    Great video, very entertaining. From what I've found, to get the "smokeless" action it's best best to run with the wood below the inside ring of holes. Wood above the ring of holes will create combustion burning. I've just picked up the Ranger and am totally happy with the choice, thanks for the comparisons!!

    For anyone trying to decide between the Yukon and the Bonfire... get the Bonfire. The Yukon is too big to be manageable, especially considering you are expected to dump out the ashes after just a few uses. If you can't transport the Yukon to someplace covered, then you have to buy the separate Yukon cover to keep rain and snow out of it. I did buy the Yukon, but the magic of the airholes that reignite the smoke and make the fire look so hypnotic doesn't happen unless you build a really huge fire.

    • @thrivept9113
      @thrivept9113 Před 3 lety +7

      I also was deciding between the two and for my family of 6 and goal to utilize the pit as intended with secondary burn holes functioning we also went with the Bonfire. The Yukon would be an absolutely huge fire that would be a challenge to manage or be anywhere near unless you have a dozen people standing 5-6 ft away from it. Big parties or very large groups get the Yukon, everyone else looking for a personal/family fire pit get the bonfire.

      I live in upstate NY and winters are cold here. I had a Bonfire, but I upgraded to the newer Yukon (27" not 30" anymore). I think it is perfect, since we try to stay 6' away from our friends, but still want to stay warm...

    • @trikstar198
      @trikstar198 Před 3 lety +5

      the Yukon is not unmanageable by any means, and is a perfect size for a family of 4. I had the bonfire for awhile and it's nice if you're a couple, or camping with maybe 3 people total. But when you have a family, or in general sitting around with a group of friends, it's better to take the Yukon

    Could you describe a bit how you did the handle on your frying pan? Did you cover it with a layer of RTV and then just slide the silicone cover on top? This seems like a pretty great idea

    • @nanookoutdoors5171
      @nanookoutdoors5171  Před 4 lety +1

      I completely filled the silicone cover first, I wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any air gaps. It's easier to let the excess flow out of the cover than trying to add more and pack it in after.
      After it was full, I put it on my handle trying to center it within the silicone cover.
      I had to let it sit for almost a week before the RTV was fully hard.

    • @nanookoutdoors5171
      @nanookoutdoors5171  Před 4 lety +1

      We painted the bonfire and the ranger with black high temp exhaust paint which is why they are darker. We hoped they would radiate more heat from the sides because most comes out the top. The campfire was never painted but is the oldest stove and has a natural patina, but we start fires on top of the campfire (watch for a future video). The yukon was brand new but is slightly discolored after even one burn - because we spilled fuel on it.

      @cathyedwards2844 Před 4 lety

      I love my ranger, but cutting the logs can be a pain. Once the fire gets going, is there alot of smoke because of the size of the logs?

    • @nanookoutdoors5171
      @nanookoutdoors5171  Před 4 lety +1

      No, the smoke is mostly from adding the citronella fuel, if you are using it properly there is almost no smoke. Each stove has it's best range for wood size. While camping the typical sticks and small branches work really well for the ranger,, we dont usually burn split fire wood unless we process it quite small in the ranger. The splitter shown in the start of the video is quite handy.
