Impressive how much physics was involved and you could build these complex systems simply on mechanics. Now a days you would have sensors inside that would detect whether the liquid has touched and the barrel and send out signals to stop it. I hope this kind of tech never gets lost
I’ve worked at a gas station for 15 years and this video was more educational about gas pumps than the thousands of videos I’ve been forced to watch for “training”
Exactly this. I've been able to fill up my tank far more than how much room there would actually be from there this says it detects gas. If I filled my tank according to this, there would be maybe .1gal left before you could see it in the neck of filler, when in reality if you're careful you could potentially add an extra 2gal or a little more.
It sucks in air that goes back into the flowing gas, the cold gas condensates gas fumes to prevent explosions from gas fumes leaking out of the tank too much
it's also because of the evap system in the car as well. the tank does hold a certain level of evaporated fuel. so even when the pump stops and you try to keep it going you're filling the tank with too much liquid leaving less space for the gas.
Vapor recovery, when the gas is put into the tank underground the truck removes the vapors as the gas is being dropped. This video is great to show how it works, also note that when you top the tank off it can break the device inside the nozzle overtime
Honestly now I need to buy the two Zack D Films vehicles. Because honestly, the cars are so smart they tell you how things work! I could finally become smart and get a job!
Same concept happens when the tanker drops fuel into the underground storage tanks. “Empty” tankers are full of vapors. Then take them back to the refinery for processing

If the pump keeps “popping” when attempting to fuel, tip the nozzle up and hold it while you fuel. This will eliminate the air bubble and allow you to pump freely.
It actually triggers below the filler neck. Inside the tank, there is a passage that gets covered, causing air to go up the filler neck and clicking off the nozzle
“Gas” in this case is short for “gasoline.” It’s not the same word as “gas” meaning “vaporized liquid.” I’m not sure if you’re aware but the English language has many dual use words, such as “can” (verb) and “can” (container), “pant” (a leg of your pants) and “pant” (to breathe rapidly), “screen” (the thing you’re looking at) and “screen” (to check for abnormalities). There are many other examples of this, it’s not unusual at all.
