The Great horned rat is the Chaos God of Ruin. Rot without rebirth, Slaughter without bravery. Plotting to destroy, not to gain. Art of only killing.

So essentially the aspects of the other chaos gods without their virtuous aspects.
Khorne's mindless slaughter without the honor
Tzeench's plotting without care for the bigger picture
Nurgle's cycle of stagnation cut off, with nothing to continue after rot
      Slaanesh's hedonism without the pleasure
I like that, sums up the skaven perfectly

@@thetsarofall8666 this is why I like to headcannon that malice/malal is chaos but with order to tempt it, destruction of everything around him so something more may grow, he is the end and the beginning, he is terror but he wants you to fight him, he is the madness that infects but he is also the helper who gives them comfort, malice is the very end of all chaos gods and their very beginning of the gods of order as well

I think I know what idea formed the GHR: existential fear.
Think about it. The Skaven have nothing but their own lives and their own accomplishments. They seek to become more than they are, committing their atrocities in the hopes they’ll be remembered. In the hopes they can make it before they’re gone from existence.
They’re scared, frightened, little children playing at adulthood for the fear that they’ll cease to exist at any moment. They hide this fear with exaggerated words and egos. With great accomplishments, they boast to try and forget just how scared they are for every second of their lives.
And their god, so bathed in his own terror, as to fear his children’s power over him. For that, he subjugates them as little more than pawns in a game he can’t even pretend to understand to play.
And fear without temperance always leads to ruin, removing the best aspects of other great attributes.

Played the crap out of the original Warhammer Quest ages ago. When our group got to maximum level, there were only two models in the game that my wizard couldn't just instantly kill with a snap of his fingers.
A Greater Daemon of Khorne, because it was just flat out immune to magic. And those GD, pos cheating ass Verminlords.
Their rules allowed them to deploy by popping up next to a hero, and immediately going first in a bonus close combat round, regardless of any other rules. We had to start grouping up around my wizard to prevent him from being assassinated by those things.
    Verminlords have my respect.

I'd say the Horned rat is not as much an aspect of any Chaos god, as it's born from them. It would not surprise me that it once was a greater demon of chaos undivided carrying aspects of all the chaos gods that through completing the screaming bell managed to spawn the skaven as worshippers. As is fact in the Warhammer universe: If enough people believe it, it is. With enough followers, this once greater demon ascended into godhood.
That's just my personal pet theory.

    • @wyvernnemecek595
      @wyvernnemecek595 Před 3 lety +12

An understandable mindset, however you forget that *all* gods start that way. I can actually help prove it, too!
Imagine, if you will, a vast ocean. Like all things do, life crawls out of this ocean upon the islands standing defiantly against the current. Eventually does this life seek to explore, to learn and so they swim and sail about this ocean to the best of their ability.
As a consequence of venturing back into the womb from whence it came, this life creates ripples in the ocean. Filth falls off the skin and fills the water around it. All things around it-in their natural order-are suddenly met with anomalous substance in their waters.
Unable to do much else, all within the ocean adapts as more of this contamination falls off the boats and bodies entering the water from above. To adapt, one must eat and grow. To do that, others must perish.
As the earliest instances of our souls gaining sapience was war held, birthing Khorne out of his dormancy-having feasted greatly on the lesser entities in the Realm of Chaos. From here was the first Chaos God born in true, his name and power sending shockwaves through the realm that he called his home.
Thus did the cycle repeat itself a dozen fold, with daemons and entities of the Sea of Souls growing independent of whatever masters might’ve owned them. The Great Gatherer, The Coiling Ones, The Ever Raging Flame and The Devourer of Existence are such examples of daemons whom grew to become gods themselves-diving low to hide in the abyss wherein the greater gods might not find them in those inky depths.
It's how all of the gods came to be, sans a couple (Morghur, for example is a mortal whom attained deific status). This means, you're right....and wrong, simultaneously. Beautiful how Chaos works, innit?

Maybe the chaos gods are actually aspects of the horned rat and not the other way around. He seems to be the äquivalent of the devil too, especially if you look at the story that mirrors the tower of Babylon (don't remember the name of the story tho) where a bell drove a whole city mad and corrupted it because they struck a pact to complete a tower in honor of their gods...

  • @80Elminster
    @80Elminster Před 4 lety +6

I think the horned one is indeed a manifestation of all the chaos gods embodied in one entity. I think the chaos gods once made a deal between themselves a long, looooong time ago. They saw the skaven were so numerous that whoever claimed their worship would be the most powerful chaos god and ruin the "balance" of the great game. Thus they all gave a little bit of themselves and created the Great Horned One. A proxy so to speak, worshipped by all skaven and dividing it's worship amongst the chaos gods themselves. As such you could call him a unique deity but one created and inexorably linked to the four primary chaos gods.

  • @Admiralkirk95

It's interesting to think that the great horned rat may be some renegade Chaos god that is partially made up from all four chaos gods. Perhaps he was an experiment gone awry by the gods, an attempt to make a single greater demon made from all four of them and instead created a whole new monster.
Perhaps the Great horned rat has always existed and saw the chaos gods and due to his jealousy and envy, he tried to be all four at the same time(if anyone has played darksiders 3 to the end you'll kinda get what I mean) Cause of all the traits the great horned rat has it's his extreme jealousy and pride that seems to be exclusive to him. The rest feels like he's taken minor parts of the other four putting his own twist on them.
His warrior verminlord is a proud warrior with skill and expertise but underneath is a prideful and somewhat cowardly (Going second) kind of personality. Desperatly trying to be the center of attention but at little danger to himself.
The assassin one is basically everything Eshin wants to be, the perfect assassin, perfection, makes me think of Slaanesh.
The plague one is clearly going to be Nurgle, nuff said.
And the final one is a magic user, Tzeentch is the chaos god most commonly affiliated with strong magic(I know Slaanesh and Nurgle have magic uses but Tzeetch feels more focused on it) but they also are the most planning and schemeing, something that Tzeentch is also all about, the plans within plans.
While the exalted verminlord is a representation of himself specifically.
So I wouldn't be surprised if the great horned rat is some kind of project of the four chaos gods gone rogue, or was made by accident, or an entity that's jealosy and pride made it try to be all four.

man that first verminlord at 5:41 would be scary to fight. i want to fight it or run from it in vermintide 2. it can be like left for dead 2 the witch lady and can one shot you by grabbing you, if picked up the only save from being instantly down is another teammates saving you, would be cool if something like that roams around the map the whole entire match while you try to avoid it its slow but stealthy and carries a dark aura and everything around it when it approaches, you just don't know which direction its coming from. it can have the HP of 3 rat ogres, and has 100's of little normal rats that circle around it that protect it from some damage and the little rats attack people who melee it at times. the normal 4 legged rats on the ground scatter after taking to many hits or attacks but regenerate like a shield overtime around the verminlord waiting for their next meal to come.
    ability's:
grab-grabs a hero and put them into dying state if the hero or teammates don't use a knockback affect on the target in a few secs.
rat swarm: circle of small swarm rats that shield the verminlord from attacks and do little damage overtime to heroes in close combat.
lunge attack can lunge and attack a hero at a far distance.
Fear: being in close combat while facing the verminlord applies fear overtime making you do less melee damage until you leave close combat for a sec.
Scream: verminlord does a massive shout that summons rats to aid it in combat.

Hey Jumbo when you ware doing the intro to the Vermin Lords you mentioned that they use Glave's dose that mean all Vermin lords have them but only the War-bringers one exalted lord decide to use them?

From what I understand the reason it is mentioned as them using Glave's is that the Warbringers are the most common type actually seen in battle and therefore the most often associated when talking about Verminlords in general. Similar to how when you think of Bloodthirsters you usually assume they have axes, but the could use swords or flails in the lore. So, hopefully that answers your question. Also, thanks for watching and commenting.

I love all the lore here but i guess my biggest question is how tall is a verminlord exactly? Would it be as tall as a chaos giant or even bigger?

It is stated that Verminlords are as tall as a Giant. Which has quite a bit of variance, but I would put them in the very large category.
