      @Lilltroll yeah, sort of. you have one who basically drove the breadwinner they relied on to abandon them (Konami), and the other parent who makes you do all of your chores only to tell you there is another chore to do.... 10 more times (Capcom releasing the same game with the smallest changes a dozen times calling them all totally new so you buy something you already own 95% of). That being said, they have probably made more games on my all time top fav than any other devs/publishers. Just said to see what happened to Konami and tired of Capcom's marketing strategies (not that they're alone but sine SFII ' they seem to have really made a habit out of that)

    I think the war between Capcom and Konami would continue on even to this day if it weren't for a series of really dumb and often baffling decisions by Konami in recent years. For that reason, I would say Capcom wins, as they at least continue to have working brains. Heck, they've probably been better than most at preserving their old titles in great compilations on current systems.

    • @quinnhofmann5399
      @quinnhofmann5399 Před 3 lety

      So true... what is Konami even doing now since they fired Kojima? They used to have a ton of awesome arcade and co-op action games in the 8-16 bit era but I feel like after they hit it HUGE with Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill they started neglecting their other franchises and projects. Honestly, I can't tell you what they have been doing since then or at all lately other than trying to recreate his IP without him or his team which would cause serious backlash and probably not live up anywhere close.
      Capcom is still making good games, but they still are doing what they have been since SFII and its ~ a dozen remakes. With them, if you want to play the game with all of the current and potential (guaranteed) future content, don't be surprised if you end up buying the same game 10 times, each with an extra character or 2, a few minor changes to a moveset, or stage backgrounds. You could wait, but if you play competitively at all (fighters being the most likely genre) you are going to be way behind in training your muscle memory and learning the new mechanics, etc. And its not like it was a sudden, unplanned bug that needed to be fixed, new characters added by popular request or buff/nerf them for balance purposes; they systematically roll out these minor changes and market them as entirely new versions of the game that need to be purchased as such. It should be either a free patch to fix if its a bug or let the character be bought on its own.
      TBH I don't even really like that second idea -- or expansion DLCs in general either. Devs and pubs should wait to release the game with all the planned content right away instead of forcing customers to gradually pay for "upgrades". Once they've created a dedicated player, of course they are going to want the chance to play the whole game and suddenly a new expansion takes away their 100% completion -- its like pushing drugs on an addict, you know it's hard for them to resist

      Yep. Konami probably owns more iconic IP, but they've been steadily going downhill for a decade or more. Capcom might not have quite as many recognizable properties, but they've consistently been a top-tier dev from the 80s to today without ever even having a major slump. That puts them in the very upper echelon of game devs.

    It seems like no one ever mentions Konami's 3D racing games. Most were arcade exclusives and victims of suicide batteries but they made really great stuff. They had Midnight Run, Winding Heat, the GTI Club series, the Thrill Drive series and best of all, the Racing Jam series. In fact I'd call the Racing Jam games the greatest forgotten racing games of all time.

    • @thefroyukenfiles3641

    • @Vectrex4Life
      @Vectrex4Life Před 5 lety

      Exactly, they never really had the foothold that the others had. But they were making some pretty unique stuff. Thrill Drive was an inspiration for the Burnout series and Racing Jam 1 was really the only arcade racer that ever had Gymkhana courses.

      @thefroyukenfiles3641 Před 5 lety +1

      This requires some CZcams research. Be right back!
      EDIT: I have returned with additional knowledge in arcade racers. Can definitely see where Burnout got its inspiration in Thrill Drive. It's a shame Konami's racing games aren't mentioned in the same breaths as the other companies I mentioned. They just arrived too late to the party while Sega and co. were wowing arcade goers for many years prior with their titles.

      Konami had some pretty cool sprite-based racers as well, like WEC Le Mans, Over Drive, and Racin' Force. Those last two aren't currently emulated, but WEC Le Mans is super underrated. It's pretty hard to get used to at first (at least for me) but once you know how to play it it's a really fun and intense game.

    I think Konami had a slightly better all around set of games from the 80's to mid 90's. They seemed to have more masterpieces (As a hypothetical example, out of any 10 Konami games, 7 or 8 would be masterpieces and 2 or 3 would be average whereas Capcom would have 6 or 7 masterpieces and 3 or 4 average games. This is obviously not scientific but my thoughts having grown up playing games during that time period). But Capcom kept putting out masterpieces and still are, whereas Konami hardly counts as a developer currently. So, for me Konami was the best but Capcom is the best.

    • @Bimmy_Lee
      @Bimmy_Lee Před 5 lety +3

      I'd say games that were developed by the company is all that matters. I was going to say developed and published by, but I believe Mega Man 6 was developed by Capcom and published by Nintendo at least in north america. That possibly had something to do with Nintendo's "5 game per year" policies back in the day which aren't a thing anymore from what I understand. Also, published by means a company had anywhere from 0% -100% to do with the game development (Like Mega Man 6 for instance, I believe Nintendo had 0% to do with development on that one), so publishing shouldn't count at all in this case.

    Capcom and Konami were both great companies that made awesome games during the prime of gaming. Both showed alot of love with the games they made and it showed. It's really hard to choose a side unless you like certain genres. Both companies seem to make any genre very well. Like how could they go wrong? I really enjoyed any game they would put out. As for me, I can't choose but I will say that I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons Shadow of Mystara from Capcom and probably rank that as my favorite. Konami would be the Castlevania series. But again it's hard when both companies showed their love on game creation. Konami left the love and abandoned everyone and Capcom hasn't but I feel the love isn't there as it once was. I would side with Capcom but just a very slight margin. Either way, I miss all the quality and love both companies used to make. It's all about the money now.

    • @DrVanNostrand01
      @DrVanNostrand01 Před 5 lety +1

      DDR was incredibly Niche (at least in the United States) and there was no revitalization of arcades in the early 2000s. Arcades were DEAD in the early 2000s, it wasn't until a few years later that we saw arcades starting to come back due to nostalgia. "BAR"cades did more to revitalize the arcade industry than DDR did.

    • @jokatech
      @jokatech Před 5 lety +2

      I disagree. This is a thankless generation. While it did have a finite period in time, I can attest to the power of DDR. It was literally a revolution. Discounting it for copycats is typical millenial tactics.

    • @DrVanNostrand01
      @DrVanNostrand01 Před 5 lety +1

      The only arcades that we’re around in the early 00s were places like Dave and Busters. Which are more similar to carny operations than traditional arcades imo. DDR was commercially successful, it was always seen as a gimmicky / casual game (at least amongst the hardcore gamers). Hence being more niche and it never really gained mass appeal in the US. It was mostly played in a party setting similar to guitar hero but never got as big. There were also games like Parappa the Rapper and Um Jammer Lammy which had an audience at the time and both were liked by critics. Power Pad > DDR dance pad haha

    • @Dj.D25

They're once again financially secure and once again one of the top tier gaming companies on the planet. 👍However, Konami is in a pretty shitty state. Poor business decisions ,creative differences, and crap games have devastated the once prolific company. I wouldn't be surprised if Konami only had $125 million in their bank right now.
