Nokia and Google Successfully Test 50 Gig PON in Kansas City

Less than a year after deploying Nokia's 25 Gig PON solution, Google and Nokia have completed a successful test of 50 Gig PON on a live network in Kansas City. Google says they are looking toward the future, and are "committed to pursuing speeds of 100 Gig and beyond". At this time Nokia is unable to achieve symmetrical speeds at 50 Gbps because of how close the wavelengths are between the upstream and downstream and the Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) needed to separate those channels. Nokia has previously tested PON technology that supports up to 100 Gbps.
