      Literally thousands of hours of awesome stuff on CZcams. You just gotta put in the effort and find it…but yeah I love Game Night too.
      My recommendation…CGP Grey, Wendover Productions, Jacob Geller. That’s just three creators to start.

      This post is the explainer for my lazy, bonhomie joke I am mercifully spared to write. Casey gets it! Funny meeting such people in an esoteric hobby video channel chat and getting that bit of insight. Get it?

    Thanks for the video!
    Decathlon (or Reiner Knizia's Decathlon) is the game that reminds me most of High Score, although each of seven round's rolling rules and scoring goals are determined randomly instead of the same set of ten events.
    I've preordered High Score through my FLGS a few months ago, though I heard it may be a while until it will be available states-side; could be a 2023 release, I dunno. But I'm very eager to own and give this a go! :D

    So, I just get home from work, fire up the computer, and lo and behold - a new video from the GameNight gang! I can't think of a better start to the evening than that, and obviously everything else is put on hold until I've seen their latest offering.
    And what an offering it is too, a dice chucking contest! Anyone who knows me will tell you, nothing can put a smile on my face quite like throwing dice, so this one's right up my street.
    So yet another game to add to my wants list, and a great and fun video to show it off... excellent!
    One other thing, if I should ever open a casino in Vegas, Lincoln is automatically banned from the craps table. 😂

    Nice quick game. Feels like it would be cool if you could create a round from 3 decks of cards: a rule for the vortex, a rule for the rolling and a rule for the scoring, rather than having the specific predefined configurations for rounds. I guess it's been tested and balanced with the rules already as they are though.

    There are in fact 21 cards in the deck so in true RK precision, you can play 3 games in a row with every card!

  • @scottjacoby2594
    @scottjacoby2594 Před 2 lety +3

    Amazing game concept! I personally would have liked to see completely customizable cards, though. Like, have 3 decks of cards. 1 vortex deck, 1 roll deck, and 1 score deck and therefore you can mix and match the roles.
    The only downside is there may be some combinations that contradict each other.

    • @issa496
      @issa496 Před 2 lety

      I feel like this would lead to unbalanced not fun combinations

    I noticed, that some cards hat a minus in front of the number and the red color in the upper left corner, but other cards only had red color with a number for the vortex. And both are counted as minus. Was just wondering why that one last card had that minus?
    But cool little game - might put that into the easter nest for the family

    • @Endeva09
      @Endeva09 Před rokem +2

      On the 17:12 card, Vortex is worth 10, but this is bad. The rules of that card are - you must keep at least 1 dice per roll. Only 5 3 1 count, and any other value is subtracted at the end. Note that the Vortex area is coloured Red to designate that Vortexes are bad. The idea on this card is that you do not want to roll any Vortexes, as the value is fixed at 10 and any value that is NOT 5, 3 or 1 will be subtracted off your score after your rolls. It is not designated as -10 because otherwise that would be + + minus -10. If you minus a minus its a plus. The best possible roll on this card is 35 (7x 5).
      On the 21:30 card, Vortex is worth -5, you may roll up to 4 times, but you must roll all 7 dice, and the total face value counts. Again, Vortex has a Red background to designate on this card that it is bad, you do not wish to roll any Vortexes. Again, you're basically trying to roll 7x 5's for a score of 35.

    Just watched this again. Could someone please let me know what the game mentioned in the End Discussion is? Lincoln called it 'Dice Olympics", and Dave then called it 'The Dice ???' The last word isn't clear to me, it isn't coming up on the subtitles, and I'm really curious to know what it is.
    Thanks everyone.

      That's it but the spelling is Extra and was redone as Excape and Rapido, which just came out in Germany and France from Game Factory. It is one of my favorite games but not everyone enjoys the chaos of the dice. Thanks for the note and for watching-Lincoln

    So the card at 17:12 doesn't show a "-" in front of the vortex points, but the card at 21:30 does. Is that a printing error?

    • @moyinguis
      @moyinguis Před 2 lety +1

      Noticed the same thing. I think it’s because the - didn’t fit because of the two digit number and they wanted to keep the same font size which is wrong.

    • @Endeva09
      @Endeva09 Před rokem +2

      The card is printed correctly. On the 17:12 card, Vortex is worth 10, You must keep at least 1 dice per roll.
      On the 21:30 card, Vortex is worth -5, you may roll up to 4 times, but you must roll all 7 dice, and the total face value counts. Again, Vortex has a Red background to designate on this card that it is bad, you do not wish to roll any Vortexes. You're basically trying to roll 7x 5's for a score of 35.

  • @theunamiable
    @theunamiable Před 2 lety +1

    Why is a vortex worth -10 at 16:26 (without a minus sign), but -5 at 19:59 (with the minus sign). Is it just the colour? Seems weird.

    • @boardgamegeek
      @boardgamegeek  Před 2 lety +1

      Red is minus. I'm not sure why they don't have a minus on the card. Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln

    • @aba_dab_o
      @aba_dab_o Před 2 lety +4

      The background color of the vortex value section indicates if the dice showing vortexes are good or not. Green is good/neutral, red is not really good.
      16:26 - Each vortex is valued at 10, BUT you are scoring positive points for odd numbers (1, 3, 5) and then subtracting points for everything else (2, 4, vortex=10). Here, rolling vortexes are part of everything else; each rolled 2 subtracts 2, each 4 subtracts 4, and each vortex subtracts 10. Hence its red background.
      19:59 - Each vortex is valued at -5, and all dice are scored (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, vortex=-5). Since the vortex scores negative 5 points, it has a red background indication.
      It's a kind of that "subtracting a number is the same as adding its opposite" fun algebra stuff. That mathematics touch Dr. Knizia brings to his games.
      Hope this helps! :D

    Clarification. Players who do not achieve a positive score cannot receive a point chip.
    In the video you say only a negative score cannot win a medal. But a 0 would also not win a medal as it is not a positive score.
