Steve coogan is way too funny for this crowd
Comics don't laugh at other comics. That room had a lot of comics in it.
@@VeryOldOneForever You've obviously never seen an audience with Billy Connolly
Yeah, it looked like some were to scared to laugh, especially at the beginning.
i must communicate that i am not a middle aged white man and i find him amazing. because its important for me to communicate my openness to all other humans.
AMERICANS! 🙄🤦🏼♂️
Straight away, he's got them by the jaffas.
Please, don't reply saying that's sexist. It's not.
It's Gold Finger. GOLD FINGER!
Sheff A disgusting!... I can tell your sex people!
Lovely stuff.
What a shame Steve Coogan had to do a speech infront of that lot
These people have no idea of his work?
That man is a genius. I have laughed more often, harder and for longer at this man’s hilarious, intelligent and sometimes slightly tragic comedy than any other comic from any other time.
well lets not forget Peter Cook. Or Mayall. But I agree, he's right up there.
Underrated genius
i still watch the same episodes of AP the last 20 years and they're still as good as ever. A true genius comic
Genius is a word that is bandied about too lightly by people who have struck the word "excellent" from their vocabulary and who lack a sense of proportion. Even if we limit ourselves to the British Isles, that country has so many comedians of the same talent and stature as Coogan that to claim he somehow surpasses them is ludicrous. If we were to believe YT commenters, the world is chock-full of underrated geniuses.
I agree. The other comparative names that come to mind, for myself, is Peters Cook and Sellers, Chris Morris.
They just don’t get it do they? He knows this, and the subtlety in the speech is genius. It’s why he’s one of the greatest ever
That was liquid acceptance
10/10 superb
That...was a goal!
That was textbook
BOOF! Eat my jokes
@Via THAT WAS AWESOME TV?
one of the finest and most underrated comics.....such wit and the subtle, dry British humour full of irony.....Genius
Totally agree. They should give him an award
@@Danjanon Skitting!!...great reply.
Yes, I've always loved our British humor, their style, clever cadence, cheeky double talk, beautiful pace control, best story telling, unabashed tongue in cheek elbow you in your side, take no prisoners, life celebrating comedians! By the way I'm Mexican American with some Irish...Guacamole with a little Blarney stone.
Irish wit
He's not underrated.
Needles to say, he had the last laugh.
James “can I just say, I don’t think anecdotes are your forte”
Lovely stuff.
@@BobTaile It's an Alan Partridge quote from the same episode he quoted.......
God that's good
Do you shave your crackling?
That audience should all hold hands and try and contact the living.
Bravo, Jeff! 😂 That comment is very well observed and Comedy Gold! 👏😂
Half the audience here, don't seem to get his sense of humor which is a shame
They must be all drunk.....
@@mihaelatudor2417 or left their brains at home!
LOL
“ DAN, DAN, DAN, DAN, DAN, DAN “
Thanks to Coogan who goes for the jugular here in a subtle way, and not always for the laughs.
The nuts on this man. Well played sir.
I think the intro made the audience think " Oh this sounds non PC! Should I laugh, clap or sit on my hands." After that, they were just uncomfortable.
Yep, you can see them not getting it. Shame
They would be pissing themselves if it was Alan Partridge
Adore him
Oooh!! RVA 😮 ... Adore you 😊
Damn right :-)
Nothing fills me with joy more than the camera panning to a crowd full of stuck up celebrities not laughing at hilarious people
Funny, intelligent speech delivered to a shallow, vapid audience.
Yep.
Nothing more I can add to that.
Agree. Completely over their heads. At least we can enjoy it though.
I think the initial opener probably shocked the woke brigade and made the non-woke feel unable to appreciate him.
Oh gee, be nice, his daughter was in the room.
Steve Coogan never fails to make me laugh! Absolutely love his humour! Brilliant speech!
Albeit downplayed, this award must taste almost as sweet as that Toblerone addiction, he so bravely overcame.
Although I'm not sure if winning a BAFTA would make you drive to Dundee in your bare feet....
I'm in Dundee in my bare feet, and I'm not even nominated
one of the funniest men ever! well done Steve getting through that with that mostly dull crowd!
Steve Coogan is an absolute genius!!!!
So refreshingly open and honest, I always liked him, and this video just reminded me why.
wasted on that audience, fantastic speech.
Mainly on the Americans in the audience. Generally speaking, they just can't grasp irony or sarcasm.
Nonsense. Spend a day in New York ya wanker
It was pretty, pretty pretty good
Not all Audiences cheer/clap everything . Sometimes they just like to take in the content uninterrupted so as to not upset the timing or value of the words.
@@tanz7877 I also think that was prettyyyyyy......prettyyyyyy.....prettyyyyy............good.
Well done, very nice to be given the opportunity to complete a decent monologue at an awards show. 👍🏽
His turn as tony Wilson in 24hr party people was immense, often overlooked. Maybe I’m biased towards its subject matter but what a frickin bangin film
Back of the net!! So glad he received this award. He is an Absolute Legend!!
He’s so eloquent, bright and funny
The best speech since gary willmots wedding!
Superb comment
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
10 on 10
😂
👍👍👍😂😂😂😂
Just a wonderfully funny comedian and a national treasure
Love that he said Bob Newhart. Coogan is a modern day Chaplin
Steve, that was great - about time for a stand up tour!
Drew - as himself.
@@tdurb0 Ye!s! But maybe Alan Partridge could interview him as well? Now that would be a project!!
Amazing.... The unimaginable gift of "TIMING".
Great speech proper British irony sarcasm great actor. Some of those people in the audience. Tell their faces to enjoy them selves.
Comedy Genius - Possibly the best speech I have heard from Steve Coogan
very nice speech and people were actually listening.thanks.
Brilliantly gifted man, it was like watching Alan all over again 😂🤣🥰🥰
This was wonderful :D
Look at those grimaces in those first couple of minutes. Congratulations Steve!
Yes, he very nicely took the piss. Did they even realize that?
@@irishguy6544 They're celebrities (mostly American), who did art and drama at school, they're not exactly the brightest of people. So probably not...
they all seem to like it. I don't know who the dude in glasses is though, he didn't know where to look
Yes he disliked by phoebe
Very good, genuine, funny, sarcastic and admirable.
Steve, himself, is a national treasure 👏🏻
Steve is wonderful, I'm hoping Matt Berry gets his props next!
Pure gold. Well, emerald. Semi-precious gem encrusted comedy. Diamante or whatever it is, comedy. Pure. As the driven snow. That is not a euphemism. No one was snorting. That's not a euphemism either. An absolute shower of quality. A pure shower of gold. A golden shower of comedy.
“I’m being ironic, in case you’re writing this down...or American...” ha ha! ...wait a minute...hey!
As American I thought that was hilarious. Love this guy
Brutal and absolutely accurate
Love his view, intelligent comedy, irony, sarcasm, wit, clever material, etc!! Great guy.
He's British - what do you expect?
Lovely stuff! Not my words but the words of shakin Stevens!
😀
Great stuff. About time 😁👍
This is a wonderful speech. There were many in the audience who were stoney faced but there was some laughter in the audience. The thing for me is that wherever ever you are in the world, you can watch and enjoy it now!
A living legend, who’ll be talked about in fifty years
He really won't, you simp.
Yeah, I don’t think the same will be said of Donald Glover, who couldn’t bear to even break a smile. Just too cool and frankly just too important of an icon to do so.
Can we just stop a second to imagine how funny it would be if Steve and John were on stage as Alan Partridge and Dr Steve Brule
love Coogan. a true legend of comedy
Bravo Coogan. A well respected speech.
I am glad he acknowledged Henry Normal. In the 90s when I lived in Manchester, I thought he was one of the best things about the place. I hope he is making a comfortable living these days, poetry never paid great.
Coogan would certainly acknowledge Henry Normal- he’s worked with him for over 20 years. They set up Baby Cow - check out their list of productions. His career went just fine without relying on the poetry, topped off with a BAFTA for services to TV comedy in 2017 just after he retired.
Love you, Steven ❤️ You're pure intelligence. A-haaa!
That was genuinely funny. Well played Steve Coogan.
Don't shine that torch in my face, mate. I've just lost a pint of blood.
The first award is for best Christ.
Gotta love Steve!
His punchlines are as consistent and hard hitting as the runs
He was so good in the Chaplin movie. I'm glad he got this award.
you mean Laurel & Hardy?
Ha ha, your killing me.
Just love Steve Coogan for his honesty
Amazing Speach steve .The stan and laurel performance was impeccable. .and I was dreading it .
An amazing underrated genius in every way!!
'Lynn some of these people have come from Stoke.'
ha ha ha ha comedy genius and i have to say fabulous actor /writer n all round talent ! steves a huge national treasure id say!!! xx
Steve on top form
This is so so good 😂😂😂
It took a moment for the message at 3:05 to sink in didn’t it - the complete opposite of what happens now. And some of the faces especially at the start were priceless - if I laugh and someone sees me laughing I might never work again - better tow the line.
This is extremely enjoyable!
Genius ! He is just above everybody else ,
Glad to see he bounced back!
PutinWithAnimals he was off his nut on toblerone mate
Allan I’ll never forgive Pepsi or Shirley from Pepsi and Shirley
@@grahamwells1774 Those bastards got him hooked 😡🍫🤢
Saw Coogan in the Witchwood venue in Ashton under Lyne late 80’s did a cracking stand up set, always remember the Spaghetti western skit, where he did the out of sync audio, genius 😎
So talented and original but mostly hilarious 😂❤️
It is classic Brititsh self-deprecating humor. He does it well.
All hail and long live Steve Coogan
Great to see the wit and clever humor of Steve and Ricky on these award shows, we need more of this real and raw humor. I say Steve should host the Oscars...
Ladies and gentlemen put your hands togeth...applaud, applaud like mad
Strong channeling of Ronnie Corbett at the beginning, love it
Split the crowd there, Loved it though
That audience is woeful.
The line “I don’t think this is the time or the place” didn’t get the recognition it deserved
Nobody will want to work with him....except, of course, those that want to line their own pockets, so he can pretty much say what he likes. Great speech. Coogan realises this. What a genius!
Irony or the subtlety of his humour is totally this man, unfortunately lost on this audience...... Thank you Steve for making me laugh over the many years, true professional as always... Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy..... Recognition; enough said....
Totally lost on an audience of people who actually voted to give him the award? Right...........
By the looks of some of their faces it definitely hit home.
Brilliant guy. The audience didn’t get the joke - they were it.
Brilliantly funny. A legend who will be remembered, loved and appreciated for at least....hmmmm....a year. xx
I met his mum and dad amazing genuine careing people
As always, a born comedian plays to the people at home NOT to the stiffs in the audience only worried about themselves... Rock me sexy Jesus.
This Alan Partridge episode is not available on Netflix
Partridge tries to hide his prejudices..this however is just great work
Amazing speech.
Bravo! Congratulations!
Brilliant Coogan as always. Confusing for some with agendas.
nailed waller bridge there. flavour of the month.
Yup and she's talentless.
Quite simply, the best..........
This guy is an absolute legend... he is 🔥🥰
Trying too hard in the beginning then his genius prevails.
Thank God, he finally got a decent haircut
How many sleepless nights have you endured waiting for it?
I know right! He needs to stick with this one.
Class is the biggest predictor of prosperity Steve, you’ve done better than you know - and definitely better than they know.
A great talent.
That's the best speech I've heard since Gary Wilmot's wedding...
Brilliant speech and for more entertainment scroll through the comments and laugh hysterically at the twats who don't recognise irony and sarcasm even when it's shoved in their face!! Amazing!!
I recognize irony and sarcasm, and I'm a fan of Steve Coogan as an actor, but this wasn't funny. Brits seem to love everything British no matter how bad it is.
@igeto12 How d'you know he's anti-left? He liked Coogan's speech and Coogan's a leftie.
@igeto12 Not particularly. They have plenty of crackpot notions which are just that. However, I probably agree with them more than I do with the hard left or the hard right.
Magnolia Rattus
Well that’s your opinion. It is obvious you’re not a Brit, as this speech seems to be too subtle, and nuanced for you. This speech was genuinely very funny, with smatterings of Alan Partridge thrown in. Unlike most American humour which tries too hard with ‘ hey look I’m being funny now’
igeto12
Dave Rubin, Sargon. Excellent guys
I LOVE Steve Coogan! ❤️
Brilliant. Some of the audience were seemingly recovering from a comedy bypass.
I enjoyed every wince in the crowd. I love you Coogan. But I love John C even more maybe.
Yeah John Cena could destroy him... Oh John Cleese... Yeah he's good as well
