They r both sweet rides, but when i test drove the bimmer, i decided that was the one for me. Your right, AWD will always be better in snow or rainy conditions. I once witnessed a race sometime in the late 90's. It rained and the ones that were suddenly leading were 4 cyclinder Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD turbos. And this was against Porsche 930 & 944 turbos, BMW M5's, Corvettes, u name it.
Drifting is a motorsport, whether you like it or not. The s13 and s14 240sx were both shining examples of an affordable sports car. Their near 50/50 weight balance makes them extraordinarily well suited to 'motorsport', even by your anally retentive narrow definition. The Chevy Camaro has been an absolute icon in road racing with 8 trans-am series wins to it's name between 1968 and 1998. The new 2010 model is slated to compete in the grand-am GT series, and it's expected to do rather well.
The 135i does not have a lsd.. It's a "e-lsd" or "e-diff" that brakes the spinning tire and actually lowers the power output to the tires. I have one and it's shit! :D
Tiff is a lot better driver than any driver in top gear !He has more knowledge on cars and know what he is talking about. I'm not saying that this is a better show than top gear but what makes you see the show is who knows more about cars. In this case is Tiff.
You're right, Fifth Gear will never be Top Gear, but did you know Tiff was the original Top Gear presenter? Jeremy Clarkson came to TG after he did and worked hard to present like he does.
One other thing... the 135i really has a 404hp engine, detuned to 300. For around $2500 you can have your BMW dealer dial it up for you without affecting the factory warranty. Add a $700 4" down pipe, and your in the mid-11s through the quarter mile and the mid-to-high 3s to 60. Bottom line: DO NOT race a 135i, anything could be hiding under that hood.
One thing I don't like about fifth gear car comparisons is that there is a big difference in the driver's skills. In top gear for example the Stig does all the power lap times so the car is the only variable.
The 135i is one of the best coupe available on the market, especialy if you look at the price. And even better if you think about futur modifications...
I wouldn't say that Fifth Gear is a knock off of Top gear but I certainly do not enjoy it like I enjoy Top Gear. The 2 shows do have their differences. I have to say though Tiff is probably the best TV driver ever to grace the tracks and roads thats for damn sure.
I don't like 5th gear but I guarantee tiff could out drift/power slide you in a heart beat. He wasn't the best driver in the world but he did manage 3rd at the 24h of Lemans in 1990 and he raced formula 3 and 1.
Thing is, not all cheaper cars will win in every comparison. Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche or McLaren, even Bugatti are supercars for super-rich guys who don't really bother about the price. Those cars are not meant for everyone. So comparisons are normally carried out according to performances & powers of those cars, not really the price.
@Kage6100 NO bi-turbos are always working together, the twins not. twin turbos are two turbocompressors, one bigger and the other is smaller on the lower revs the smaller is pushin the air in the engine, and in higher revs the bigger. for further info visit wikipedia.
majority of the price difference is cuz of the countries import duties on cars.. most commonwealth countries have about 125 to 150% duty on imported cars whereas in the states the figure is close to 10%.. in the middle eastern countries the cars are even cheaper cuz there is NO tax on them and fuel is cheaper than water..
you are all right. Top Gear and Clarkson, way more funny, better Show. (the best motor Show in the world in my opinion) But Tiff is most probably the better driver. That Guy driving the BMW is really annoying, whoever said..."yeah, we need that guy for our Show" totally sux
@z8machine Nonsense, the 135i really has a 330HP engine detuned to 300HP. Only the M3 V8 has 404HP, the 135i uses the twin-turbo inline-6 of the 335i and 335is.
With a small blackbox you can increase your 135i / 335i to 351 hp without modding the ECU. Box was deleoped and made in Germany and installation is done within 15 mins. Interested ? Send me a private message.
Well, it's the cheapest line of RWD cars BMW makes, and a lot cheaper than the cayman, and it's a 4-seater. Considering that, the win is really impressive. On a dry track, the hp would have given it more of an edge as well..
yea , the elise is a better drivers car, but the Porsche is a car you can actually use day to day... sort of it comes with you know... radio ... and AC etc
@corvette53king Fifth Gear was first broadcast in 2002 as a continuation of the original incarnation of the BBC show Top Gear, which was cancelled in 2001 due to low ratings. Five originally wanted to carry on using the Top Gear name, but the BBC refused. Several of Top Gear's ex-presenters, including Quentin Willson, Tiff Needell, and Vicki Butler-Henderson were hired by Five to present Fifth Gear.
you can get a used Cayman S (in good condition) for the price of a new 135i. then you get basically the same 300 hp but in a much more focused, lighter, and better balanced chassis. definitely the better choice if craving backroads is your priority.
First, you can't drift a civic in any real sense; It's front wheel drive. Second, the drift test Is an excellent method of analyzing a high performance car's stability under extreme cornering and how predictably it swings from oversteer to understeer. Third, you can't mention the fit in the same sentence as the other two cars, it's an econo-box. Fourth, the 2010 camaro WAS tested on the Nürburgring. You should probably stop making comments like this; you just sound silly and ignorant.
Well you do have a point 'cause there's no way to know for sure who's in the costume but whoever it is he's a damn good driver. My point is that they always try to get the most out of any car. And I can't say that for fifth gear 'cause they have too many different drivers and it's unlikely that their driving skills are all the same.
i'd have the beemer, never been a fan of the cayman looks. and trust me, i've seen all the videos possible featuring it, great handling but could do with a bit more power....as well as a whole new exterior, then i'd be tempted.....if i had the money -.-
I feel like I'm watching William Shattner present a car This *sounds of car flooring it* is the *sound of tires squealing* brand *sound of cats* new *Door closing* BMW 1 *sound of turbos* Series Coupe *sound of man in agony screaming*
Are you sure? Thats pretty cheap! Here in Austria a Cayman S costs $ 130.000,- (€ 85.000,-). Well, at least I had to pay that much. Not to forget! It`s not fully optioned. With all options it`s about $ 150.000,-.
@ramG35 I agree that BMW's are cars for girls. But the Porsche is a car for real drivers. Just drive a Porsche through Germany, and you'll just know it is the ultimate drivers car. That's what it's designed for. Traveling across the German autobahn, with a Porsche and no speed limit. That is heaven on Earth !!! =P You won't care what people think of you anymore. Cause you are in it having all the fun. ;) Besides, any car lover would want a Porsche if they are honest.
@TheNicutube Actually, they do have the Stig, in a manner of speaking. Ben Collins, (AKA White-Blue Stig) has joined Fifth Fear as a presenter next season.
the cayman s sells for an MSRP of 60k. My dad's slate grey Cayman S was 72k OTD. a 135i on the other hand, has an MSRP of 35k. would you compare the two??
I guess Americans from now on should stop comparing the ZR1 against the likes of GTR R35, 911 GT2 or the 430 Scud since their bhp is far less than 638bhp. It should be compared against supercars that have almost similar power.
The problem with Porsche for me is the money for every car for the money i would buy something else.the Caymen is my favorite.but it ether needs more power or to cost less.
I don't agree with those judges scores, the Bimmer, in my personal opinion, had a better drift than the Cayman. They are both great cars, but the 135i is the better car.
for its price it should have already had an LSD, and im not too sure if the 135i has an LSD, because for about 15 years BMW has only been putting those in their M cars
BMW gives a 5.5 secs est for the 335i so obviously they will give a conservative est. to the 135i. 5.3 secs as mentioned in the video is .2 faster than the est for the 335i so that's about right. Where did they say they tested 0-60 themselves? I looked it up and the 5.3 second claim is sourced from BMW!
@corvettekingking: True that, but Top Gear is too much about overpriced Supercars, the only thing, that makes Top Gear interestingis the challenges... Fifth Gear at least bothers to show more "normal" cars sometimes
Not really. Fifth Gear has its strenght too. Needell is a better driver than JC, where JC used to invite TN for a test-drive in Top Gear few years back. I like the head-to-head race rather than setting fastest time at TG track coz only when cars race against each other you will see how they perform..
its pronounced as koopay !!! It has a small line on top of the e in coupe ( it is a french word and the small line stands for the "ay" in Koopay !!!! hope you got it !!!
The 135i has sold more than the 128, and its overwhelmingly driven by enthusiasts.
that last drift in the 135i was glorious... tiff didnt even get close to getting that Porsche as sideways as that
6 behave yourself that was rubish killed me 😂😂
the 135i motor into the 130 and that car is rocking all other !!!
They r both sweet rides, but when i test drove the bimmer, i decided that was the one for me. Your right, AWD will always be better in snow or rainy conditions. And this was against Porsche 930 & 944 turbos, BMW M5's, Corvettes, u name it.
hope tiff needel doesn't retire from the show.. his car reviews r the best.
Drifting is a motorsport, whether you like it or not. The s13 and s14 240sx were both shining examples of an affordable sports car. Their near 50/50 weight balance makes them extraordinarily well suited to 'motorsport', even by your anally retentive narrow definition.

"This funny looking thing" are probably the most kindest words ever to exit Tiff Needell's mouth.
5th Gear and Top Gear are both great.
dafuq the last 135i drift was sick :>
The 135i does not have a lsd.. It's a "e-lsd" or "e-diff" that brakes the spinning tire and actually lowers the power output to the tires. I have one and it's shit! :D
Tiff is a lot better driver than any driver in top gear !He has more knowledge on cars and know what he is talking about. I'm not saying that this is a better show than top gear but what makes you see the show is who knows more about cars.
In this case is Tiff.
No matter how small, light the 135i is, it's still in the class of an executive sports car. Unlike the Porsche which is an all out sports car.
the 135 should be the winner in the drifting competition, the last one was actually pretty good
You're right, Fifth Gear will never be Top Gear, but did you know Tiff was the original Top Gear presenter? Jeremy Clarkson came to TG after he did and worked hard to present like he does.
LOL thats some crazy alien noise!

Shud be a new show, where tiff, plato , hammond and clarkson make one team.. 2 racing drivers, 2 great host.. great combination it will be..
Nobody drives as good as Tiff does.
I'd have to go with the BMW. I like Porsche, but an inline-6 with turbos is just awesome.
I wouldn't say that Fifth Gear is a knock off of Top gear but I certainly do not enjoy it like I enjoy Top Gear. The 2 shows do have their differences. I have to say though Tiff is probably the best TV driver ever to grace the tracks and roads thats for damn sure.
You can easily pick up a 135i for about 10 grand that's a bargain for all that power
Ian Townsend yeah best car for 10k easy idk what else can beat it
i agree just driven a 135 cheap supercar but think its nearer 5 secs to 60 severly fast car great value
brian earl easily get it to the 4 second mark....for coupe
I don't like 5th gear but I guarantee tiff could out drift/power slide you in a heart beat. He wasn't the best driver in the world but he did manage 3rd at the 24h of Lemans in 1990 and he raced formula 3 and 1.
my god i'm in love with the 1. I wish my dad would get one, but he's really set on a 3.
Agreed, they should have compared it to the Z4 Coupe.
both of them are great drivers! better than clarkson and hammond!
@Kage6100 NO bi-turbos are always working together, the twins not.

Tiff RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He would have still kicked butt if he was driving the BMW.
you are all right.
Top Gear and Clarkson, way more funny, better Show. (the best motor Show in the world in my opinion)
But Tiff is most probably the better driver.
That Guy driving the BMW is really annoying, whoever said..."yeah, we need that guy for our Show" totally sux
Wha? That last drift in the beemer was way better!
@z8machine Nonsense, the 135i really has a 330HP engine detuned to 300HP. Only the M3 V8 has 404HP, the 135i uses the twin-turbo inline-6 of the 335i and 335is.
With a small blackbox you can increase your 135i / 335i to 351 hp without modding the ECU. Box was deleoped and made in Germany and installation is done within 15 mins. Interested ? Send me a private message.
lol. you're right...that IS after all what these cars are for when it comes right down to it. You've decided it for me bud. Porsche it is.
The price gap would've been too great if they had used the Cayman S.
@trumaki Yes, it's the non S version. There is also a Fifth Gear Test of the Cayman S on CZcams. And a test of Cayman S with PDK and a Manual.
A. the F1 driver in NASCAR is there because he couldn't get an F1 ride.
B. Its all dependent on the team.
Well, it's the cheapest line of RWD cars BMW makes, and a lot cheaper than the cayman, and it's a 4-seater. Considering that, the win is really impressive. On a dry track, the hp would have given it more of an edge as well..
The Beemer is the bang for buck car in AUS
Cayman S with Techart bodykit. Now THAT spells Sexy with a capital "S".
its not out yet... cant wait till it is!
thanks
yea , the elise is a better drivers car, but the Porsche is a car you can actually use day to day... sort of
it comes with you know... radio ... and AC
etc
a 135i hatchback is pointless, but here in the states, the coupe is delicious :)
@corvette53king Fifth Gear was first broadcast in 2002 as a continuation of the original incarnation of the BBC show Top Gear, which was cancelled in 2001 due to low ratings. the 1 series coupe looks great in person.
they can not use a cayman S because then the price gap would be large
I'm really sorry for you mate. Stupidness is something that is hard to get rid of.
you can get a used Cayman S (in good condition) for the price of a new 135i. then you get basically the same 300 hp but in a much more focused, lighter, and better balanced chassis. definitely the better choice if craving backroads is your priority.
The 135i out handles and out accelerates the STI.
Who the heck buys either a Porche or a BMW for fracking drifting?! Both of these come from companies with solid track racing history.
First, you can't drift a civic in any real sense; It's front wheel drive. Second, the drift test Is an excellent method of analyzing a high performance car's stability under extreme cornering and how predictably it swings from oversteer to understeer. The BMW had the best drifting I think on its last try; way better than the Porsche. I've got a 128i but don't know how to drift all too well. lol
eh i dont really like drifting but i wouldnt say its lame...it really tests the skill of drivers.
Weird that they compared the BMW to the Cayman and not the Cayman S. Much better match in terms of performance.
Well you do have a point 'cause there's no way to know for sure who's in the costume but whoever it is he's a damn good driver. My point is that they always try to get the most out of any car. LOL hahaha I love it how they argue
Nice to see my mom's 135 kick butt, hah.
oh my god i fucking love the 135i
i need this car!
i fucking need this car!!!
i'd have the beemer, never been a fan of the cayman looks. and trust me, i've seen all the videos possible featuring it, great handling but could do with a bit more power....as well as a whole new exterior, then i'd be tempted.....if i had the money -.-

BMW 1

The 135i does not look THAT bad, it's kinda cool
@kris1991
You can pay your BMW dealer to give your 135i 404hp without affecting the warranty.
Are you sure? Thats pretty cheap! Here in Austria a Cayman S costs $ 130.000,- (€ 85.000,-).
Well, at least I had to pay that much. Not to forget! It`s not fully optioned. With all options it`s about $ 150.000,-.
@xVEINYWEDGEx oh yes I have, theres also another guy that has an m3 with a masive supercharger in his and that thing is a freaking beast!
@ramG35
I agree that BMW's are cars for girls.

When your Tiff Needle any car drifts.
The face at 4:57 lmao
@ZCP1364 yea i get sick of top gear stunts, and challanges sometimes but i can't stop watching cause it's still has cars in it.
If only the BMW isnt ugly, I'd love this BMW.
Yes the Cayman S would of been more of a fight but that's 10 grand than the 1 series & that's before you put options on it
@TheNicutube
Actually, they do have the Stig, in a manner of speaking.
It's called rich parents. Have a look at a school parking lot in a rich area.
I guess Americans from now on should stop comparing the ZR1 against the likes of GTR R35, 911 GT2 or the 430 Scud since their bhp is far less than 638bhp. It should be compared against supercars that have almost similar power.
Only Americans will say their Mustang muscle car is the best car in the world, & that's what they've been saying about their ZR1.
The problem with Porsche for me is the money for every car for the money i would buy something else.the Caymen is my favorite.but it ether needs more power or to cost less.
i never see the 135i compared to anything i think is equivalent. is there actually anything in the same class?
@Cramos2174
The Cayman is a mid engine car. You're thinking of the Carrera or Turbo which are rear-engine cars.
I don't agree with those judges scores, the Bimmer, in my personal opinion, had a better drift than the Cayman. They are both great cars, but the 135i is the better car.
haha my friend has a 3 series and we just recently have been calling it that

Topgear kicks these guys ass
He has a TopGear accent! LOL
Cayman S hands down!
i agree
it isn't an option here in Canada. I'd buy it right away if it were.
x2......... I agree
i agreee
clarkson can only wish he has half of tiff;s skills
@RemyISnow
Some of the people on here used to work with top gear back in the 80s and late 90s, then they split, and Clarkson owned.
Do the math? The 135i 0-60 is 4.8 seconds. Check Road and track..
if Porsche put a LSD in the cayman it wouldve won
its pronounced as koopay !!! It has a small line on top of the e in coupe ( it is a french word and the small line stands for the "ay" in Koopay !!!! hope you got it !!!
