My 2002 Saleen blew up and I just took the motor out this week. Was wanting to potentially rebuild but this might be a better option. Glad I found this channel
Definitely unfortunate to hear that happened but I’m happy to hear this video helped you out! My car is running great with the new motor. Should have a video out soon with some tuning and data logging! Good luck with your swap!
I've got an 06 S197 V6 Pony Package, low mileage, just 103k on it now in 2023 but I'm considering down the road when the timing chains finally die on the 4.0L. I used to have an 09 P71 and thought about swapping a P71 4.6 when my 4.0L dies.
I did this also I got an 08 crown Vic P71 thats the police car motor. With those motors they are the same exact motor as the mustang just change Throttle body Oil pump

Straightforward video. I'm definitely subscribing. I'm in Burundi, and I plan to buy a Mustang Cobra GT 1997 model. I will surely need some useful information
Great video. I have a 1999 Crown Vic P71 Police Interceptor with the street package. All other P71's have the Police Interceptor insignia but with the street package the insignia is Crown Victoria. I had to replace the original intake manifold with the plastic thermostat housing to one with the newer aluminum housing. Other than that, there have been no issues with the engine. I thought it was the same as the one in the Mustang, but you have pointed out the differences. Even though my car is a 99, it only has 140,000 miles. It had 99,000 when I bought it. It was purchased new by an Indiana Police department for their Chief of Police. It has never failed me and should last another 20 or 30 years. I was thinking about putting a high-performance exhaust on it. Can this be done with the Crown Vic engine or should I just leave it the way it is?
You can definitely install an exhaust on the Crown Vic. The stock exhaust is very similar to a stock Mustang GT exhaust. You won't be able to slap on a Mustang exhaust, but I'm sure there are a few companies that make aftermarket systems for Crown Vics with how popular they have been getting recently. You could also always get an exhaust shop to build you a cat-back with mufflers/resonators of your choosing and 2.5" or 3" piping. Pair that with an intake, tune, and a cat delete if your state will allow it, and there's no reason you couldn't make some pretty solid power gains along with a nice sound. But even with just a catback, you should get a little bump in power, but a nice sound as well.
I blew the engine in my mustang, I recently bought a 2007 crown Vic police interceptor engine, I found myself at an issue because the flywheel for the mustang is 8 bolts and the one on my crown Vic motor is 6, would the original 6 bolt flywheel work fine with my original clutch and what not?
It should work just fine with the clutch. Obviously I’d recommend installing the clutch to the flywheel outside of the car and if possible, mate the trans to it as well. But if it all goes together, it should be good to go
Hi. I need some technical help. I am putting a Crown vic Romeo into my New edge . I am using a 2000 model engine. The problem I am having is my timing chain covers are different. Will they interchange? The mustang is an 03. Someone put an engine in prior to my owning it out of a 2012 F150.I blew my head gaskets is the reason for the engine swap
A 2012 F150 would have a 3v 4.6 which is a completely different engine than what ever came in these cars. The 99-04 GTs got the 2v engines. Unless the engine that's in it now isn't really from that new of an F150. As for the timing cover, all 2vs post 2000 have the newer belt routing. Its ok if the new engine doesn't have the same belt routing as all of the accessories mount in the same locations.
I have a 1996 mustang gt 4.6l v8 drift setup 5 speed, just recently started knocking real bad so what’s the best option/crown Vic that’s more of a plug n play type of deal?
Really any of the 2vs in 2001+ Crown Vic/Town Car/Grand Marquis would be fine. You'd actually end up with a superior, more powerful engine anyways by doing that and it should be relatively the same process.
@@skyhart9516 I would leave the 08 heads on the motor. PI motors make more power anyways, I don’t see any reason why you’d swap them. The car will run most likely with the PI motor with no problem, just not optimal like it could. Won’t be maximizing the power it can make
I just got a 98 -2011 Crown Vic oil filter adapter for my 96 Mustang GT to replace and remove what I believe is a failing oil cooler. So you think it will be good to use, no fitment problems?
The New Edge cars only got the 3.8 and 3.9 V6. I think the S197 got the 4.0. I'm sure the swap can be done, but I'm not sure what that process is like.
We left the crown vic intake and changed the plenum and throttle body, I still have the GT harness can you please tell me what the 2 wires are coming out under the intake and/or where is the temp sensor is on the crown vic motor?
If you're talking about the coolant temp sensor, it should be located on the passenger side up front on the Intake manifold. As for under the intake manifold, there's a knock sensor attached the valley of the motor that isn't used in the Mustang if that's what you're referring to.
The Vic pick up tube is probably sitting right on the bottom of the pan. I’ve seen someone do that before and it ended up not being able to flow oil well and starved itself and lost oil pressure
HELP! Why does the romeo oil pan need to be changed from the crown vic's to the mustang's? I thought the romeo engine would still need it's oil pan due to it being the oil amount that the romeo engine needs.
The Romeo and Windsor motors use the same amount of oil. The reason you need to swap the crown Vic pan and pick up out for a mustang one is for K Member clearance. The crown Vic one will contact and dent the pan, shoving it into the pick up and allowing the motor to run maybe for a minute before it starves itself of oil
@@904Saleen Thanks! One more question if you can answer it. What 4.6l can I swap into a 1997 Mustang GT. I've found 99-04 engines and crown vic engines but I never get a clear answer on whether it will be a pain in the ass to swap them into my 97 GT. I don't want extreme power, just a regular ol' 4.6 swap but I'm no mechanic and don't want to blow hundreds to or even thousands of dollars on an engine that isn't compatible. Sorry for the long winded question I'm just ready to get this swap started and it's been very confusing
