- There are too many Bullet Heavens, and since people keep asking for even more recommendations, I put together a 'living' tier list with my favorites!
Here's my blog post that I'll try to keep updated with every Bullet Heaven that I like: www.wanderbots.com/blog/bullet-heaven-tier-list

I really appreciate this longer form showcase of bullet heavens. I picked up GunSuit Guardians & added a few more to my wish list thanks to you.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
THE BULLET HEAVEN TIERLIST!!!!!
Actually insane how i missed this upload, i literally asked for this video a few days ago on one of your videos lmao. Lets go!
We are lucky to work with Brotato, 20 Minutes till Dawn, Star Survivor and Spellbook Demonslayers, thank you for making this super cool video!
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Great video! I love these types of games and was looking for new ones to try out. Thanks for taking the time to pick through them all.
Yes same I love this new genre. After I got my steam deck I fell into the SHMUP genre but these games are very elitist once you past the first 3 hours of gameplay it asks for a lot of dedication to get a decent score, bullets heaven games are so much more accessible but they have the same kind of iteration it's like gaming poetry I love it.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
I've been playing a new one called Halls Of Torment and i recommend it! It has an early Diablo aesthetic that I like. It's very early in it's development so there's some bugs but none of them have been game breaking. I'm really enjoying the demo for it
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Thanks for putting our game Road to Madness on your list! ❤ Working on it! 😊
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Wander, thank you for this vid, you're awesome.
Also thanks for all the vids on bullet heavens, i knew all the bundle games thanks to your vids.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Very happy to see you make this video.
Since I found your channel I've grown more and more appreciative of your analysis of the video games as a whole.
Big fan of the bullet heaven genre thanks to you as well so this video felt great.
I'm just curious about the last time you played Spirit Hunters.
I found it thanks to you, play it regularly and I feel like the game evolved quite a bit since its first form. The talent tree nodes are a lot cheaper, more diverse and there even are new maps and heroes (with specific abilities now) So I just hope that one day in your crazy busy schedule you get the chance to try it again.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
The first game I played in this genre was Halls of Torment.
I like that you don't label them worst, but rather things like "rising star" and "Purgatory"
I am so happy you did this, so often I want to ask these major game let players how they would rank games.
I want to know what game to get next.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
If you love spell programming, Dice and Slice (not a bullet heaven tho) has an amazing item system that changes your character's kit. It honestly was the coolest roguelike system I've ever seen. Thanks for the Touhou review too, I never really linked D&S's system with Noita and TLS. I'm going to try them out.
Hes played it I think
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
@@Fernandinho05-u3s I think he just didn't enjoy it. It could also be that he didn't go too deep into it, so he never tried the end end game.
I think the following are good name/references for the genre.
- Roguelike horde games
- Survivor-like
- Roguelike Survivor
- Bullet hell Survivor
- Incremental Survivor
I think of these Roguelike Survivor kinda sounds best.
"It's a weird one" is a glowing review, considering what we're going for with Picayune Dreams ;)
I have high hopes that the end product is going to surpass any expectations that were set during the Next Fest demo!
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
yo hi Graeme
Picayune Dreams is my most anticipated Bullet Heaven that's yet to be released.
Loved everything about this!
I'll check it out, extremely powerful capybara is also looking good.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
the link to the tier list doesnt work
edit: i found it on your website and you're still missing Death must die, Halls of torment and Spellbook demonslayers.
I am honestly so happy about Holocure being in the Incredible tier, it is fantastic that a fan project is objectively great even if you know NOTHING of the original source. Also, the Touhou game being in the secret category just makes sense and I love that
Yes, I've been playing this so much!
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
it is his tier list not yours bro @@Fernandinho05-u3s
How did i miss this Humble Bundle??? Thanks for pointing it out!
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Striving For Light, Crimson Dawn, Gunlocked, Doomsday Fodder and Outer Terror are missing in the list, but otherwise again a great video from the mighty Wanderbot.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
I Like the Visual Style of Soulstone Survivors. The Roadmap looks promising. And I can't wait for Rogue Soulstone. Hopefully it will be as good as Soulstone Survivors.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
If I had no context looking at this list, I'd think 'bullet purgatory' was your F tier.
But special recognition for nova drift and Touhou library is well deserved.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Yay Star Survivors! Any plans on revisiting that one with the elites and asteroid events update?
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Thanks for this. This is my favorite genre of games currently. I appreciate you curating them all in one place. I hope you do an updated list. There are a ton of these games dropping every month. A bunch of clones and some are worth your time others are bleh.
Great video, I guess I am not the only one who subs because you are the best bullet heaven reviewer. You were smart to catch on this train.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
@@Fernandinho05-u3s because this is not a steam review comment he's doing but his own appreciation of said games. I have not tried that one but the rating of the reviews on steam is not a reliable indicator to rate a game you have to read the comments and get to know what a game is about on youtube before getting a better idea of a game's value.
Surprised to see that 'Army of Ruin' isn't on here. I think the presentation on that game is one of the best. The gameplay beats out some of these too. If you do ever update Wander, could you include this one on there. I'd like to see what you thought of it!
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
I'm so glad that Nova Drift is on the very top, fully agree with it.
on the very bottom, no?
It's a bonus category. Nova Drift is incredible though.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
@@Fernandinho05-u3s it's a special category
Are you sponsored by Brotato and Rogue Genesia? How could you pick those over Spirit hunters and vampire survivors?
Hey Wander, could you consider making a playlist with either your first or last video covering games mentioned (and keep it updated as you plan to do with the tier list on the website)
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
I love that bullet heaven thumbnail, it gives me supervillain biblically accurate angel vibes
About Voidscrappers dodge builds, there's also dodge builds in 20Min until Dawn and in Bounty of One, I don't know which came up with first, but it's a fun way to build in each title
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
i played every VS clones
but now i still playing:
holocure(max out and if there's update comin out)
return to abyss(subjective because it was new)
nice list. I would also add Spellbook Demonslayers to the list. it's fast and has multiple builds available.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Loved this video ^_^
Amazing how many of these are already top notch yet still in Early Access meaning they aren't at their peak in quality and content yet. Exciting.
I didn’t know I wanted this. Cheers ❤
Great Video, I always frowned upon Vampire Survivors because of how it looked, and I didn't know it was a genre, but for that cheap I had to give it go, and now I'm absolutely hooked on the genre. Great play on the Deck as well.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
That's a lot of games in one Humble Bundle.
I purchased rogue genesia after stumbling upon one of your videos and i CAN'T STOP PLAYING. The game is good. I wish my graphics card was better though, the game is quite heavy graphics wise.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Congratulations 🎉
i love bullet heaven even before Vampire survivors!!! Been playing a lot of survivor io on android and other bullet heaven games on android
I'm still waiting for an online co-op bullet heaven ranking ;-)
What do you think about Magic Survival, the actual predecessor of this genre?
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
RIP: Me who waits for games to come out of early access.
I've noticed that you forgot to include "Halls of Torment", it's a great game, definitely "incredible" tier for me. You should check it out.
P.S
I'm not a developer of this game, just a fan.
Since you add some edge cases to the list, would SNKRX be featured as well ? It's FLERP but Snake instead of Tower Defense (and the OST is really flow inducing and great overall, by Kubbi)
Nahhh, the SNKRX dev burned a bunch of bridges by going all-in on crypto/NFT trash + talking about how women are naturally less inclined towards it for some imaginary reason. Not the kind of person I want to feature more than I already have.
@@wanderbots thanks for the answer, I didn't knew about that and damn this is sad, the game is so joyful, it's a shame it's associated with a dev that has this kind of issues. Thanks for sharing this
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Unfortumately Sun Down faced a lot of controversy because at the time it was released this dev team had another game that was a long time on early access still in development so the ppl waiting for this first game got REALLY mad that they were working on something else before finishing it, so the team decided it was better to postpone Sun Down until they had their first game more developed, hopefully they get back at developing Sun Down in the future, it was a really good concept that i think deserves to come into fruition.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Damn I thought this was going to mention Bullet heaven 2 at some point in this video so sad that CZcams tricked me
Survivor mercs have bit of potential.
You got general merc dna customization - cool look and music - hard runs.. older cheesey rambo style action.
I'm curious how or if a first person perspective would work in one of these games. If I were a game dev, that's the game I would (try to) make. Maybe in the style of an old school 2.5D arena shooter like Doom or Marathon.
I feel like Tower of Guns's brand of FPS would work reasonably well.
I kinda sad when you didn't put Magic Survivor into the list, but i understand because it was such an underrated bullet hell game and it was one of my favorite game
I'm just not a mobile game guy, so while Magic Survivor is the first (or maybe Crimsonland?), it's also something I'm not comfortable recommending without putting time into it.
the video i needed. But i mean Boneraiser minions, so...
Oh, I thought magic survival started the genre
boneraiser minions does difficulty so well. and build strength progression alongside meta mechanics. gosh, now THAT is a great game.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
review this please Lament of Kyoto and Doomsday Fodder.
Man I would love to see Binding of Isaac in this style!
Does anyone have any bullet hells for playstation
Return to Abyss falls off hard after a strong start, imo
no way would i ever put it above Vampire survivors, not by a long long shot
I am sad that Mobmania wasn't included in this list.
If Atomic Picnic is a Bullet Heavens, are Risk of Rain 1 and 2 Bullet Heavens as well ? I think you can argue for a yes on this one, so I'd add RoR1 and RoR2 to the list
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
looking for a bullet heaven game that suits me, i want Magic Survival but with more upgrade options. I honestly cant tell what is closest to that through this video, since Magic Survival is not on the list ):
And maybe i just havent played 20MTD long enough, but it doesnt feel like it ever gives you enough mass kills. Not really a bullet "heaven" to me, yknow? It leads me to want to try Vampire Survivors, but if the upgrades cap out at around 15 min of playthrough then i imagine it gets boring pretty fast. I like the idea where you NEED to play an infinite mode in order to become truly op and maxed out. Which Magic Survival kind of gives me, but again, i want more upgrade options. I also do like the meta upgrades too, so something like brotato which doesnt have that, appeals less to me. For example, I really enjoyed Hades' meta progression. it didnt take forever to feel like you were improving at all, but had extensive upgrades there too.
Anyone play Magic Survival too and knows which game is best?
bullet hell = best games when i am working
No Project Lazarus? And for myself it would be VS, Soulstone and Project Lazarus.
I honestly can't figure out why people like that game. Maybe I need to play more, but it just feels so meh that it's hard to do so.
@@wanderbots I agree it is sort of meh, but should be included as wait and see. Def needs to work on boss and evolution of all weapons. Still, only one that is not pixelated or low poly which makes it unique in this genre. And the ST is pretty bumping.
Cool list. You're right, would be good if Steam added a dedicated tag. It's crazy how big this genre has become now. When we started developing our own game, there was maybe 5 bullet heavens out. Now as we're about to enter this field with 100s more, it's a much scarier proposition.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Lets go I Love bullet heavens
Hope you get the chance to try Time Survivors, our bullet heaven where you play as historical characters and travel different time eras!
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
15:56 for HoloCure.
I'm surprised this list doesn't have Time Wasters, but hey it's still a good list.
I don't showcase games that use generative images if I can help it, so I didn't include TW.
ROGUE GENESIA MVP!!!
They need to make a bullet heaven Doom
hey wander bot vampure servors is geting is seconud dlc in the next two weeks for even more contenct for like roughtly 2$ usd.
You should take a look at Time Wasters - an easy pick for the "Incredible" category, imo.
Nah, like I said in other comments: I don't feature games that use generative imagery.
@@wanderbots What do you mean by "generative imagery"? (Sorry, not a native speaker and I've never encountered the term before). EDIT: I checked another reply of yours and now I see what you mean. Yeah, that's definitely not cool, which is really sad, because the game really pops imo. :(
I would put time wasters in rising stars. Needs more content and some minor changes but has a good idea and gameplay.
Nah. I try to avoid featuring games that use generated art. My mistake for not noticing it with my prior coverage.
@everything bagel I care. A lot. These image generators scraped my own art and the art of thousands of other artists. I will not support that shit no matter how many techbros neg me about it.
One of my fave of the genre, but weapons' balance need work. Plasma way too OP comparatively.
@@wanderbots Do you have a link for this? Had a quick google around and not seeing anything.
@@sofadhana1289 it's really obvious if you look closely at their presskit: press.timegamers.com/sheet.php?p=time_wasters
Specifically the character portraits for the slime girl and the scientist guy.
I SEEE THAT RAINBOW
No Time Wasters?
Totally agree
need HoloCure here
I got tortured by the fact you took so long to present Nova Drift.
Thank you for "making" me buy it from Steam. I watched you play it and I really enjoyed playing it myself. Got to rank 60 and am now one of those people who slowly wait, play occasionally and subtedly complain about how slow Chimeric is at updating the game.
i feel like if u included atomic picnic u gotta include risk of rain 2 , srsly
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Project Lazarus.
Me waiting for nova drift 🥱
Why are there so many Reverse Bullet games on Pc, android and IOS and so few on console? 😢
Because porting to consoles costs money and time and the games were made on pc like most indies and the majority of them probably didn't make enough money to even consider porting in the first place. A fair few of these are definitely riding on Vampire Survivors success aka clones. Heck VS is just now coming to Switch but has been on xbox. That should tell u right there how porting the games over can be.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
It ain't last, since it's a category of its own, but I can see how everyone misinterpreted my joke.
@@wanderbots I understand, thanks for answering, could you search for the Game you released called DOOMSDAY HUNTERS, it would be great if you could do a gameplay of it, it's very promising
Nova drift is simply the best even if not directly comparable to the rest bullet heavens. The interesting combinations you can pull off in that game are way beyond the average scope.
Also you said that endless mode is generally bad for these games but Nova Drift only has endless mode and I think it can in fact work if done correctly!
well vampire servoors also has most if not almost alll the same stuff that nova drift has but it scales into the late, end and post game far better with there ememy dilfcaty curve far better then nova drift for taking aconut of endless by the way.
Nebula is a lot of fun but it seems like it's not getting any updates any more
Spellbook demonslayers?
moar dredge
I would also be interesting to have a video what makes other vampire survivor clones bad. Showing why you quickly bounced, what care attraction they miss, etc
You missed the point of there were no bad games here and he actually loves when a game feels finished just so you understand he will never make the video you described
The main "bad" those games face is that most are made by solo devs or teams with less than 5 people. Thus, I would avoid naming them "clones" and saying what is bad.
why did he put the new drift last if he has over 8k positive reviews on steam and only 200 negative?
Army of Ruin, did I miss something here? And we really need to be precise about what is twin stick and what is not twin stick. 20 minutes until dawn is twin stick. etc etc
It's really sad seeing Magic Survival being forgotten in the shadow realm after being the base of the whole genre
Army of Ruin missing!
That game is a literal snoozer for me. As in: I fell asleep playing it.
@@wanderbots i think the early release was very chill and good looking but yeah a bit too easy. Since they added lot of content and especially difficulty levels, i'm waiting for the final release and plan to start it over then.
@@ClementAugustin I might try it again, but that game truly had something up with the visuals that made my eyes impossible to keep open. No clue why, but it's largely the reason why it might never end up on any of my lists until that's fixed.
Sorry Wander, but clicked off as soon as you placed Vampire Survivor lol.
😮
The fact you didn't put Vamp Survivors at the very top is absurd to me. You considered it 'mid'. Honestly this tier list is mid
That's just your opinion, man. This is mine, and there's no reason to get heated over it.
@@wanderbots not heated. Just my opinion man
man, how can i be original with a ranking like that... Oh!!! I know!!! i will not put VS first so i'm sure to have some reactions
?
If VS was at the top this list would be invalid.
in comparison to a lot of the bullet heaven games that came out recently vs just isnt that great dude and if u disagree thats fine but no need to act as if everyone has to love it
VS did an amazing job in making the genre popular but honestly the game is meh compared to most bullet heavens
Yeah you just didn't watch the video or play any of the other games mentionned, did you? Vampire Survivor is great game, especially after all the updates it received, and it definitely is to thank for the existence of most of these games... But it's also by no mean the best in any category. It does good on all fronts, but is definitely not incredible.
