Speaking as an indie game developer, I would add that indie game developers are even more dependent on sales than AAA companies. Indies struggle to get media coverage and a steam sale is often their best way to get store page visibility.
Just like Content Warning (when it was released, it was free for the first 24 hours)?
Interesting.
What game are you developing? I'm curious
I guess it would make sense to pay full price for an indie game but not a triple AAA game then.
It's really funny how the indie games with genuine passion are like 10-20 bucks usually, meanwhile triple A titles... yeah.
Yeah only games I buy are indies even those are cutting my budget tight, I just pirate bigger games
5.99 taco bell bean burrito
ik what are you trying to say but you know big studios like ubisoft or rockstar games have like over 5,000 people in them that need money for eating and paying rent
the only triple a game I enjoyed this year was Persoan 3 reload
@@MalikATL Helldivers 2 is a triple A game right? If so thats been the only game for me this year lol despite all the shit thats happened
Insane that you didn't make a single piracy joke through the whole video, the self control in display is insane. Respect
I love pirating indie games :)

Doki Doki is free, but then you'll have to pay for therapy

actually the original is free because well it's the original, but you prob want to buy the improved versions of a game so ofc you are going to buy plus version (please do not nerd emoji me)

I got portal 2 on Xbox for 100 percent sale⊠Iâm pretty sure it was the gamepass discount mixed with a 90 percent discountâŠ
Don't you have to beat it like in 3 hours to be able to refund it or am I wrong
happened to a friend of mine except it was like 2 days after and he already spent like 4 hours on it. he did request a refund from steam and got his money back

The real way to "cheat the system" is not to buy games you will never play. That alone will save you hundreds, sale or not.
"Want what you have, not what you want" is the quote I live by for that.
Seconding this. Not every game that catches my eye is gonna be worth my time and money. My game collection is far smaller and I still get just as much enjoyment out of it!
@@cobbleddeepslate7606 For me, honestly it's based on price of the game and my interest in it. If I buy a game for $40 and end up enjoying it but not beating it, I don't really mind cause I can always go back and play it later
I hear so many people even my bf saying they have so many games they don't play, I buy a few games per steam sale or once in a while on PS store (but many ps games are from my local library with free 1 week borrows on almost every new game) and I only make sure to get the games I'll play. Even if I may not finish it immediately I will still make sure to play it before buying more. Why would I buy 10 games that caught my eye but never touch when I can get like 5 games that I know I will play til the next sale?
Damn, if this came out like one day earlier I might've not wasted my entire life savings!
Hehe, yea same
you can get a refund if you bought through steam, dont though gaben needs money for food
5.99 taco bell bean burrito
I mean if you bought the games on Steam there's literally a sale going on rn for most games
Deep Rock Galactic, Hollow Knight, and Risk of Rain 2 are probably the best purchases ive ever made in the history of Steam sales
i played drg for completely free from ps extra but i realised the game was so goddamn good i gave both of my friends money to buy it also, best decision ever now i can rock and stone with my friends

Also Vimm's Lair is an excellent method to play your old school games for free as well. I never get tired of my old PS1/PS2 collection.

Ok as someone who is basically now a sale expert (i'm a cheap ass), you are on point with some of these ways to buy games cheaper.
However, there are some parts that needs to be considered:
- First off, forget completely about Nintendo. They almost never put their games on sale and if they do, it's like 5% or something. BOTW came out 7 YEARS AGO and the cheapest I saw that game was like $40, that's insane. Same thing is happening with the souls games, thanks to the popularity of Elden Ring, they almost never got on sale, and if they do it's ass. DS3 for $40 in a sale for an 8 year-old game it's insane.
- Some deals got worse over the time. A lot of those indie games you showed were as dirt cheap as $1.50, like Spelunky and Super Meat Boy, but they never got s low as that, and the Valve complete pack was as cheap as $6. Not anymore.
-If you're REALLY that cheap ass (like me lol), there's sites called gg.deals and isthereanydeal where you can see in what places the game you want is cheaper, and they show you a history of the lowest price they've ever sold the game and when. Be careful by keysellers (G2A, cdKeys), and deactivate them on gg.deals so they don't appear, NEVER buy on keysellers.
-Be really careful with FOMO. Don't buy games on launch if you're scared of missing out the discussion of the popular game at the time with the rest of the internet. It's not worth it. If you REALLY want to play the game on launch, that's ok, but only if you have the money and you're completely sure the game doesn't suck and it runs fine. Be also careful with FOMO if there is a game that you want and is sold at a historical low, remember the games you already have in your library and try to finish that big ass backlog you probably have there.
- Second-hand games are always more expensive than buying the game on Steam, except if that game is console exclusive.
may i ask why cdkeys is bad? i know why g2a is because it's a marketplace and most of the keys are stolen and or aquired thru less than legal means, but cdkeys aint a marketplace or am i completely misunderstanding why it's bad?
ps. i'm not saying you're lying, i just am confused as to why they are bad and i'll stop using them if they are
Spelunky mentioned, didnât even read your comment but have my like
Its also wise to recomend against epic cause of the spyware and them selling your personal info passwords bank info etc as malware does
â@@NikNikTikTakwell there is the chance in theory that you get a bad code that is a scam. But i have used cd keys a few times and tried to see if its verified as some were from a previous sale so they were rebought from the dev. People like to give general advice because there is always a chance someone will not pay attention and risk getting scammed even if its a small chance. Like giving advice not to click random links on the internet. For spme its easiee than explaining how to be careful and letting you work that out. However i often try to give advice.
â@@NikNikTikTakin short alot of people like to listen to gesr say abd fesr the offchance atleast one attempt might be true.

I havent had issue with cdkeys personally. Just make sure you look over things first :)

the only thing that kinda sucks about buying bundles is over time you'll get games you already own, but on the bright side you can give your friends a free game!
Or sell the key online.
Yeah at one point I managed to get the Valve bundle for 3 dollars during one winter sale, steam is crazy man.
Foekoe spends the entire video explaining how to get cheap and free games, only to say "One of the best things you can do is buy the game at full price"
And he says that when talking about how to support the developers of the game
đ
And he ain't wrong

I've spent about $300 in the Steam Summer Sale and now I have over $1,000 in games that will take me 2 years to play through.
You guys need to play undertale yellow, it took 7 years to make, it was made by a small indie team, Itâs completely free and itâs super fun
I would also recommend emulating old games that you weren't able to purchase in your childhood, for example right now I'm having the time of my life playing the entire budokai tenkaichi trilogy.
we live in a world with countless numbers of fun free games, this hobby is not expensive whatsoever unless you don't enjoy anything that isn't trendy or is AAA
Foekoe:"Games are bound to have a sale eventually! " Hot dogs, horseshoes & hand grenades:" Nuh uh"
the problem with humble bundle is that it doesnât localize its prices, so often itâs the same price or even more expensive than buying all the games
Epic games is actually OP.
The entire Bioshock collection was free like 2 years ago and that is atleast 30 hours of really fun gameplay.
I don't remember when exactly it was but all the fallout games (except for 4 and 76) were also free.

The thing with bundles is that you have to think twice if you'll actually play the games or have time to play the games. 2:56 ricochet slander, unsubbing
The Legend Of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom was the last video game I have ever pay $70.00 dollars.
About a year ago, within TWO (maybe three now) years since making a Steam account, I discovered this to be a thing when my parents could not keep up with my video-game-collecting habits since I am still not allowed to drive which is why I planned-what THEY denied when I owned a Switch in 2017 for Christmas when Sonic Forces was released (lucky me...)-into investing digital games for convenience sake, especially on Steam, and this absolutely gave me a lot more to play for until I find a proper living despite recently edging it out on my savings through the Summer Sale by going with what *I* would like to play the most because I could not find a part-time job over the summer while still considering college and ONLY coming out of high school at the age of 20.
However, this does mean that I am (and always had) practically not legally allowed to buy games that are NOT on sale at least 50% off (worth varies) for until I get off from being a broker and not looking like a big spender, for what that is worth. Keep in mind that I currently own a mostly-manageable PC and Switch, and have considered owning a PS5 and Quest 3, so it could one day considerably go beyond the number of what Foekoe has on his Steam account COMBINED.
Speaking of which, I was going to make a joke at 3:11: Steam be robbing ME more than I could rob from THEM at the moment! I pretty much became the victim of the Summer Sale-twice in fact, both 2023 AND 2024-and my wishlist is still considerably huge (560+), ...mostly as half of them I counted do not get on sale to a considerable extent.
And one more thing to note is that I recently DID made a Itch account (...for no particular reason đ[really, not your usual one]) and found a THOUSAND more; and as it is stated, they are mostly free (as a lot of them are currently in development, as it turns out).
For anyone curious to see, my Steam account IS public and has the same name as this account. I will update my showcase when I complete more games! ...Eventually.
Thanks for showing the witness, a kinda forgoten masterpiece.

Didn't learn anything new, still enjoyed the video đ
The real way to save money is to "stay behind" in the gaming world, if you only buy games that are 5+ years old and wait for the summer or winter sales you can find games 70%-90% off, once $60 games going for $10 is how you really win. Just because a game is old doesn't mean it's bad.
Foekoe owns system shock 2, he's a real gamer
I am so glad to see someone that also got 1000 and more games and it's mostly because of humble bundle
HOW COULD YOU DO MY BOY RICOCHET DIRTY LIKE THAT
I've mentioned this in a previous comment, but I got Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Golden edition for the regular version price because some website still had the black friday sale after black friday. Don't remember what website it was because it was like a year ago or something, and I don't remember when it came out and when I got it.
thank you foeklore
Another way to look for a cheaper price on a game is to look for a bundle on the steam that includes games you may have already bought, since steam usually the prices on the bundle for the individual games are lower than the price displayed on the individual game
For example: if you buying a game that is usually $20 that just so happens to be in a double pack bundle that includes one game you own, you could by the bundle for $18 because your buying the game you dont own for the reduced bundle price
the yakuza collection sale is always such a beautiful event

YYYYEEEESSSSS, HE TALKED ABOUT THE WERECLEANER. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
here in Brazil, we have nuuvem, bro, usually lego games (which are pretty good) are always at, like, 80% discounts, not to mention things like the Elden Ring DLC releasing there already with discount
Honestly as someone who simply just doesn't get around to playing games right away, sales are absolutely my best way of getting the most amount of game for my money. But buying games at full price is good for those games that aren't just traditional triple a blockbusters or its a series you know needs support at full price, so it really just depends on how you feel like is most well spent to you
1:58 Redfall mentioned, here comes the peak :3

I have been doing these strategies for my entire life and I feel like at this point they have me on a hit list due to how much I've saved
reminds me of when i was gonna get a game and when i went to get it the entire series went on sale for below the original games price
God bless gaben and his sales
Does anyone know if games are purchased through humble bundle or other third party websites the game bought will still show up with other games bought through steam directly in the library?
Steam's sales are both insane and why Steam is a god-tier gamestore/launcher that can't be outclassed. See a game you like? Throw it on your wishlist, and then when a sale happens, Steam will email you, notify you on the steam app and even tell you within steam itself with a notification, "Hey, these games you put on your wishlist a few months ago are on sale - go buy 'em."
If you're impatient or unsure, you can look up exact big sale times (summer and winter sales are generally the biggest with the highest discounts) but honestly you don't even need to know sale dates - Steam will just tell you when they happen (and they usually throw in incentives to go looking for deals, like daily chat stickers for checking genres and cards exclusive to that sale for a special badge for Steam XP if you go through your queue each day).
Conker in the first second of the video im gonna go insane
