    That’s a cool idea, but why not just use the weight hanger on the downrigger shaft?

      Its a bit quicker and less stress on the shaft, we use 15 lb weights

    Great job on the entire boat but especially great job on the wiring! I keep doing repairs on wiring where people use connections like wire nuts etc. that are just terrible. Soldering and heat shrink is always the best option.

    Why put so much fuel on the stove ? And I would never balance a fire of any kind on a rock the way you there if that falls you’re in trouble,it’s a wood burning stove not a fire pit.

      It's also handy if another boater runs out of gas. You can pass the can over instead of towing them back to the launch they used.

      Check around locally, we have a dump by us that accepts natural materials and will let you take it for free. The smaller sizes are better if you are restricted on your wood supply. They also have some that can burn wood pellets you can buy at your local hardwear store.

    what boots do you use with this ski?

    • @nanookoutdoors5171
      @nanookoutdoors5171 Před 7 měsíci

      For snow conditions as shown, I favor my Salomon Toundra boots, that use aerogel insulation. The nice part about the universal bindings is that you can use any boot, and adjust which boots you use based on conditions!

    How do you turn in them going down hill? Is it like a cross country ski turn? Looks like it would be hard to get an edge since the binding moves.

    • @nanookoutdoors5171
      @nanookoutdoors5171 Před 8 měsíci

      I haven't tried any high speed downhill turns with them. They do have a gliding acting, but I havent tried to really get them to bite in for a turn, just slow and steady turns. But I'm mostly on powder/ non groomed trails. I mostly use them as an alternate to snowshoes on trails as you can cover more distance faster. I'm sure there are others out there that have more experience with faster speed.

    What did you do to fill in all of the holes in the gunwhales and everywhere else? Did you braze and grind them and then paint over it, or did you simply leave them as is and paint? I have a very similar boat, but it is a dual console / open deck style instead of center console, and it needs the same type of work as you did, so this is very interesting and inspiring to me.

    • @nanookoutdoors5171
      @nanookoutdoors5171 Před 8 měsíci

      For the holes in the gunwales we taped off the bottom side, then used two part epoxy, I believe it was PC7 to fill the holes, then we sanded off the top side, and later we painted it. It's a lot of work, but well worth it! Have fun with your restore!

    I am interested in black for the sake of more effective warming if people nearby. However, I wonder if it may lead to more smoke. This might be a good experiment! Note that the black surface is actually COLDER than the unpainted stainless, even though it measures hotter by IR thermometer, because it is emitting more, ie losing more heat to the environment by radiation. This in turn means that the secondary air behind the black wall isn’t getting as hot. The preheating of that secondary air is intended to complete combustion of materials that would otherwise be smoke. Also I can see the higher flames on the black side - that may indicate more smoke. Maybe repeat under daylight and just make visual observations?

    My baby girl does actually quite like certain fruits and veg when offered…. However I don’t think anyone should feed a canine a vegan diet…. To me, it is purely abuse for the selfish reasons of the owner… if they truly cared for their canine companion - they wouldn’t expect them to be vegan like they are. It isn’t actually good for the majority of humans - that means it sure isn’t going to be good for your canine family members….
