A Margaritaville Resort is being built on the Indian River & a huge artificial lagoon Resort is planned not far from the Airport. A new luxury Hotel at Paradise Beach in Indialantic, will be finished soon and another is being built across A1A. I slowed down the video and could see my Condo building from the air. No need to stay at tourist trap Cocoa Beach. I recommend going South to Melbourne Beach and 15 minutes farther South to Sebastian Inlet State Park, where the tropical waters begin. You can actually see the color of the ocean change to a different blue. Just food for thought, if you want to experience some real Florida. Dolphins play in the Indian River.

I live 2 miles from Melbourne Airport. For us locals, it is so easy. Traveling to Orlando, always take 1-95 to HWY 528. HWY 192 is more direct but slower, with a ton of traffic signals as you approach Orlando. If you have time to kill, Melbourne Beach is really close as are some small great seafood hut restaurants on nearby HWY A1A. Stay away from Cocoa Beach, it is very crowded, and expensive, and other closer beaches are just as nice.

@@robertglasker After watching a few more youtube videos, I discovered I could rent a car from MLB to use for the day before the cruise and return in Cape Canaveral, where the car rental locations have shuttles to the Terminal. They recommend dropping off your bags with a companion before returning the vehicle, so that only one person has to ride the shuttle and you don't have to shlep your bags around. ☺ This saves me about $50 over private transport after the fee for delivering the rental to a different location from which I rented it. And I have the peace of mind of not relying on a company with low ratings to actually show up.

It would put me off using Tui now. I loved Sanford airport because it was quieter. I know it was further but I didn’t mind that. MCO is always very busy. Hated the security at MCO. Nightmare. That’s a good idea about the bags first then security. Stops that mad rush. Still think that drive’s a bit much when you’re tired too. Very informative and useful video. Thank you. My daughter’s autistic so it helps a great deal seeing all this before I decide where to fly to.

@@TwoandThreeQuartersUK not at all. Your review was very informed and unbiased I found. It was three years September since we flew virgin to MCO. Security was dreadful and very stressful. I travel alone with my son and disabled adult daughter. I loved Sanford because it was so quiet but found virgin better re the disability side so had to do MCO. I love the quieter airports but that distance is a bit far. I always pay for private transfers for the exact reason you said. Our hotel always seemed to be last off wherever we stayed 😕👎. I also love virgins bag drop at Disney springs. That was great. We haven’t travelled since covid. We had Disney and universal booked for April 2020. Moved to Sept 2020. Moved again to June 2021 and then cancelled as my sons off to university. My daughter’s immune deficient so not a good idea to travel again yet. Especially abroad. We have just booked our 1st visit for October and got quotes from both virgin and TUI, for the same dates and same hotel it was coming out over £2000 cheaper to fly with TUI into Melbourne compared to flying with virgin into MCO that’s also with us paying extra for premium with TUI and getting transfers included whereas virgin transfers weren’t included! We just couldn’t justify the extra £2000 for a shorter transfer

Great info on Melbourne Airport and transfers but ouch! that 3 hour journey.
We have the transfer booked from Melbourne in a years time and staying on Disney so it will be interesting to compare when the time comes - Premium swung it for us to use Tui 😀 this time £250 pp. Will definitely miss MCO arrival though, it's kind of iconic. We did use Tui at Sanford once but had a 12 hour delay so we won't talk about Bruno, I mean that.

The Orlando Melbourne Airport is really an underutilized, easy get in and out airport plus you're close to the beach. The Airlines probably get a much lower runway fees than Orlando International that makes it appealing to them to fly there.Obviously, the disadvantage is the distance to Orlando.

I called them asking if it was the same on the way back so we could book a taxi, they said it was definitely 1hr 30 The homeward bound journey was exactly the same 2hr 45mins . I emailed to head office on my return and customer service was not great. They sent me £60 gift voucher for tui! I loved the flight and the airport brilliant, I’d book a taxi in future. At last the truth! I flew ito Melbourne from Manchester on the 24th May, Start of the day up at 5am, on to the airport for a flight at 11.25 am...Early start because of the queue's. Only 4 days before travel TUI sent an e-mail to say premium seats that i booked in May 2020 were no longer available!!!..NO one at TUI could give me an explanation.. I did sort it out ( ex Britannia and Thomson staff here)...40 minutes queue through security, then a breakfast.. We were then told aircraft , a 787 Dreamliner all economy config was not ready because not cleaned from the previous day. so after a two hour delay we were on our way. The crew were fantastic on out 81/2 flight. Landed at Melbourne, cases last off and then to queue in a tent for the rental car... We landed at 3.45pm, finally get car at 5.30...( No sat nav, American cars do not have them, so used Google maps) It took from the airport to International Drive...2hours!...So arrived at accom at 8pm (1am UK time) Yep 19hrs.. NOT good Return journey took 1hour and 50 minutes, check in very busy as the TUI flight arrived from Gatwick same time as Manchester flight. Thank goodness i had premium on return, fast check in.. Told we could use the Executive lounge ...lol A room with plastic chairs, Bar stocked well, poor choice of lukewarm food. The we were told to go through security...Told remove belts, shoes etc...only 1 person checking passports, congestion while passengers were taking off shoes, then putting them back on...Not enough staff. Be advised NO duty free, and with a 787-8 and a 787-9, departure lounge full......All the airport staff were friendly but struggling. ...The airport is being rebuilt thanks to the mass amount of money that TUI are throwing at it.. so that it will be ready when their Cruise ships start to use Canaveral.....Think they should look after the passengers that are staying in Orlando... so there it is guys.....Tui calling it Orlando, yet 87 miles away... So from an ex Thomson staff...no more Tui i will take my business elsewhere.

Sounds like a nightmare! I think flying from Manchester won’t have helped (I’m hoping they sort their act out before we fly from there in November), but certainly not great either way for you when you got to Melbourne.
I guess everyone has different experiences with airline and airports. There’s a comment down below about bad experiences at MCO and we literally have never had a single issue!
They did an aircraft change with ours too - I know they have 2 787’s out of service at the minute so they must be struggling.

Thank you for your report on how you did. It helps me to decide how to travel to Disney from Manchester. The issues I had in MCO security were numerous. It took us over an hour and a half in the queue for disabilities. Then they tried to separate me from my son who was 14. They told me I was in the way waiting with the wheelchair. I couldn’t move because my son hadn’t come through. They also made me wait a further 20 minutes for my daughters medical bag after my son got through, and I was getting upset because it had her breathing equipment for her laryngectomy tube and I needed it desperately. I’m always so polite and calm with people because my daughter senses stress and gets very upset which makes things worse. I was anxious we’d miss the plane. We always have to be first on. By the time we’d got through they were calling our name to get on first. This is bearing in mind that we never dawdle when we arrive at the airport. We check in. Go straight through security and then get coffee etc once we’re safely through. We never even got time for coffee! I didn’t even have time to change my daughter in the airport bathroom before we embarked. It actually made me think twice about going back. Now with Manchesters issues I’m definitely not going for a while.
