For those of you commenting on the bassist and drummer, here's an update. The bassist is now a graduate of MSU with a Masters in Music Composition and an astonishing bassist in metal-based groups; the drummer is a graduate of Full Sail University with a BS in Audio Arts, and is a multi instrumentalist working with various bands and songwriters, and doing producer work in his studio. :)
The fact that the micing and PA arrangement makes this a lead bass tune does nothing to take away from her performance, which is damn good for age/experience. To quote Lenny on Law & Order, "I have ties older than her." "And maybe a pair of shoes, too." LOL
@oldskuul Really? Wicked awful? what musical videos of yourself are you posting? would like to see them. These kids are 14-17 years old..... 5 years ago.... today, two are at Berklee, the bass player is graduating UOFM with a degree in Music, the drummer is a multi-instrumentalist, has a recording studio, has sat in with Dweezil Zappa ; and teaches 15 students on drums, bass and guitar; the blond singer is a songwriter and metal drummer well known in Detroit (her BF is actually Nugent's drummer). So, wicked awful is really not how one would describe these kids.
A hit in the summer of 1968 for Detroit’s Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes, kept alive by this group of talented teenagers who appreciate good music. Congratulations, and Rock On!
This proves what good parenting, and a great musical education can do. I played this song in high school, and I will truly tell you, the guitar solo was one of the most challenging things I ever learned at the tender age of 16. Kudos to these champions of Detroit Rock'N'Roll !!!
Yes,with some much gain Will be pretty Easy bu Will completly change the Mood of the solo, with that early breakup and not so wet sound Is pretty hard and he nailed it
That is not a difficult bass line, but it IS ambitious and beyond the energy most people would put into it - this girl is not only nailing it, she's doing it with style, time, and showmanship. There IS hope!!!
Im a 67 year old guitar player from Cleveland ohio. I used to play in 2 great cover bands. Lake effect and vinly tap. We sometimes would open our nite with this great song. I see these kids doing a great job on this cover. If they only knew how cool they are.
Same for me, I think that in today's music climate of all the crap rap, auto-tune , lip syncing etc. It's refreshing and joyful to see young people actully learning to PLAY their instruments and their enthusiasim is contagious.
I bought this 45 when I was about these kids ages, maybe younger. To see youngsters taking on an obscure track like this and do it so well, encourages me immensely.
One of my favorite old rockers!! And they nailed it!! No mistakes, everybody right on and gettin it done!! AWESOME!! Nice to see young peeps playing this stuff and doing it right!!
Yeah, totally agree with you. Just a pity they chose a wrong time and place with close to no audience response. But maybe the purpose was to film it at any given place and upload the result. In any case, i salute them. Hope for the future with youngsters doing covers of golden oldies.
A few of them are going to Berklee Music School, I’m getting my bachelors degree in audio (I’m the drummer) and most, if not all of the people in that band have been going on tour the past few years!
@@maxbeardsley2128 That's great to hear,I figured so as you all have lotsa soul and talent and you really cheered me seeing you play Journey to the Center of the Mind by the Amboy Dukes,it's a fantastic song and nobody else has covered it I know of and you all shredded out a great cover of it,all your songs are awesome and your bandmates from this time, good luck to you all :D
As a now 40 year bass player, I agree with everyone who is impressed with that bass player, confidently playing a line which can be difficult to get right, especially for someone so young. Strong work for sure. Yes, the bass might be too loud, but you say that like it's a bad thing. 😉 It's hard to tell but it looks like she's using an older Ampeg combo amp. It's loud and pretty clean with good tone -- harder to get that outdoors on concrete. If the bass player is too loud, the lead guitar player is too quiet -- for just a second you couldn't tell if that intro lead was being played at all.
Excellent! What energy, creativity and flat-out fun these youngsters had and staying faithful, almost note for note to the original, while putting their own creative spin on it!! This song, imo, was Nugent's best effort and work ever! Amboy Dukes rule!
Well done. Great to see another generation doing this 1960s psychedelic hit! I hope you're still playing this somewhere. It takes energy and YOU have it.
Awesome 👌 I was there at the Golf Manor municipal swimming pool in Cincinnati in 1968 and this came on the radio (1360 WSAI), The Amboy Dukes and Ted Nugent were just up I-75 in Detroit. Spread the word!!
Awesome, this really warmed my heart! I used to listen to this 45 in my bedroom 53 years ago, and it inspired me to start playing guitar that year in 1970. You really captured the feel of the original and actually elevated it to another level!
When teens are playing deep cuts like this - and well - there is still hope for the world.
Sure, in 1968. 30 year before these kids were born. To them it's REALLY deep. They had to be guided there.
There is always hope! Don't underestimate this young and amazing generation! :)
Terrence Davis Big hit in spring, summer of 1968. one of my favs!
@@ktpinnacle Wow. True. Very insightful. "They had to be guided."
@@terrydavis5915 Of course, you jest, we all know this was the Amboy Dukes with Uncle Ted Nugent on screamin' lead.
That girl plays bass like a boss.
She could go somewhere.
Exactly my toughts
Amazing bass player
Anthony Ames, How can you tell the bass can't be heard.
She does got it down.
That girl on bass is killing it; she's cool calm and jamming along!
Killing it? No! She's bringing it to life!
The next Tal Wilkenfeld
All hail the bass player!
She certainly is. As Darth Vader might say: "impressive, most impressive"...
I love that these young people are keeping the greatest music of all time alive 😊
I hate old people
These young folks killed it. God bless them all. Their taste in music is exceptional. Much respect for all of them. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The bass player is tearing it up....awesome

Fantastic
Thanks for the update!
So happy for them. Talented and they worked hard.
The kid on guitar stage right looks like he’s right out of a 70s skateboard movie.
Congratulations to BOTH - totally deserving!
The little blonde chick is killing it on the bass!! She is awesome!!!
No pick.
The fact that the micing and PA arrangement makes this a lead bass tune does nothing to take away from her performance, which is damn good for age/experience. To quote Lenny on Law & Order, "I have ties older than her." "And maybe a pair of shoes, too." LOL
best player indeed.

Ronnie Trosclair, She's just going through the motions. Can't hear the bass at all.
This video has restored my faith in humanity. Good job kids! Well played!

Written by Steve Farmer and Ted Nugent great tune !!
The bassist has a lot of potential.
She is good!
I agree, she has talent!
She's got some Chops!!!===Mitch.
LOL..... hmmmm potential for what exactly?
Summer Tea Stupid question. Potential as a professional musician.
Outstanding bass playing!!! Amazing.
That bass player is getting after it! Nice work guys and gals.
This proves what good parenting, and a great musical education can do.

Nice. Like to see young people playing the the good old jams.
That Bass player is killing it!
I love seeing kids playing this awesome 60's song, we love Rock and Roll, maybe some Psychedelic?
Bass player was exactly on top of this! All did a great job with this Amboy
Dukes tune!
That is not a difficult bass line, but it IS ambitious and beyond the energy most people would put into it - this girl is not only nailing it, she's doing it with style, time, and showmanship. There IS hope!!!
Excellent ,kids!!!! and the drummer has all the fills down pat.
Thank you!
Nice Job, I was 13 when this song came out. Nice to see young people playing rock.
Actually, not too bad. And, these are kids. The chick can work the bass. I like it.
better than not too bad, my friend
I think it's better than it has any right to be, but it's totally awesome that they are even playing that song!
@@stevea6816 I did not mean any offense.
@@spencerdawkins Agreed. I also think it interesting they play this particular song.
She killin' that bass!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got a fever and the only thing that will cure that fever is some killer BASS!😂
respect, respect! and this angel on the bass is heavenly!
The average Joe probably doesn't know that this song exists, or The Amboy Dukes! I'm glad you dug this one up to cover!! Good job!!
arf she said a young ted nugent playing guitar
Ted Nugent baby!
Man I’m 14 and like, mainly listen to 60’s psychedelic rock nowadays
Gosh! I was born in 1950! And I'm sitting here in tears!
Bassist can play! Love the lead singers energy👍
65 yo and It made me smile wide
Stumbled on this just now. What a fantastic version by some talented kids. And good on them for digging up this unappreciated classic!

One of my favorite songs of 68 ,was in jr. high school then.good rendition😊
You guys are amazing!! Great energy! Excellent version!! The bass player.....stunningly talented ..Thank You!
I cant explain it but this made me smile. Bass girl is awesome. Drummer kicks A. Very tight group for a bunch of kids.
Same for me, I think that in today's music climate of all the crap rap, auto-tune , lip syncing etc. It's refreshing and joyful to see young people actully learning to PLAY their instruments and their enthusiasim is contagious.
Greg Arama would be proud of that bassist! If the 2 guitarists would crank up their solos it would be better.
Sam: Greg was in that girl's fingertips, was he not ?
Greg had to be looking down from wherever, with a big wide grin on his face.
If only the audio were better - these great musicians deserve more!
Hell yeah!!! These kids restored my faith in humanity! There may be hope after all.
restored my faith in psychedelic drugs too
Great to see and hear AMERICAN kids playing and having fun. This was great times back then !!!
I have tears in my eyes! Maybe there is hope for our youth!!
I just love that bass player she is killing it!.....must have watched this 10 times.
A lot of respect for these young people. Well appreciated. Thanks 👍
Really great to see young people doing the music that created the world we have now.
These teens kick butt! They went way back for this one and fantastic job!
That brought tears of joy to my eyes. BRILLIANT! MORE!

What a great job they did covering that amazing song!!
Great female vocal interpretation of the original male vocals! Top notch.
very well done younglings. the amboy dukes would be proud.
I nominate that kid for the Nobel Prize for outstanding teen classic rock bassist!
Amazing!!!
Does my heart good to see these young talented kids playing some of the greatest classic rock!
good job guys keeping the classics alive ✌
Absolutely loved it! Keeping the good ole rock alive - awesome.
WOW!!! Even I had forgotten about this old rocker! These kids NAILED it, amazing for their age! Yes, there may be hope yet....
Takes me back to the summer of 1968!
impressive, but this song is guitar dominant, but here it's the bass that dominates. Fortunately the bassist is awesome.
paulyabe, correct sir! Ted chugs on guitar but you don't hear it in this young band. czcams.com/video/Beh1ipK3hN0/video.html
Since the sound is obviously being recorded from out in the audience instead of from a mixing board, the bass is going to be predominant.
true dat
These guys are great hope they kept it up
Thank you! I saw the Amboy Dukes do this live when I was their age; glad the song is still appreciated.
I agree Mike...
Sounds good. Shows kids of today like the songs from the late 60s/70s... Again sounds good, and Im a 66 yr old rock n roller.
Standing Ovation.I was there. I remember. You brought it all back.
I hope ted and the rest are watching this with a great deal of pride
Outstanding. You're all born out of time. As cool as it can be. Bravo.
Outstanding version of an undeservedly often overlooked song.
Bass chic is great. And I'm a guitar player!

Very nice job! The bass player is excellant too.
You have a great band! I love your choice of music!!!❤
I saw Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes play this song in the old Atlanta auditorium back in the 1960s sometime. Wow. That’s been a minute.
I must have watched it over 100 times and i enjoy it !
The whole band is fantastic,bravo
Awesome ! My band played this tune in 67 I remember it well Cause it was tough to play !! Thanks for making me smile :)

Love this song, get job kids!! So glad they appreciate Great music!
It’s been 9 years since this was posted. Hope some of these kids are still in music. It’s a hard business to stay in.
These kids? ON FIRE! The audience? On quaaludes...

I’m 74. This moved me.
Perfect example why you need a good sound man or woman ready to sync those solos. Great effort. Yes, the bass blond is the bomb!
Love watching our youth making music instead of playing on there phones.
AMERICANS have contributed so much great music to the world. This is yet another example, and one of the best.
