Potter watching his team play:
I have seen a clip from the match which explains Real Madrid in the perfect way. At 2-0 down at Anfield, Benzema and Vinicius Jr was seen calming down their teammates. Basically did the "calma calma" which Ronaldo did when he scored against Barcelona at the Camp Nou some years ago. Real Madrid players, club, staff and coaches have this mentality like no other. With all the preassure against them, they calm it down and ALWAYS come back. The history proves it, the trophies proves it, last season proved it, and yesterday against Liverpool proved it. There is something special about this club, and I will forever be greatful for my team being so good under preassure. I love Real Madrid and the Champions League is my favourite competition. Yes, the World Cup is obviously incredible, but there is something extra special with the Champions League. Real Madrid own this competition, and we own the english clubs. Never doubt us again, because if u do then good luck with getting it right.
James always doubts Ancelotti and calls him overrated. Ancelotti stay winning. Could easily see Madrid winning it again
English bias was shining through in the goal reactions
He is English mate
Imagine the inverse scenario in which Real go 2-0 up early. Is there any way this Liverpool team pull it back to 2-2 by half time and go on to win? Absolutely no way.
vini suffered bullying since the fisrt time he came to madrid even when we were proving him with castilla, so the club implanted in his mind the ethic of work for a player looked down and this gave us a hard working super talent with Modric's mindset. Sometimes it's not his day and since he is young he can crumble to that awful preassure (racism included) they try to aply to him but, time is in his favor because he will grow stronger and better
The fall from grace of this Liverpool team, in such a small space of time, is honestly unreal.
Credit to Madrid though, they are NEVER out of a match.
They have been very stingy in the transfer market. They would always be
outclassed by teams with superior midfielders.
They've also become very unlikeable. Klopp for the first few years seemed like a nice, quirky, goofy guy you could get behind & support as a neutral.. but now his constant whinging, insanity on the touchline & disrespect for other teams causes anyone playing Liverpool to hold a grudge & hate them forever. Klopp can't accept losing & has become extremely toxic as a result.
@@jamesmccarthy6764 klopp hasnt changed at all its just alot harder to like someone when theyve won everything there is to win in england than when theyre just an underdog managing a shit team

Favorite quote "they do bend Real Madrid, but they don't break" and as a Liverpool fan those are heart breaking words to hear and they ring so true after that match💔
Real Madrid totally own Liverpool recently it reminds me of constantly being smashed by Barca as a united fan in late 00’s 😅
Someone needs to do a video on Joe Gomez, 8th time this season where we've conceded 3 or more and I'm fairly certain he has been a key reason for a majority of the goals.
we'll trade you eric dier
you're looking for a culprit, the 1st goal was somewhat a collective mistake, Trent should have pressed Vini, 2nd goal is purely Alisson's fault, 3rd goal- Vini won a 50-50 foul off Gomez, Liverpool zonal marked but no one picking up the runners, 4th goal was a scrappy deflection of Gomez; could've really happened to anyone, really unlucky, 5th goal Fabinho fumbles the ball when half his team is on the edge of Madrids box and Van dijk doesn't press Vini. Madrid scored 5 off an xG of 1.6. Don't blame anyone, you lost to a much better team, last night wasn't the first time Liverpool failed to control a game and paid the price. REST
@@bzoa430 Joe Gomez is tragic though. Not picking him out for this game but just in general.
@@noahpeterson4144he makes a lot of mistakes but if he was switched for a slighlty more consistent defender you guys would still have lost all of these games, and that is the point
Gomez has never been good enough. Need him moved on in summer along with the likes of nat Phillips and Rhys Williams and a couple cb’s brought in
That fifth goal, and maybe the fourth as well, shows that Liverpool’s legs have gone, they can’t press for 90 minutes, and a great team just picked them off for fun. We shouldn’t be surprised, we will see this happen a few more times again this season when Liverpool play against good attacking teams
Thing is Real then took their foot of the pedal and just controlled the game if not it could’ve looked even worse
Real Madrids midfield is honestly just something else
Yes.. this is what happens when you have owners willing to spend and invest...
That too without Kroos and Tchoumeni
Madrid spent less than the Manchesters in the last 5 years.
RM’s net spend over the last 10 seasons is actually lower than most they come in at 36th, with ManU, City, Chelsea, PSG and Barca in top 5
@@toknnomad1424 Real Madrid barely spent any money at all last few seasons lol
As a liverpool fan, this was a tough game to watch. The first 25 mins we looked our old selves again. Nunez goal was class, we were pressing them off the pitch, honestly all over them. Second goal a bit of a gift. Then vinicius scored a screamer. Suddenly it felt like everything changed. Alisson gifted them a goal and they just kicked on. Second half they were better than us, though we didn't give up. Overall not a horrendous performance from us like against Brighton or wolves but a game in which we were very mixed, and Madrid made the most of their chances. I hope we can play like we did today going forward in the league, and top 4 is still on. Ynwa
Absolutely spot on
Personally thought Klopp tried to bring back that lethal press again but we just haven't got the same stamina anymore
Can’t forget how Alisson wasn’t the only keeper that gifted a goal
You played 15 min of good football. Not 25 min. Liverpool fan's think Liverpool is on the lvl of Madrid the team with more cl wins then all of England put together. Last 10 games against Madrid has given Liverpool 9 loses 1 draw 0 wins. Its time for loserpool fan's to show some respect to the best football team in history
@@dalic24 this right here, is why I hate real Madrid fans. We were better than you until you scored. That's about half an hour, not 15 minutes. Look, we get it, your team is more successful than ours, your fans never shut up about it. The most arrogant fans in the world of sport, its just irritating
I knew a 2 goal lead against Real Madrid was not gonna be enough, and lo and behold they did it again. Another comeback match where they end up obliterating their opponent.
Honestly feel for Joe Gomez but I think that’s his Liverpool career done, he’s simply not good enough at the top level.
Joe gomez is an interesting player. He's had brilliant moments even in this game, but he's just not switched on enough. I think he still has a career ahead of him, just probably not at liverpool
I thought the same when militao started to play for real madrid and they got smashed in ucl by ajax and some others and it was so unbearable. But then he grew and had a great season with alaba, much better than he was with ramos and now he’s an absolute asset. Still has some holes in his game but who doesn’t.
@@bigted6351 I’d send him out on loan. Don’t think he’s been loaned since he joined at 18.
JLA giving Real Madrid appreciation : mission impossible
as a liverpool fan i’m heartbroken, was on cloud 9 at a loyle carner gig seeing the notification we were 2-0 up
Back in the day there were quite a few rumours about Sir Alex signing Benny McCarthy. Funny how he ended up at United in the end :)
Big benz and vini stat padding against the weaker teams
I think with hindsight, Firmino NEEDED to start this game. Once the momentum started to shift in Madrid's favor Gakpo ghosted a bit and didn't show for the ball and provide a passing option deep in midfield like Bobby would have, on top of his general experience and pressing ability. And also when you bring on Bobby and Jota together that means you're also taking off most of your pace up front to be able to stretch the game and create chances.
I would go as far as to suggest that Firmino was the most important player in that great Liverpool side, and he gets no credit. He linked the midfield and the attack and he worked hard
maybe if it was firmino of a few seasons ago i would agree, but he isn't match fit at the moment and he isn't the player that was so pivotal anymore unfortunately.
I agree. I don’t really understand why he takes off Gakpo and Nunez off together consistently now. Nunez has been class, but he takes him off always. Gakpo ghosted after the 2-2 I would say, keep Nunez, take off gakpo. Doesn’t have to be both….
@@jacobhuntLFC I take your point about match fitness but he was literally our top scorer until mo overtook him in the everton game and he's been injured since what, October/November? He was our best attacker by far up until he got injured.
@@librarygary1618 he did statpad against Bournemouth though. I'm not denying he was fantastic, but 'was' is the key word. Unfortunately he's past his best which will happen to all of them but that's the nature of football. one team can't be great forever, players get injured or things happen in their lives, or simply they get old.
Players' hit their primes at different times and some hit their peak faster than others etc. It's just at that point now where if we had owners who actually wanted to progress, we would have had plans in place for when the team that is successful peters out to be replaced efficiently.
We still haven't replaced Wijnaldum ffs, we didn't invest when we were at the top and now its going to hurt big time. Fabinho is a shell of himself/ Van dijk looks jaded/ Matip looks woeful lately/ Gomez is terrible/ Henderson shouldn't be a first team player anymore/ Keita's body has let him down and to be honest i don't think he is good enough anyway/ Thiago is a joy to watch but is also injury prone/ Why is chamberlain there at all/ Elliot is not a central midfield player at all.
Honestly i'm just fed up at this point, we used to be such a powerful team by bullying our opponents relentlessly with our athletic team, but a team that focuses on being athletic as their base strategy needs to have depth especially in the midfield area. We have a plethora of good forwards at the moment but no quality in the midfield to help supply them it all has to come from our full backs or moments between the forwards themselves.
Sorry for the long response, just my thoughts.
What I found interesting about the Allison pass that leads to the goal is at the time I though why don’t you okay it to Virgil the left but when rewatching it Virgil points and tells him to make that pass to the right horrendous mistake
Now that's a very interesting observation. I wonder if VVD thought it was the right pass in the moment, or he really just didn't want to be under pressure, a lack of confidence. Because its a shocking choice of pass
Take responsibility as a defender, boot it into the stands if you have to, going back to the keeper with a pacey forward up your arse is a cop out.
@@ethanderrick8486 Thank i think he wanted the ball to go long to salah or hendo but Allison miss kicked idk but Yh it does seem weird that Virgil didn’t want the ball usually he’s happy to be under pressure
How on Earth could anyone predict Liverpool to win this one or even do well. Been getting outclassed all season, also Klopp really needs a good plan B.

NUFC fan here, we said after Liverpool played us (even though they won) that if they defended like that against Real Madrid, they'd get shafted. And if anything, they defended worse. I said at the start of the season that Liverpool not buying a quality CM/DCM was a massive mistake with the age that was already in there.
Honestly think we played better yesterday than we did against u lot, real are just that lethal at capitalizing on mistakes
As a Liverpool fan this was really difficult to watch, a lot of the players just aren’t up to it anymore, and mediocrity can’t be accepted at a club like Liverpool, serious rebuild needs to happen and quickly. Got to admit though, and I hate to say it because they’ve been a thorn in our side, but this Real Madrid team is so special to watch, Vinicius and Valverde are just a joy to watch, Valverde is special, and then the mix of experienced quality in Modric, Benzema, etc, alongside young talent like Camavinga makes an almost perfect squad, they are completely unfazed by any situation.
Also, Klopp got it wrong with his subs in this match.
We played well when we were winning Trent was great offensively bajcetic was good for the most part Darwin was finding good positions and was lining up w salah
But when we were losing we don’t have mids that can progress the ball up the field hendo and fab can play long balls all they want but they don’t have the pace or technical abilities to progress the ball and they jsut leave it to our pace forwards
I don’t why we were so static for that third goal no one even looks like they want to challenge it
We had like 8 players in the box against 2 Madrid players and none of ours even got close, unforgivable
8 out of 11 players that started played 5 years ago...

I love how level headed you are James. I agree with everything you said the score was worse than the performance (although I only saw the first half) the second half must have been terrible.
i agree, James is cool
The second half really was terrible. It was way too easy for Real Madrid
The problem with the 3rd goal was it was a free kick and they defended it like one when the defensive set up should have been as if it were a corner.

Liverpool did grasp the midfield- ultimately it was a tale of 2 halves quite equal from each team overall but Liverpool being not clinical enough as well as shooting themselves in the foot. On another day this could have been 3-1 Liverpool easily but at the same time considering this season it’s understandable the dip in morale when the game is running away. Still there were chances and it was definitely a positive step
The third goal is a real stinker tho agreed

From a spaniard and Barça fan, you can never ever ever show weakness against Madrid. Once they seem dead you must keep on pushing till there is nothing but ashes. "If there is a hole, there is a goal". That's a Madrid saying.
*James I love the content, You remind me of E from the show entourage* 💯✔️😄
To be perfectly honest as a Liverpool fan, I'm not totally surprised. All season we have been leaking chances to every opposition whether that be from sloppy passes or decision making. Or simply down to how high our back line is and one ball up to a decent winger is ending for us. The difference in this game is the opponent is Real Madrid, not Everton or Newcastle. And as its Real Madrid the quality of the players are vastly superior hence we get absolutely punished for any slight or big error. Its disappointing obviously as we started well and got a bit of luck with Courtois mistake, but as soon as Vinicius scored the first one you could just see more coming. Never expected it to get that bad, but once that first one went in the confidence for madrid grew, they started finding their passes. Like you mentioned pinging the ball into Benzema or Modric for a quick 1-2, zipping right by our midfield. I don't remember fully but i can't recall a good chance for us after their 2/3rd goals went in, we reverted back to how we have been this season in the games were we well beaten by brighton and wolves etc... Its just so frustrating to see how far and quickly we have fallen off from where we have been.
Thanks James that scoreline looks better 😉
The last three games (even this one) and a smattering of others this season have shown there's still quality in this Liverpool side. They played Madrid off the pitch for 20 minutes - and it could easily have gone 3-1.
But overall they're physically and mentally done in. They need a complete refresh to replace players like Gomez, Fabinho, Ox and Keita with hungry, fired up new guys who want to win. Question is whether FSG will do what needs to be done.
Shame Nunez goal has been overshadowed by the result. Great team goal and finish.
you just feel the hate you have for real. it's so sad. let it go mate.
Real smashed a mid table Prem side with a terrible defense. Well done Real. "Golf clap"
I know Bajcetic has huge potential but he had a stinker today. Gave away ball in key areas that led to turnovers.
Gomez and Fabinho have to find the door, Trent can stay IF they bring in a CB that can basically do the work of 2, otherwise he has to return to his primary role as a midfielder, other than that its just options that are missing really, someone like Diaz or Mane, a maestro midfielder like Modric and some better defenders ( righthand side of that back 4 ).
A video on Gareth Ainsworth please Jimbo
15:40 you didn’t hear? Van Dijk’s aura is still injured
In the week Karius seems likely to start a final after his last memorable game being a final, Liverpool and Madrid played the Karius derby and obvs Karius' former team lost again
What people are overlooking is that in the entire time of Liverpool rising, maturing, competing and their downfall.
Real Madrid have been consistently winning!
Gomez involved with every goal conceded... again - how he still gets minutes is honestly baffling
If konate and matip are fit he doesn't that was the case earlier in the season but they both have been injury prone
@@MrKiingpin you’d think they were waiting for January
ALA MADRID. Un saludo dese Asturias
I hate to say it but we just got demotivated too easily and started to play more predictably. After Alisson's mistake he seemed to make the same predictable cross to Mo Salah which Fernandes was always ready to prevent and Joe Gomez's inability to cope with the overload often caused by Vinicius Junior to be frank means he probably should move on. Of course the biggest issue was the midfield, as much as I hate to say it, Fabinho, Hendo, and Bajcetic seemed unable to progress the ball as time went on with Camavinga, Valverde, and Modric just pressing and challenging more than they could handle.
We shouldn't take away anything from Real Madrid's amazing performance with work rate coordinated high pressing that allowed great counter-attacks but it was clear we didn't have the stamina or the coordination to respond to the counter-attacks and to further press their final-third.
5-2 Liverpool lmao… I wish

I think it's a bit unfair, that Joe Gomez gets so much hate. Especially considering how poor the players around him have been, VVD and Fabinho in this match. I think he could still be a solid backup RB option, he has been spectacular everytime he's played there, but it's clear he's just not quite good enough to be a CB for Liverpool.

Is Jo Gomez up to the job???
I've said it since watching his debut, JOE GOMEZ IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. He makes way too many basic mistakes and doesn't have the tactical or technical ability to make up for it. I think his reputation is a classic example of English bias and I honestly believe he is a mid-table player at best. Granted, he got unlucky in this game but I believe that we could get a player of the same or better quality for 60-80% of his value.
Real was never in any danger. When u play a team as poor as Liverpool there is alway going to be chances. Van dijk is just not the same player anymore and joe Gomez is a joke. I would only take Trent at right back for Real Madrid. Maybe salah but he is old and kind of wack aswell. Great video as always, keep it up👌👌

Too much European football. European Conference? So 7th or 8th best EPL clubs can go to European countries you never heard of to play in front of a Bournemouth-sized crowd?
Just tired of this two-leg knockout format. Should be reserved for the Semi-Finals only! Then we can have a decent Premier League with 22 teams and a 42 match season. Then season ticket holders get 21 home matches instead of nineteen. No overseas matches with a 5-2 deficit! Four more Premier League matches with no complaining from managers about the rigors of mid-week football in Europe! Less is more!

@@harryfield5207 Oh don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Liverpool can come back after that either! And yeah the defence will be disappointed and angry at themselves after tonight and will want to do better next leg, but I think mentally, being 3-1 feels like you have more of a chance than 5-2, not only because Liverpool are only “two goals” behind instead of 3 but it’s also the idea of “only” letting in 3 rather than 5. I feel Klopp may play on that to try to get his players to try for a result and having the correct mindset can be everything in these kind of games. I still think it’s too much for Liverpool though.
