đŚ
Einstein Parrot is a very talkative African Grey Parrot! He lives with us in our home in Texas and was hatched on June 15, 1997. Einstein is a silly, smart, and popular parrot who loves to talk and entertain! He is famous for his impression of Matthew McConaughey, ( ⢠Einstein thinks Matthe... ) NOT the "Einstein" that was featured on the TV show Animal Planet. He likes to talk on various "parrot approved areas" in our home, such as the kitchen drawer, the shower, kitchen chairs, napkin holders, and of course his play perches! Einstein has brought much joy to our lives, but training and living with a parrot requires time, patience, and sacrifice.

When I was home with bronchitis, my grey kept saying, âHey Hon? â He repeated it for hours. Finally I said, âWhat?â And he said, âAre you OK?â I almost fell off the couch. I said, âYeah Iâm OK.â After that he didnât ask me again. People think parrots just repeat or mimic what they hear - that there is not a real intelligent process behind it. That proved to me that they do associate words with situations - even if itâs one they havenât experienced before. They are very smart.
They are very smart and should not be underestimated.
well yeah, theres response and feedback.
when they say "Give peanut" they well... get a peanut. they notice that stuff.
Greys have the intelligence of a 5 year old and the emotional maturity of a 3 year old. I had one I used to have conversations with. She only told me one time " I love you" . It was on mother's day. I hand raised her from a half grown baby. I was experienced with parrots. If I could tell you about a male grey I had without crying , I would. You would be crying too though. I've got tears in my eyes. Gotta stop. He had a fatal disease when I got him but I didn't know. And a small new appliance burning off fumes that I didn't expect ,killed my girl. These guys require lots of knowledge to care for successfully. I miss my greys so much.
My bird does too. I always observe that he makes the corresponding sound [and words] with the corresponding emotion. They learn language and means of communication that really works. It's especially apparent when you live alone because you really develop a relationship with your bird.
Awesome đ
I had a friend whoâs parrot would say âI can talk can you flyâ it was great

One thing a lot of people don't realize is that African greys actually have cognitive language skills. They have the ability to not just repeat words, but understand their meaning as well.
@ C Lescell .....No they don't have cognitive language skills.
It is a smart bird in the world of birds but it is not smart in the true sense of the word. Someone says it is pointing with its foot when it mentions squirrels but it isn't. It is a typical body language of parrots to do that.
It is just mimicking, not thinking up language. Anyone who thinks it is anything more is not in full possession of their own brain....(so on that level, the bird might be smarter than those people...maybe). He is no more thinking a thought and verbalising that thought, than a computer does. Both need human input first.
If he can solve problems and obey directions, then that would be smarter than just speaking. Crows are smarter in that respect.
Don't get me wrong. It is a lovely bird and very cute and entertaining, but it is just a recording machine.
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 even apes cant grasp language as well as a small child does. Plus apes never ask why, only humans do that
True. My Grandpa had one that would prank people and laugh. It would imitate his exact voice and give a command like him. And then run off laughing.
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 agree and itâs called âparroting!â But it is fascinating how well he âparrotsâ his humans, none the less.. đ
@@Ojthemighty no one ever taught them how. Humans dont learn it on their own
A friend took in an African Grey after his neighbor passed away and the bird started speaking like the dead person. Scared the hell out of him
You mean he was speaking to the dead, like a medium. That's badass..
Yeah, they mimic the voices they're used to hearing.
You can tell his owner is super sweet and loving and teaches this bird a lot. He even knows his colors!
He doesnât use âfowlâ language. I appreciate that polite bird
He does blow a few cheeky raspberries though!!!
You can tell that the owner only said good words to this bird đŚ love it.
Exactly. It reminds me of certain types of autism,in that they only repeat what they hear , he's only learned sweet things. Good parent!

"Shake your butt, it's alright. Don't be scared" đ¤ŁI laughed hard at that one!
It's not just his speech, it also shows what an unbelievable memory this bird has.
It basically has a register that plays like a recorded tape.
@@lamrof m
Really good memory - parrots can remember multiple sentences after only hearing them once, such as the parrot who was an actual witness!
I am pretty sure they understand things such as colors and food names, especially when they are properly taught in a way that it doesnât confuse them - when a being sees or hears a word associated with the thing or action that it reflects multiple times, one automatically learns it, whether one is a humân or a parrot, and itâs the same way humâns learn, by imitating the words they hear associated with certain items or actions multiple times, humâns wouldnât be able to speak or understand anything if others wouldnât have taught them little by little with a lot of repetition and association of certain words with certain things or actions, and some parrots have the vocabulary of children, and it also depends on the parrot, because certain parrots are really smĂĄrt and have better comprehension skills and better memory than most parrots, as are certain dogs, for example, the dog who has always been loyal to me only was never trained and is naturally smĂĄrt and unlike other dogs!
It would be nice if someone tried teaching the smĂĄrtest parrots the alphabet and the names for fruits and the colors etc and how to say when theyâre hungry or thirsty and the numbers!
Itâs not that Einstein talks so amazingly well, but he also uses his body in an expressive way. He really is astounding.
I think his Crystal clear pronunciation, his voice characteristics and his body expression are amazing

The crazy thing is that the parrot even knows her voice.
Once I went to a bird specialty store- Iâd never been in there or seen parrots up close before. I heard a worker say, âHello!â But I couldnât see her. I said hello back and was looking around. It wasnât until later that I realized the only worker there was a man, and the person who said âHelloâ was actually one of the parrots. It freaked me out so bad, because it sounded exactly like a person! Was not expecting them to sound like that.
Heâs like a sound box. Not only does he talk, he does sound effects, barks when he says dog, sounds an alarm. Incredible. He had so many different voices too. Am he even talks with his hands.

He must be an Italian African Grey!
Have you noticed that he also mimics running water đŚ?! 𤯠I wish I could do that
I love all birds, however and African Grey totally amazes me!
I love how the bird chirps right after to say âhow was that?â
Someone showed that bird a lot of love and care! Heâs so happy and engaged. Him imitating the dog was so cute.
The way he mimics the sound of water is insanely amazing
Yes!!
I noticed how Einstein plays, not only with the combinations of words, but also with the tone, pitch, and emphasis he places within each. It also seems that he tends to group words in like associations. For example, 'wet', 'drink', 'water', and the water sound are grouped together, animal identifiers, both names and sounds are grouped together. He even groups the comforting words together, 'it's alright', 'don't be scared, and 'are you okay?'. Pretty smart bird, Einstein!
He also uses more words that are relating to his environment, such as kitchen words like food, good morning and what he wants to eat. In the bathroom he uses more water words. In the office he talks about computer. He"s truely amazing.
They are like mini-conversations or mini-stories.
I read a lot of these comments and they are all true, What I particularly liked the most is he was taught not only to be a nice bird, but there is no CUSSING. That is brilliant. Because that's all you see these days is CUSSING birds and while video tapping the owners of the birds act like," that is a very bad bird, don't cuss bad bird"It's disgusting that in itself is sooo fake! Where else are these birds going to learn bad words besides from they're owners? Maybe in rare cases like the original owner had passed away or went to prison, something like that, but very seldom right? These birds in most cases learn it from their owners, Everybody laughs, They get attention. These poor birds correlate cussing attention cussing peanuts or cussing food cussing attention. What I'm trying to say is I like the birds that are intelligent with no cussing so my hat is off to you good job I really like this bird I don't know how to say and so many words but you are like so far the best one that I've seen teaching the birds the right way again good job.

Greys are notorious feather pickers. This is a well-adjusted, healthy bird!! You are obviously a great bird mom!
I saw a documentary regarding parrots & the African Grey was amazing! He was "potty trained" so that when he was not caged, he pooped in a pie tin. He would then instruct the other birds, who were not African Greys, to "go potty in the pan" (or some variation of the pan....I cannot recall if he used pie tin exactly). The documentary said that Greys are as intelligent as dolphins & dogs. The documentary did state however that parrots can be destruction if they are neglected & some of them will even pull out their own feathers....obviously that was devastating to see. Such beautiful, intelligent & social creatures. I cannot have one due to my allergic reaction to feathers. Bless these people who share their beautiful animals with us.
What a feathery chatterbox.
I love parrots, regardless if they donât understand what they are saying. Their echolalia is very entertaining.
Considering the size of his mouth and throat, it's amazing how well he enunciates each word, and how human-like he sounds.

He does SO MANY DIFFERENT voices, it is amazing!
A friend of mine had an African Gray she kept at her shop in town. She could teach him to say anything with in a day or two, but it was always in her voice. He wouldn't mimic anyone else. When she retired she brought him home. Her husband had a very deep voice and over the course of the first year home he switched to the husband's deep voice for everything and picked up new words and phrases only from him.

Hard to think that was ever an insult, but I remember it well. Haven't heard it in a while, though.
African Greys are truly fascinating! They have been shown to have a cognitive level of a 4-6 year old human!
Itâs been shown in experiments that grey parrots can learn number sequences and can learn to associate human voices with the faces of the humans who create them. It has also been reported that grey parrots are capable of using existing known English words to create new labels for objects which the bird does not know the name. For example "banerry" ("banana" + "cherry") for "apple", "banana crackers" for "dried banana chips" or "yummy bread" for "cake".
In addition to their striking cognitive abilities, grey parrots have displayed altruistic behavior and concern for others. Researchers found that while blue-headed macaws were unlikely to share a nut with other members of their own species, grey parrots would actively give their conspecific partner a nut, even if it meant that they would not be able to get one themselves. When the roles are reversed their partners would return the favor! This shows they can act selflessly and reciprocate gifts! There is so much more but they are truly some incredibly smart birds!

This is such an amazing example of what African Grey's are truly capable of and is exactly why I love mine so much... Their intelligence level is off the scales, mines name is Rains Fall (like the Native American from the RDR2 game, as I loved that name and am Native American myself) and he loves to sing, especially the song "Love Me Tender" by Elvis and then for some unknown reason he picked up the lyrics of "Rockin Robin" and has his moments where he thinks he's a DJ because he mixes the Love Me Tender and Rockin Robin together lol.... Such amazingly talented/intelligent and beautiful parrots!! If you notice they pick up the tone of the voice that teaches them those lines which is what causes so many different voice impressions from them.
