In today's video, I give you the three shooting drills that are probably killing your chances of becoming an elite shooter! By making sure you are avoiding these killer shooting mistakes you are automatically going to give yourself a better opportunity to increase your overall shooting percentage. By implementing these tips into your game you can almost immediately skyrocket your shooting!
My first drill that you should not do is one hand form shooting! I dive in and explain the reasoning behind why practicing a segmented shot can be extremely detrimental
to your shooting fluidity. I also give you some alternative drills you can use that actually promote one motion shooting.
My second drill I want you to avoid is elbow to elbow shooting! This drills is unfortunately just not very realistic to any in game shot you will actually get. In your training focus on training shots that you actually get in live game situations!
The last shooting drills you should try to avoid is casual shooting. When you are training your shot it's super important to play at game speed. Selling yourself short by going half speed can kill your shot in the long run!
Lastly Confidence is something we see in ALL of the great shooter's the best way to make sure you are a confident shooter is to make sure your shotmechanics are dialed in! So avoid these three killer shooting mistakes, and I promise you will become a lights out shooter in no time!

Agree 100%. I believe you should almost always be practicing like you're in a game. Your shot changes a lot from just shooting around to being exhausted and out of breath. The only time I am casually shooting is when I am working on the mechanics of my shot, then I go out and try to apply it during a work out. And I don't even really consider that casual.

One handed form shooting imo is beneficial for someone who just walked into the court, almost as a quick warm up...also one handed could be helpful for younger players that rely too heavily on their guide hands which could be messing with their shot

I see where you’re at, but the thing about the guide hand is that generally the issues are caused by something different…
If you don’t solve what’s actually the root cause of the guide hand issues, one hand form shooting won’t help much anyways.

Question, I see the basis for your analysis in 1 handed shooting, I myself am teaching this specific scenario as well, so what is the best route for players that cannot get situated with your off hand? I’m dominant Right handed (Student as Well), the issue I’m seeing over and over is his left hand creeps behind like a Chest Pass per say. I found it true that removing one’s hand would reassure the dominant hand and that guide hand is there to just guide. Definitely would love some feedback here, as again the issue goes back to a shot put push vs actual shooting with follow through and fingers. Ps keep up the amazing work ethic 💪🙏

I start my drill with around the world (key,mid,3pt) with different shot types in the mid. Then, 10 free throws. Then I go 35 but I add a 4th shot which is a step back to the three around the horn. Lastly, I have a list of moves that I go around the 3pt with (15 right now plus each hand). 10 free throws after making all those shots. These are all shot I have taken in game as well but endless you are a great shooter or have 2 hours on your hand, probably not the best thing to do lol.

A dumb drill is doing one that does not relate to your sport of interest such as a balarina doing bench presses. All those drills that you singled out are very helpful in basketball. What is wrong, not dumb is how one does them. How else would you teach a player to hold the ball properly with his or her palm facing the basket, elbow in, L-shape between the upper and forearm, and adding the offhand (guide) without blocking the shooting window? Tossing the ball and shooting from the key elbow during practice does not literally mean it is worthless because a player will not get a chance to shoot the ball from that exact spot. Emphasing that the same mechanics apply to shooting the ball other spots is the problem. The only valid point in this clip is the intensity of execution a drill.
You want a player to execute each drill trying to come as close to the game speed as possible (be quick, but don't hurry) to max success. Highlight a drill and gives your subscribes pointers on how to do the drill better, not discouraging them from doing the drill all together.

The drills your'e saying are dumb are FUNDAMENTAL drills everyone should be practicing before doing "two dribble snatchbacks". If you can't make an elbow shot catch and shoot why practice the harder ones? One hand shooting is actually the best and setting up your shot. The guide hand goes on the side of the ball its not that complicated.

50 years of coaching and you talk like this "spits a lot of BS." One hand form shooting is a tool to get a new player from step A to B in developing a full shot mechanic. It has its place, but is limited, which I agree with Shot Mechanics. Have you seen coaches who yell at players and treat the game like it is a life and death situation? "Spits a lot of BS" makes you sound like one of those coaches.

BUT all the three things he complained about are not bad ways to warm up and also it depend on age and skill level of the person training.
