And, one can see it. But, it doesn't 'color' him, in any real way. It's just part of his technique as an actor. Or was.

    • @jonathandewberry289
      @jonathandewberry289 Před 3 lety

      @@waynej2608 I'm not convinced Gere is an especially good actor. He has handsome Gentile looks and mastered the 'handsome boy smile/grin' but is he really that good of an actor? solid enough, i might say that. good enough, I don't know if he's a 'Brando' or some sort of serious thing outside of a handsome leading man with a great smile?

    • @waynej2608
      @waynej2608 Před 3 lety +1

      @@jonathandewberry289 Early in his career, he may have been considered as such, with films like Officer and a, Gentleman and Pretty Woman. However, Gere never enjoyed this 'good looking, leading man in mainstream film' label and decided to take on more challenging work. Then again, early on, he showed early promise in Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Bloodbrothers, Days of Heaven and Somersby. He continued to take on more challenging, offbeat roles in films like Robert Altman's vastly underrated, Dr. T and the Women. I always thought he was a good actor, but the one that really clinched it, for me, was when he did, Hoax. His portrayal of author Clifford Irving was terrific. More impressive, disparate efforts were evident in films like Primal Fear, Internal Affairs, Brooklyn's Finest, Norman, I'm Not There, Time Out of Mind.
      He may not be Brando (who is?), but Gere has proven himself a versatile and consistantly impressive actor, thru the years. Certainly much more than an 'acting tic' or a handsome profile.
      Do yourself a favor and delve into some of the films I've mentioned. You'll see what I mean. Start with Hoax and Brooklyn's Finest. Amazing.
