Enter the Brighton Marathon - easiest way to complete an Ultra!
I “raced” Tom on the Centurion SDW50 a few years back. He pipped me at the finish beating me by a mere 4 hours 🥵
Great advice, but it felt rather like a hard sell on the garmin!
Shameless Garmin plug
Agreed, this video felt very forced. It really should have a "this video is sponsored by Garmin" disclaimer. I would actually have respected it a lot more
Because they are great 😃
Im user of Suunto
I'm NEVER lost! Only temporarily unsure of my position! 🤣
Ha! I like this! That's a great way to look at it!
I skipped marathons and went right to 50ks, and I've loved every minute. I'm a very average runner who works 2 jobs, about 55-60 hours a week, so getting in the time to train is my biggest challenge. I've learned you can do a LOT in 20-30 minutes... whether it's a low HR recovery run, a speed session, a strength and mobility session, some yoga or foam rolling. I plan out my longer runs in advance, then cram in the mini segments where I can. I'm having more fun now with my running than I ever have, with less injuries!
Great to hear, Kelly! You're doing so well to fit in your training into a busy life! Good to know you've found some useful tips here 🙂
@@runningchannel I'll be honest, it's a struggle I don't always win! 😂 Your channel definitely helps me know what things to focus my limited time on!
Seriously guys - you really didn't even try to hide the fact that this is a Garmin paid ad :)
Should be marked as sponsored
Regardless, still some great tips from an awesome runner
Hiding in plain sight with a "Includes paid promotion" banner at the start.
Thanks for watching Adrian. We do always mark any sponsored videos as containing paid content on CZcams (you should see a little message within the first 10 seconds of the video). We also include the brand logo alongside our own in the introduction.
Rest assured, we only work with brands where we believe in the products and we work hard to make sure our videos are entertaining and helpful for you. Hope this helps 🙂
I love how many people have skipped over the marathon right into ultras! I decided to do just that last night. Signed up for a 50k in Jan 2023 and hoping to run my first marathon in April. It's all so fun! As soon as I stopped worrying about being fast and just enjoyed being out I finally got excited about running.
I did my first 100k this summer and absolutely loved it 😁 so, obviously I then signed up for a 100 miler which is in 5 weeks time! 😱
Nice work Juliet! Which 100 miler are you running?
That is awesome, good luck!!
@@runningchannel it’s the Dartmoor Way 100 (actually more like 110) so I’m prepared to get wet and muddy!
Legend ;)
Wow! 👏👏😱
Managed about 3/4 of my first 100km trail ultra race this year before getting injured! Have signed up for another crack at it next year, along with a 50km warm up race!
Oh no! Sorry to hear about the injury Craig - hope all goes well for next year!
When they got to "hydration/fuel", I was wondering how they were going to plug Garmin watches. They did it though 👍
Thanks, for this great video!!
Is this a genuine record attempt for the longest advert?
That's so awesome that Tom came on the video!
I know!! Thanks so much for watching!
It’s something I’m working towards. Did my first trail marathon Iast weekend, 20 years after I ran London marathon which was my my previous race over the distance!
thanks for the top tips sir Tom Evans, 😎👌
Signed up for Hadrian’s Wall Ultra next year. Figured like any sensible person I’d skip the marathon and go straight for the ultra 😳😂😂
From one sensible person to another, that sounds like an incredible first ultra! Good luck!
And why not! Sounds awesome Rachel! Good luck with your training 😀
Getting lost is never a waste of time I read somewhere. Thanks for the tips, good interview. Next year oktober i will do my first 50 k, but first a marathon in april.
Thanks for watching Jan! All the best for your marathon and ultra!
Thanks for this video. I have two x 100k ultras planned for the first half of next year. I have completed an irl 70k and solo 100k and 100 miler. I love long distance running.
Exciting times, Katherine! Good luck with your training 🙂
Great advice, I went as far as 50km race. Not sure I will ever go further but never say never .
Thanks Janice!
Great work on the run! How long have you been running for? i am thinking about getting into it I figure it would make a great video series.
Love the channel, not so much the Garmin advert....
have signed up for RTTS in July 2022 (the 2nd day which is 50k). Nervous as hell but excited all the same.. MK marathon in May comes before that tho so training is starting in earnest soon, just putting everything into my calendar plan and going to do my best to stick to is. eek! :D
If all goes according to plan I'll do my first 50K in Spring 2022 and my first 50 miler that fall. I'm excited, and just a bit terrified. 😁😬🏃♀️
You've got oodles of time to prepare, you'll do great!
Brilliant, Elizabeth! Good luck with your training - you can do this 💪
I'm thinking of signing up for a local 55km next year.
Im sandeep nepal watching your video
Ran North Downs Way 50 and filmed it. My first 50 and a great day out. Tom was on the competitor list but wasn’t able to make it on the day. I’d love to see him tackle it!
That was an awesome achievement & video Dan👍
@@ThatRunningGuy thanks Chris! Your recent London vid was well worth a watch!
That is awesome Dan - well done! Do you have plans for more ultras?
@@DanRuns on how not to run a marathon 🤣
@@runningchannel I do! Many more. I will be returning to NDW next year to do better. Send one of the team along to experience the day!
Would love to, but... was actually wondering what would be a good starting point in training/signing up for a ultra? Need to run a marathon first?
Largest run up till now is a 30km long run
Thanks so much for watching! It's not always necessary to have run a marathon first - some runners just jump straight in! You could try a 50k. For my first ultra, I chose a lapped event that way there was no pressure to go the ultra distance unless I felt like I could. It's a great way to start as you just take one lap at a time. Hope this helps and good luck!
I did the same, I skipped the marathon and did a relatively flat, looped 50k... the "easiest" ultra possible. I don't regret it for a second. I'm doing my first trail marathon in a month, and though I would never say marathons are "easy", running a couple 50ks first makes me feel confident and excited to try a marathon.
Running an ultra is a very very aspirational target for me. If I can manage to bag a marathon in the autumn of 2022 I will be thinking of stretching out for an "easy" ultra.
Yeah, I know: easy?!?!? 🤣
It's a great goal to have, Michael! And once you've got that marathon distance under your belt, stepping up to a 50k shouldn't feel like such a leap.
Good luck with your marathon training 🙂
Be interesting on tips for running downhill, something that's rarely mentioned.
I'm ummming and awing to do on next year
Yes that's a great suggestion Lee! Thanks for watching 🙂
Lost in an Ultra? Of course not, I just love the long route. 😅
I am doing 2 ultras next year, the Snowdonia trail ultra and The Big School Run 12 hour endurance AAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! Allie Bailey made me do it after she challenged us to run 100miles!!!! Loved the video, great hints and tips, but...it did feel like one big advertisement video for garmin! I know you need the sponsorship, but it could have been done in a far less obvious way. Still liked the video!!
Thanks so much for watching Kingsley and thanks for your feedback, we'll take this on board! Exciting races ahead for you - good luck with your training!
@@runningchannel Cheers, I know the training will be ok once my injury has cleared up! I am moving into the ultras as they are slower and PB are not as important - "finish lines, not finish times!!!!" - love that saying
Love love your awesome video, massive thumbs up
Thank you Andy!
It was so great
This year I ran a 22k (1.2km elevation) and 50k (2.4km elevation) trail races on consecutive days.
Next year I'm signed up for the 100k (4.8km elevation) at the same event. I'm equal parts excited and nervous.
Sounds great Mark! Good luck with your training 💪
The longest Garmin advert i've ever seen.
Amazing tips
Glad you like them!
Is he giving advice or selling garmin watchs?
This is just. Garmin add
I use Garmin but wish this had been more than product placement
I think mentioning that this video is sponsored will create more openess and authenticity between you and the viewers. I know in the us it dictated by law, probably not jn the uk but it would still be good practice in my opinion. Dissapointed
It's marked as sponsored.
Hi Yelina, we do always flag any sponsored videos as containing paid content which ensures that CZcams shows a message on screen for the first 10s of the video. We also include the brand logo alongside our own in the introduction. We only work with brands where we believe in the products and are always trying to ensure that our videos are useful and entertaining first and foremost. The support from brand partners is what makes it possible for us to make free videos about what we love, and we’re always focused on making sure additional features we mention are genuinely useful. Your opinion and support is really important to us, so please do drop us an email if you have any questions or concerns.
I was genuinely just interested in his advice but this is just a guided plug for a watch.
Hi Anna and team. A great vlog and good to get Tom's advice. My first marathon bagged this year at Chester and my first ultra booked Manchester to Liverpool in April-22!😬 6 UTMB points if... Oops! When I finish.😁👍
This watch dependant guy had put me off buying a garmin. Will be getting a polar instead after this
Ran 50 miles over the Brecon Beacons last week
Awesome, well done Dean!
And what is CCC & UTMB?
UTMB is an ultra race in France, Switzerland and Italy called Ultra Tour du Mont Blanc. The CCC is one of the distances they race that weekend, I believe it's 101kms.
Beacons way 100 👍🏻
I am indian i love your videos♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Basically just delegate everything to your Garmin then. That was tedious 🙄
Become a fat burner and get off the carbohydrate roller coaster.
But... I LOVE carbs!! 😆

Are you sure running isn't bad for your knees...seems like every male (maybe more weight so more injuries) on your show has major injury problems. 🤔
😂 Debunked. Studies show running strengthens the structure of the knee with thoughtful training. Injuries can come from improper form, too much too fast too soon, overdoing it for your body, or simply taking a bad step. All physical activity comes with some risk of injury, but nothing like the health consequences of NOT being active.
Garmin Ambassador - Tom Evans . Crap video
bro should relax his forehead and shill out less for garmin.
maybe we'd have learned more if we went into that knee surgery story.
