases are output to the diode bridge.
The rotor is a rotating part of the generator, consisting of a shaft of two beak-like dense tips, between which the excitation winding is placed, the ends of which are soldered to two contact rings.
The back cover-it contains a diode bridge, which is a horseshoe-shaped aluminum tire, on which six diodes are fixed. In the upper part of the back cover, a brush holder with two brushes is installed.
The generator is driven from the engine crankshaft via a V-belt transmission.
Principle of operation of the generator.
The current from the battery through the brushes and contact rings enters the excitation winding, which together with the pole tips forms a magnetic field. When the rotor rotates, the beaks in turn pass through the stator winding induces a variable in magnitude by directing the EMF along three wires, an alternating current is directed to the diode bridge, where it converts to a direct current.
