  • Funny pipe, also known as flexible pipe or poly pipe, is a type of irrigation tubing that is used to connect sprinkler heads to the main irrigation line. It is flexible and easy to work with, making it a good choice for moving sprinkler heads.
    Moving a lawn sprinkler head with funny pipe is a relatively easy task that can be done by anyone with basic DIY skills. By following these instructions, you can easily move your sprinkler heads to new locations without having to dig up your yard.
    When you are extending the funny pipe, make sure that you do not kink it to restrict water flow and cause leaks.
    After you attached the funny pipe, test the sprinkler head to make sure it is working properly. If the sprinkler head is not working properly, you may need to adjust the funny pipe or the sprinkler head.

    I see that this is how you move it 6 feet but could you kindly make a video on how to move it 7 feet?

    Thank you. Question, is best to use flex pipe or swing pipe… does it matter? Swing pipe seems to feel so much sturdier than swing pipe but both are rated for different psi. I think the flex pipe is rated at 80 psi and swing pipe (the one used in this video) it is 30 psi.

      Swing pipe, also called ‘funny pipe’ is all I know. Flex pipe to me is just another nick name. The psi is not a concern as swing pipe is never used to hold constant pressure. Hence no clamps are used.

    I am a 43 year veteran of this profession. Funny-flex-pipe should NEVER be run more than 24" to 30" max! The manufacturer recommends this for several reasons; high friction loss, plus when there is a clogged line it many times is at the barbed fitting at the PVC line. I have had to hand dig 30' because an idiot ran flex that far and the clog could not be flushed until the flex was cut loose and the poly ell removed. I am a service expert and I would fire an employee if the ever broke this rule.

    Does using the 1/2 inch swing pipe reduce the pressure if you go from 3/4 pipe to 1/2 inch swing pipe to 3/4 inlet?

      Reducing the size of the line does not affect pressure, it affects volume of water. As long as you stay under 15 or 20 feet of swing pipe, it will usually deliver more water than the nozzle on the sprinkler head can use.

    @meHardware1 So will the funny pipe fitting screw into a 3/4 pex line as well or will i need a special fitting to convert from 3/4 pex to 3/4 funny pipe?

    • @MrHardware1
      @MrHardware1  Před měsícem +1

      Without having those lines in my hands, I would assume you have to convert the three-quarter inch pex to a male thread and a three-quarter inch funny pipe to a female thread and then you can screw the two adapters together and that’s how you will make a transition from one piece of pipe to another

      @@MrHardware1Thanks for the advice! 👍

    so you thread the funny pipe into the new head first. but when you thread into the adapter at the former sprinkler, won’t the sprinkler at the new location flop around while threading?

      Good point, I bet we took a couple of takes, and I wanted to get a closeup of threading.

    I see some folks heat the funny pipe end before attaching to sprinkler head. Looks like that is not necessary

      I find heating pipe on new fittings can make the joint weaker.
