A sing-song of an Abba tune ends in a pithy octave-off to see who has the better range. Copyright is all the BBC's and this is posted not for profit and as a tribute.
"When I sing an octave up, I sing it for Queen and Country. Although I admit singing an octave up with you would be a pleasure." I love this movie. It's like the film equivalent of having a laugh with your mad friends and all their crazy inside jokes.
This reminds me so much of the wierd relationship I used to have with an old friend. It was built entirely around singing, one-upmanship and correcting one-another.
I love how Coogan broke character when he went “oh fuck!” and then remembered he was supposed to be irritated and puts his hand back where he was before
I love how Rob stays on the low harmony note while Steve reaches for the high note, and then Rob immediately claims "I was up there, I was up there". Cheeky bugger!
every time they go into james bond impressions i cant stop laughing... its always a riff on the same line. "come, come mr. bond, don't you wanna sing an octave higher?" and that roger moore... SPOT ON.
This reminds me of the 2.5 hour journey to uni whenever I'd go with my brother. Bro being Steve, and me being Rob. He'd get so worked up about something he'd make it a competition, and when he got frustrated he'd just start doing impressions of male celebrities because I'm a girl and I proved no rival. That is until I mastered Kirstie Alsopp.
I have watched this movie so many times, when this scene comes up I feel like they do in the movie, cause they are still having fun but the fun times are almost over, back to the grind...
Sooo watchable.... Coogan is an effing legend. So glad he keeps it special by keep out the uk tv "comedy circuit". Am looking forward to seeing more of these. Thanks for posting.
It was still _nearly_ three octaves, though. He started on a low Bb, which is _very_ low. Then he went up to a G, and another G, and his last G was pushing up towards G#. So that's 2 7/8 octave, which is pretty damned good.
the point of it is that its two men messing about, rob clearly doesnt fully understand how the octive thing works and steve keeps trying to interrupt him to tell him hes doing it wrong.
As a musician I'd say they both have about 2 octaves. Their lowest notes were abit dodgy and unstable and their high notes are fairly outta tune . Rob sang some wrong notes in his 2nd octave but all in all they're not bad singers. I think you have to count your range as the notes you can hit easily and comfortable most of the time. Notes too low or high to hit in tune or which great difficulty dont really count so that said they both probably have the same range as me if not slightly better. P.S this show is funny as fuck
One does not wish to be pedantic however is it The Highway Agency that one makes a complaint to for poor driving? At 2' 43 Steve is , clearly, in the wrong lane as he is in the outside lane which is for ONE thing and ONE thing only i.e. Overtaking. He just took up residency there even though there was an adjacent space in the middle lane. Consequently not only was there a Guy immediately behind him wanting him to move over but the Guy in the middle lane, who was 30 yards behind, was now going faster than him and would soon be alongside him which would have left him stranded with nowhere to go if we had seen the next 10 seconds.
That might just be the best bit of the entire series. Very very witty. The Terry Wogan reference was splendid. But Rob did cheat on the first octave, sadly. Have to say he went down in my estimation there.
I love these two and the Trip is genuinely one of the best things I have seen on TV. But I cant stand Abba. Deary me the most bland over rated band / group of time.

Come, come Mr Bond, you derive just as much pleasure from CZcams as I do.
Come, come Mr. Bond, you derive just as much pleasure from singing an octave up as I do.
I fight for Queen and country
"It brings a shiver down my arm whenever I hear that bit"
"Thank you"
When I do an octave up, I do it for Queen and Country.
Love it!
Hahaha
"But I was a fool"
Whispers "A fool.."
This reminds me so much of the wierd relationship I used to have with an old friend. It was built entirely around singing, one-upmanship and correcting one-another.
If you’ve never watch the first trip, you should! They’re exactly how you and your friend was, but with impression instead :)
I love how Coogan broke character when he went “oh fuck!” and then remembered he was supposed to be irritated and puts his hand back where he was before
I love when mummy and daddy get along
When they got to "the winner takes it all" they sounded magnificent!
'FIve?! FIVE??!!'
'Alright, two.'
Extreme Karaoke, with Trevor Eve. Friday at 9 on BBC 1.
Haha
Thank God it’s on BBC One.
I love how Rob stays on the low harmony note while Steve reaches for the high note, and then Rob immediately claims "I was up there, I was up there". Cheeky bugger!
Love that last note that Steve does in winner takes it all... Gets me everytime xD and love Rob's highest note "nnndooooooooo" ;)
every time they go into james bond impressions i cant stop laughing... its always a riff on the same line. "come, come mr. bond, don't you wanna sing an octave higher?" and that roger moore... SPOT ON.
Alan Partridge appears near the top of the 3rd octave
love it at 3:40 when Coogan laughs...that's real that is!
p.s Thanks for postin'...best thing on telly all year.

Rob's a good singer, although I can't believe a Welshman doesn't know what an octave is.
Sooo watchable....
Coogan is an effing legend.
So glad he keeps it special by keep out the uk tv "comedy circuit".
Am looking forward to seeing more of these. Thanks for posting.
Brydon smashing that Bb1
"I have a wonderful range" = "I spread shit, but I spread it over a great distance".
I love how real this is
Though I admit, singing an octave up with you would be a pleasure. lololol
Fab... Laughed so hard I hurt my gut!
Fantastic!!!
Had to go listen to it after this clip.
I couldn't stop laughing the whole movie, especially when they try to outdo each other! They are so funny together! XD
God this is so good. I need a friend who will do this with me.
pure joy
2:54 - Steve was so curious to see if Rob could hit another octave higher😂
so so good
love it
A better rendition than anything from Mamma Mia!
These two are treasures! Hilarious 😂
same here. kind of reminds me of the good nature d idiocy of my youth
Imagine hitch hiking and these two stop for you ? You would'nt want to get out ! Though, bit too much middle lane driving.
Better than Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia any day!
The days when Steve was that bit more magnanimous 😊
By God I love this silly film.
Rob cheated on the first octave, Steve actually had a wider range, even though he didn't get the last note.
It was still _nearly_ three octaves, though. He started on a low Bb, which is _very_ low. Then he went up to a G, and another G, and his last G was pushing up towards G#. So that's 2 7/8 octave, which is pretty damned good.
Who fucking cares
@@joeberth-jones1910 I do. And when I care, I care for Steve and Robbie.
Jao Lin Come come Mr. Lin, you get just as much pleasure from knowing exactly how many octaves Rob can reach as I do.
@@mbwhly Why do octaves always rise, at daybreak?
Hurting me, hurting you… Aha!!!!
3:00 he looks like he's in pain. This is hillarious!
3:02 the face
Alan Partridge's best moment 3:34
Three!!!!!!!!!!!
Coogan sounded like Terry Wogan dying before he explodes like a balloon and whizzes around the room.
MIM Steve, MIM: Mirror, indicate, manoeuver.
this is classic. so funny
And then you see his ego shatter in real time.
n'dooooo!
@GrinahStones AGREED!
anyone know where i can get the full episodes? what websites
No. Sorry.
Comedy Gold
@Fluxchase i am like that as well, great movie, awesome reminiscence and pastiche of impersonations and mix of road movie
@GrinahStones Ha ha same goes for 2:20
the point of it is that its two men messing about, rob clearly doesnt fully understand how the octive thing works and steve keeps trying to interrupt him to tell him hes doing it wrong.
@Fluxchase Oh me too!! I would love to be in that car with the 2 of them :) although it would ruin the moment a bit :D
get out of the middle-lane Coogan!
That might be part of the joke.
Well, me, for one.
rob actually probably could have done opera

They didn't warm up!
@Fluxchase Same here, who gets tired of genius?
Ha, that first octave was fantastically flat. Still, 2 and a half is impressive.
One does not wish to be pedantic however is it The Highway Agency that one makes a complaint to for poor driving? One does not wish to be pedantic . . . and yet
Pure comedy
But I wuss a fool
3!... kind of lol
Dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Rob doesn't do the first octave properly, he's a couple of notes off the full range therefore he cheated!
Couple of notes?? He stared on g and ended on like g sharp!
Give him a second series you swine!
Rob's first octave was piss-poor.
That might just be the best bit of the entire series. Very very witty. The Terry Wogan reference was splendid. But Rob did cheat on the first octave, sadly. Have to say he went down in my estimation there.
