(If anything, it feels like that's just added an extra layer of misery and frustration onto Sam's shoulders. If he wasn't constantly waiting for things to get better, he wouldn't have to constantly acknowledge that they _haven't_ yet.)

at first i was kinda like oh it's random that the video starts off with darlin' just waiting around for sam, and why is he so upset about it? BUT THEN
I WAS HIT WITH THE REALIZATION MOMENT
darlin's waiting for sam, not just literally at his door, but also figuratively for him to be ready to move forward with their relationship. they're not calling him, or pushing him to move forward, but just letting it be and letting sam come around at his own pace.
so why is sam so upset?
because he's slowly realising that he's driving around and "not driving anywhere in particular, just driving". he's realising that he's not doing anything by letting the relationship sit, that it's going nowhere "in particular". he's frustrated with himself for dragging all this time out. hence the keys to the house, both so darlin' can stop figuratively and literally waiting for sam to enter his home (aka his heart).
and he touches upon it later in his Big Speech, but it's just... genius. like this is why i'm spoiled for any other VA channel, because nobody does it the way erik does. it's fantabulous and i'm always blown away by it.

It’s been a very slow burn but I am so glad to have been on the journey. I’ve needed new Sam content since the inversion so badly.

As someone with some deep trust issues, imagining someone having so much patience to climb those walls around my heart and respect for me and my time feels so unreal but still gives me hope for a future (healthy) relationship. All romance aside though, this was very emotional, Erik, and a very impressive acting.

I think Sam is the best comfort character I could ask for, he takes on everything that faces him head first and has Such a strong will and drive. But his best feature that Erik shows so well is that Sam is still just a person and he crumbles when things get hard.

Sam was my introduction to this channel and probably one of my favorite characters to but oh my god listen to his mental health struggles and struggles about being an anchor for everyone just hurt especially when he starts to talk about his spiraling thoughts just got me. I struggle with spiraling thoughts a lot and Im also the therapist in my group of friends and listening to Sam express his feelings spiraling thoughts and being an anchor for other people had me on the verge of tears. This storyline means the world to me. I see myself in both Sam and Darlin'. And to hear them take this next step together just pulls at my heart and feelings in the best way possible. 💛

This one was a definite worth the wait. I love stories where two very guarded people bring out the best in one another but the way you wrote Sam and Darlin's story, every moment that lead to this point was a pure masterpiece the reassurance, the gentle but forward approuch, the lighthearted moments and genuine love and affection these two share for one another is so amazing written that I got chills. This was just a whirlwind of emotions and how he talks about the other characters makes the redactedverse so immersive and you get bonus points for the cowboy joke, the first "I love you", the spare key milestone and Darlin calling Sam mate which Asher said is not a word to be taken lightly.
