Baseball has long been a game of tradition and unwritten rules that players are afraid to break. That was until this new generation stepped up to the plate and began to change the way players approach the sport. One young superstar is helping lead this charge.
Miami Marlins All-Star Jazz Chisholm sat down with Ryan, Channing and Fred to talk about his baseball career so far and discuss what makes him so special. The MLB The Show 23 cover athlete has brought flair and fandom to Florida baseball, and he goes in-depth on what has led him to his current success.
Becoming the 7th Bahama-born player in Major League Baseball, Jazz had a long road to the majors. He has always been the youngest player on every team he plays on, and his move to Wichita, Kansas made him as isolated as ever. He was a high school senior at 16 years old and gave The Pivot guys an idea of what type of change it was for a young Jazz.
After his minor league move from the Arizona to Miami system, Jazz revealed how difficult his 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons were for him once he reached the MLB. From his habits to his fashion he butted heads with veteran players, and when his old idol Kobe Bryant passed away, he relied on part-owner Derek Jeter for some moral support.
With the new era of the Miami Marlins here, Jazz has a newfound love for the sport on and off the field. The clubhouse is packed with familiar faces and a positive energy, and for the first time he is arriving to Spring Training early and staying late. The music and anime lover may still have his downtime, but the team’s camaraderie has broken his independence. As his grandmother is still a Bahama softball legend and a family of 20 comes to many of his games, Jazz is loosening up on the diamond.
The Jordan Brand athlete knows a thing or two about how to look the part, but the ice-cold chains and stylish kicks are being worn by one of the hottest players in the game today. When the Marlins needed a leader, they looked to the Bahamian, and Miami will be glad with the MVP-caliber player they chose to rally behind.

I'm a Black man and Marlin Fan. I go to the games, but I can't get any Black people to go with me. It's few Blacks in the ballpark. Everyone should go and support Jazz and the Marlins. Jazz is my favorite player. Great interview, go Marlins!
You know you right! I’ve never been to the new Marlins stadium since they move from Hardrock but I will do.
Chris rock /the comedian Chris rock, spoke on this issue a few years ago. I think you’re right and this topic should definitely be looked into.
Where the Cubans at. It's their sport.
@@coreyeatmon5101dominicans
i been a marlin friend since the old big 3 days or Gioncarlo, JT and Justin Boar. I live in Ohio n took a trip to miami and seen the marlins for the first time in person. The love down there is crazy ngl. I need too go to more games
I don’t follow baseball at all. I ‘ve never even heard of this young man before this episode. I can honestly say that I’m so proud of him and that I’m his biggest fan now.
He’s a mid baseball player and that’s being generous.
How you his BIGGEST fan when you just became a fan? Lol
HOF meatriding
@@LamppostoutI mean being a all star can’t be mid
@@johnhardy7764 Look at his stats. Can’t stay healthy. His best OPS+ season was in 2022 he only played 60 games so. Other than that his second highest OPS+ was 103 in 2023 which is barely above average. He only played 97 games. He’s mid.
The Pivot Podcast hit yet another home run with this episode. Thank you again for shining a light on another gem that many knew nothing about.
That no one should care about. 🙄
Love this guy now, thanks for letting Jazz tell his story. Did not know him til your podcast. Keep Striving Jazz! We are proud of you. ❤
Baseball “tradition” is some of the biggest crock of bullshtt out there. Many players are starting to understand that and lighten up and just genuinely be themselves. This man knows who he is and knows what he can bring to the game. I hope his confidence stays strong and I hope he continues to not take any shit from anyone in that league.
This interview is GREAT for baseball! All the older people & older generations of fans of baseball are gonna HATE everything he’s saying lol but these conversations need to happen. Older fans of baseball wanna keep the game the way they know it and love it, but it was boring then & it’s boring now. In order for the game to grow and become more appealing and fun to the youth, you have to bring in players like Jazz and other young players with flare, attitude, & style to the game! Bottom line this isn’t the same baseball from years past, that your Grandpa & great Grandpa loved. That ship has sailed! Forget all your old unspoken rules. Batflips after homers are GOOD for the game, pitchers celebrating after strikeouts are GOOD for the game! Get over it & get on this train of the new generation that’s actually exciting to watch. They play with emotion and excitement and don’t operate like robots! I’m here for it & Jazz is a star!
I'm a 51 year old black man who loves baseball and it wasn't boring in the 1970s or the 1980s or the 1990s it wasn't until the year 2000 it seemed less black people were playing... Not sure why... Baseball is a great game always has been
Not all older baseball fans are that way. I happen to love seeing the game change. I love seeing ball players have fun. Who wouldn't want to be able to get paid to have fun.
It’s amazing how he managed to play at a high level without his team’s support.
My son is young ball player and I can’t wait for him to watch this episode.
Yo this is eye opening, I didn’t know this about Jazz first 3 years. Love what he’s doing for baseball.
I have unfortunately been a Marlins Fan my entire life. You have been my favorite player since Day 1 because of the way you play the game with so much fun and passion. We have been truly missing that ever since Jose Fernandez died. I knew stuff went down because of Miguel Rojas, but didn't realize it got that bad. I am so sorry you had to play through that living hell for 3 years. I am so glad that worthless "Captain" got shipped out. Should have known he was loser after he blocked every single person on social media that didn't take his side. Keep doing your thang man and here's to you staying healthy this year! 30/30 season mark it down!
Jazz Chisholm is hands down the most popular player on the Marlins and I wish they wasn't such a trash organization. He's one of the great young players in the game and wish him nothing but the best this season. Another great interview fellas 👏🏾
this year will put them on the map
They gotta get an owner that will spend. Even if they get up to $150 Million, they’d be scary
Thank God a baseball player interview
A couple years ago they interviewed Ken Griffey Jr and it was honestly one of my favorite episodes
Bro! Jazz, Nick Gordon, Tim Anderson, Duane Meyers, Xavier Edwards, Josh Bell too!? Marlins got bruthas on this team!!!! Lets go!!!!
I think Jazz beef is with Miggy Rojas. Said 2023 was the first time he talked to the team Miggy left 2023. Respect to Jazz for putting up with the bullshit and not making it effect him on the field.
I think you’re right. It does sound like he’s talking about him too in this interview.
Jesus Aguilar also left the team in 2022, he also said: "You don't even play my position, your friend play my position.". Aguilar was friends with miggy and miggy and jazz play the same position.
I remember the first interviews of Aguilar when he came to the Marlins and he seemed very old school in his clubhouse mentality.
Definitely Miggy and Jesus and its possible the kid he was talking about who did the Soto shuffle is Nick Fortes
I bet miggy rojas doesnt say shit to any of the players on the dodgers 🤣🤣🤣, hes legit the worst player on that team
Jazz is a firecracker, and I understand him. When he becomes older and wiser he will learn to embrace the journey.
For sure. They gave him great advice on embracing his time in Kansas because it’s part of him. Hope he heard them.
maybe Wichita but not for 3 yrs lmao
My sentiments exactly
Excellent interview listen too this as I was editing some portrait photos an I'm glad I did!!!! 🇧🇸 242 🇧🇸 💪🏾
Kid is confident and aware. Marlins are legit. I coached one of their
best lefty relievers since he was 5. Pivot keeps going deep.
all yall saying jazz is mid or overrated simply do not know ball. he's a rare combination of speed, raw power and defensive versatility.
not many other guys in the league right now that are legit perennial 25 homer/25 stolen base threats, while also being athletic enough to competently play both the middle infield and the outfield. it's basically just jazz, mookie, tatis, trea turner, ketel marte, and royce lewis - 6 guys total in the whole league, and they're all studs
he's special, he just has to stay healthy for a full season
Absolutely
Facts he's special he just cant stay healthy so nobody gets to see it for a long period of time
A Bahamian and PROUD
Jazz is LIT!🔥 ⚾️💯! I’m a Yankees Fan and I wish He played for Us.. He brings not only Talent to the Game but a New perspective to it. Keep Ballin Kid🫡
This is why I always watch, the Pivot. I don’t know this young man. But I’ve learned a lot from his story.
I love how jazz giving us the inside scoop in a baseball clubhouse cause you never get to hear this stuff
Great authentic display from Jazz. Super talent, top athlete, good man. 242 to da Werlllll 🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸
Thanks for having this much needed conversation!!! People need to hear and be aware of what’s really going on!
He is telling the truth about Wichita Kansas high school sports! I was born & raise in Wichita Kansas & the city is known for basketball more than any sport!
Love this episode, loved the TA (Tim Anderson) episode. Can we please have more baseball players on? A lot of these guys have amazing stories that people would love to hear and can learn from.
Love what y’all are doing! 🫡
The Bahamas is proud of you Jazz stay authentic
Great interview. Love Jazz's heart and energy. Hope he has an amazing year.
We need this for baseball... and most importantly Jazz game speaking for him.. he backing all of this up with his leadership
Leadership as in not talking to any teammates?? Haha
This was an amazing interview! Loved the confidence, the storytelling, the lessons, such a great episode!
As a former black baseball player Jazz is the epitome of what we ALL GO THROUGH IN BASEBALL. It’s ridiculously political.
Seems like there’s alot of racism in baseball
Jimmy Rollins said he didn’t get it as bad but he said he’d get thrown at in his rookie year. He’s white but I know Bryce Harper said he went through that too. The whole ‘unwritten’ rules stuff really held the game back.
I played 7 years of pro ball and have been a scout for 8 years as a black man. This isn’t true. Jazz is a me guy. He’s an exceptional talent but is all about himself. Trust me
@@jdub2199 I was just going off how veteran players treat flashy rookies.
I think (hope) age & life experiences, he will grow out of that type of thinking?
I wish Jazz the best, just not against my team (Phillies) 😂
What are your thoughts on ways to get more black youth into baseball? I know in Philly it’s good, but definitely could be better. Do you think it’s because of MLBs priority of international players? I think sports media is too scared to bring this topic up.
@@lovesgucci1 it’s discussed quite often. It’s growing. Slowly, but growing. Kindu Jones with MLB has done an exceptional job with the Hank aaron, RBI, urban youth academy’s etc. headed in the right direction
Enjoyed the interview. Didn't know this gentleman until now. Proud of him for overcoming those obstacles. He's gonna be disliked even the more by some baseball folks because they're going to consider him a snitch for telling his truth. Powerful.
By far the best interview i’ve seen in a while!
Loved this interview, I hope he can stay healthy and the Marlins can turn it around
It's really crazy and sad to hear how vets really treated the rookies. I feel like that comes in all aspects of life too. Young men like myself coming up and perfecting the craft that we are creating for ourselves really being hated on by the older generation and tbh its from them not rocking with our flow and how we really do this sh** fr. Ima be me at the end of the day and it comes down to who gone stop cause I know god got me. Jazz one of them ones for real and being the same age and seeing how he rocking really puts us on fr
Since the pandemic started I’ve listened to multiple podcasts over the years. 4yrs later, even tho they’ve only been around for two, this is the one they stayed.
Jazz makes me proud to be a Marlins fan, go crazy Jazz!
Once again The fellas does not disappoint another 🔥🔥🔥 episode. Jazz you have a new fan with me 💪🏾
A great guest and great podcast as usual 🔥
i bet you i couldn't name 5 MLB players. Jazz Chisholm now has my attention. And it is because of the Pivot Podcast!!! LETS GO!!!!
It’s amazing to listen to this young man speak on restructuring to win! Nursing units in hospitals needs this same type of restructuring because young nurses come in ready to save lives & be the next Florence Nightingale but the crabby ol’ negative nurses train the young nurses to be bitter, do minimal work, violate patient rights & make statements like “that’s above my pay grade”, & then say to me “you doing to much “, this is baseball nothing life threatening yet if hospitals actually incorporated his positivity& restructuring it would save millions of lives!
Great show... yall be dropping gems to the young athletes 🔥🔥🔥
Bahamas baby where the money different colors like cray paper.. he's from that place, he get that cake try to touch that and any day can turn into a boxing day 242 baby 🇧🇸 🇧🇸 🇧🇸 Jazz keep doing your thing bro! Awesome episode Pivot crew.. Signed a fellow Bahamian
One of the best for the year. Appreciate young boil’s sincerity and child-like desire to live and let live.
Respect this man for being himself!🙏🏽
Great pod!! Love to see baseball be the topic!! Nobody better to represent today’s culture for our people than Jazz.
Another great show fellas! Thanx for introducing me to Jazz!💛🖤
Excellent conversations guys Jazz keep going never allow others peoples insecurities to affect you keep going Champ 💪🏾 keep going
Thank you for this interview 🫶🏾
Great interview. I’ve always been a Jazz fan, but didn’t know much about his early years. Also, interesting to hear about his first three years in MLB.
I don’t watch baseball like that since my A’s glory days with Ricky Henderson and all the greats back then. Yo! I’m a fan of this kid. Continued blessings with him. Thank y’all. 👏🏾 keep pivoting. 👊🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
As an Astros fan.
He welcome out here in Houston! Even in our centerfield!
Have heard of him but great interview and blessings to him. ❤❤❤
As a Bahamian, this is dope asf to see
Great interview Fellas. Glad Jazz got to share his story and proudly rep the 242 🇧🇸. Crazy how he was about to meet with Kobe before his passing...
2024 is gonna be movie, Go Marlins!!
Miguel Rojas got his ego ballooned in Miami, way overrated player, average at best with good defense, walked around like he was Jeter, bench player in any other team.
This is one of the best interviews the pivot has done. I didn't know much about Jazz. His journey through MLB is very interesting.
Marlins are lucky to have Jazz. Shout out to Skip for having his back.
Jazz is the realest ! I love that he was honest and it didn’t seem y’all cut out any of the controversial statements. I love that he told us what he went through in that Marlins club house, the Jordan autograph denial , and current Marlins team. I will actually start following the Marlins and even go to a few games this season! Great job Pivot ! Another phenomenal interview!
Mad respect for even more now! I'm more excited than ever! For the 2024 season LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This prolly my favorite one this year🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Rooting for Jazz this season
Team Culture is so important. When players become jealous of one another it's never good
As a diehard Braves fan it hurts how much I liked Jazz before this…..but the pivot again kills it and now I’m a diehard Jazz fan! Hope he kills it all his career especially in his losses to the braves! That’s called a pivot I think
Jazz just got a fan out of me from this interview, now I want him to be an Atlanta Brave. Acuna & him would be amazing on 1 team
no
Hell no he sucks lol
@@justin6681 40/40 incoming
Negative. Michael Harris is better than him.
@@zachcoggins9018 Harris is 1000 times better lol
Being a pirates fan hearing that story about starling marte warms my heart. Miss him
Man I knew jazz was gonna be nice cuz I wasn’t a baseball fan till 2020 I played MLB the show 21 and I got drafted by the marlins and I seen him on that game and me and him was a tandom I knew at that moment oh dude is a beast I know it’s a game and I made sure if he wasn’t hurt on the game I wouldn’t play unless he was healthy… but I’m happy he didn’t let the them old baseball rules and ways change him he’s stay true to himself that’s what baseball is missing. Thats why I got mad that tatis jr stopped doing his thing being flashy it brought happiness to the sport excitement… man I’m glad jazz isn’t gonna let them change him
Them days should never be over Jackie put his life on the line for us to play the game and we should embrace that and play the game for him!!!
Baseball szn around the corner LFG!!!!!
Thanks @pivot. I love baseball
Man, I feel like I can relate to jazz. I’ve always had encounters with older people than myself cause I do things differently at work but the job gets done. And I’m not one to take shit lightly. The fact he didn’t practice, had relationships with the team and STILL made all star speaks volumes. He makes the game FUN! Jazz, you got a fan here. Keep balling in them suckas! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Can’t wait to sit wit the OGs and tell my story one day! Keep inspiring us. Keep the energy right and the legacies standing. Salute.
Great for baseball. Love seeing baseball interviews, especially brothers.
Great interview he really gave it up about the clubhouse. Not a baseball fan but I will start supporting this young man and his team.
Haters gone hate young man...as that Vet told you "F*#$ them!"...continued success without injury ❤❤
Jazz: Nobody said I was the team captain but i was the team captain
Also Jazz: The team captain shouldve woke me up
I really fuljoyed this one. Keep pushing young king👊🏾🇦🇬🇺🇸
Glad to get more insight into Jazz. Love that he plays his way and that the team has surrounded him with players that will help bring the best out of him. Sucks to hear that Donny baseball didn't facilitate the best environment while he was the Manager.
242 on the Pivot- Today is a good day!
He’s a great storyteller 😊this interview is interesting. Proud of him
I would love to hear his Bahamian accent… a few of my friends are from there and I love it.
It’s a reason why they shipped out Miguel Rojas
White boy old school former athlete 🏈🏀⚾️.
My favorite podcast. You guys are so cool. I really enjoyed this interview. Everyone has a different story and this just like all of your personal stories inspires me to keep pushing with my future endeavors as a professional photographer and musician. Thank you 🙏 🙌💯👍
Cornerback, safety, shortstop. lol
I enjoyed receivers coming over the middle and cleaning clocks, especially when they were talking sht lol
Jazz is the epitome of what a lot of players have gone through in the league. He is just direct, and a lot of players, especially old school players, and coaches don't want to hear it. I believe that he stayed focused and remained an all-star during his toughest three years. That's a professional. Period. What a great interview.
🔥🔥
Honestly, lol, this dude seems like HE was the problem.. Just ONE example, when he was talking about shoes on the plane... I LOVE how Freddy T aske "was that a rule?" and then basically, buddy says he was breaking the rule. If all of these situations was like this and him not doing things the right way and people calling him out on it was the root to all the negativity that comes his way, then it is what it is.
Jazz doesn’t want to be liked he wants to be respected🔥
Send'n Terrific Tuesday Vibes Y'all Way🖤🖤🖤🖤
{Pivot, Pivoters & Jazz Chisholm}
WE GOT BRUTHAS ON THE MARLINS!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
I have a new respect for Jazz now because he is a one piece fan!
I’m a die hard Nats fan, and the NLE is crazy good with talent, and Jazz has left his imprint since Day 1. Always be a fan of the kid.
Yall got The Best podcast Brothers keep it up......
So excited for this season. Let’s Go Marlins!
He definitely grew up playing baseball in the hood when he spoke about the team mentality of being hit by a pitch "Just don't hit me in my face" & "My big dog behind me ready to whack something" because why fight & get kicked out and got nothing to show 4 it besides pain? instead make sure they lose because they gone drive me in
Great interview
I hope he has a great season, and a healthy one. it’s so deserved. He’s an awesome dude
Wow, this a bad look for Miguel Rojas! He was the unofficial captain from 2020 on…
Braves fan here. You gained another fan. Wishing you the best young man.
Love Jazz! One of the most electric players out there.
Love it..... He's great at his job. And teammates hate him for no reason.
I don't watch baseball too much and I didn't know Florida Marlins are now the Miami Marlins I will definitely be paying attention this season
Amazing story! Keep it up fellas
My favorite ball player is Tim Anderson, I didn’t know who this kid Jazz was until this year. He seems a bit entitled like the younger generation, maybe it’s just this interview, but I need to see more of him some things he said came of whiny. Please share anymore interviews he’s done so I can get a better read on him I want to like him. Cause we share similar interest in Anime.
