Maybe worth remembering some of the rest when discussing his time as Ireland manager?

For anyone asked to select their all time greatest ROI XI and omit Stan, then imho they haven't a scooby doo. Stan is the ROI's greatest LB. A player who held the no 3 shirt week after week in one of the greatest Liverpool sides ever. Stan is the definition of an Irish sporting legend.

Sorry but no. He was a squad player for three years, averaging around 20 games per season. That includes a fair number of matches in central defence, midfield, etc, too, as Kenny went a bit mad with picking 6 defenders in starting XIs. He was one of four left-backs in the squad (with Burrows, Ablett and Nicol) and never nailed down a regular starting spot. We all missed him when he left, but we missed everyone who left as we got so much worse so quickly.

We all thought Stephen Staunton was the worst ever manager. Now he’s not even the worst Stephen to manage Ireland.

Stan's record in his 17 games was much much better than Michael O'Neill's was with Northern Ireland but the North kept with O'Neill and look at the success they've had since. Stan's lack of personality was his ultimate undoing.

      O Neill had experience
      SS didn’t..
      O Neill had won silverware
SS never did as a manager ..
      They had to get rid

The other lad has a fair point though. If you do take out all of Staunton's humiliating loses his record actually wasn't that bad tbf

Adrian commenting on who should be in an all time Ireland 11, seems a bit redundant when he Can't remember any of the games an incidents brought up in the Steve Staunton era.. that was less than 15 years, if he Can't remember stuff that happened such a short time ago how can he comment on an all time 11? or even an 11 from the premier league era?? Terrible knowledge from a so called "sports journalist"
