550s feel more saturated when you’re surrounded by fashion culture in all of your online interactions. However going outside and actually paying attention to the footwear, you rarely really see 550s in public. It might be a case of the internet culture being so in your face that it feels like the whole world is doing this thing, when in reality it’s all a small group of people that you’ll scarcely see in public. I know where I live all I see are Jordan’s and dunks
I completely agree with you, I live in a smaller town and I still have yet to see 550’s but have seen some Jordan’s and dunks
Great point tbh
Agreed. I've heard it is actually super saturated with 550s in NYC but I live in southern california and barely see them compared to dunks. If I go to a mall or something I'd see 10-15 panda dunks before I see a single 550
i live in Auckland, NZ and see then quite often tbh !
@@fadul9991 I live in Wisconsin 😂
I personally think fashion as a whole is in a great space. All styles are being mixed and matched more than ever.
Agreed
more room to express and be a bit more campy then before. like there are less “rules”
Nah men aren’t dressing strong or masculine. They are dressing sloppy, immature and very unmasculine .
i didn’t realize this until recently but koreans have been ahead of the curve for a long time now. they’ve been rocking clogs, mules, and parachute pants for years already and they’re just now becoming a trend in the US. source: i’ve been living in korea for 6 years and see that stuff on the subway and in the street all the time
What do you see now on the streets? Hahahaha
They set the trends for the rest of the world.
My favorite trend this year has to be the rise of crochet wear/handmade aesthetics. Whether it’s bode, cmmm swwmdn, harago, or small start up brands I’ve been put on to so many cool things because of the trend. The whole aesthetic is so wearable and simple but very complex in materials and stuff so it’s a beautiful contrast.
O yeah and drew you need to watch aqua teen hunger force.
BODE is really hitting the right spot atm for that slow fashion aesthetic thats really coming up as an alternative aesthetic option to the bad beesh look (though it does have crossover). The slow fashion aesthetic knits well with the quilting, its just *chef's kiss*
Do you mind sharing some of the other start up brands? Really love the aesthetic of Bode but realistically the prices are out of my range.
@@ginolovesu lot of good finds on etsy.
I love this trend too! I’ve always been into crochet and knitting so now I can wear my stuff out without people calling me a granny 😅 it’s also much more sustainable if you try making your own pieces/buy directly from artists because there’s less mass production and you can choose natural fibers
I think the 550’s really brought a more mature and sleek look into the spotlight while still being casual and well, a sneaker. It pulled people out of their dunks/jordan’s phase and yeah you see them a lot but the fact that the shoe blew up like it did shows how good the design is.
I really like that sambas are in rn. I grew up playing soccer. Elementary, middle school, outside of school etc, damn near everywhere lol. I always saw people rocking sambas and wanted a pair but never got any. Seeing them turn into something trendy is something that I’ve actually liked.
Soccer kid here, too! I never had a pair growing up, so I snatched them up when I started playing again as an adult.
I’ve been wearing Sambas since I was a kid in the mid 90s. Hard to believe that Sambas are “trendy” considering the shoe has been around for over 50 years and is ultimately timeless.
its so hard to tell what the “trends” are in real life. i agree with everything you say in the video as i see it all in social media all the time but in my every day life i see it not so much. i work in a mall and all i see are kids wearing shorts the length of underwear and fitteds. and a lot of crocs.
In my opinion, the "trends" we've been seeing are the antithesis of what trends normally are. Things like the sambas, new balances, birkenstocks, workwear, vintage, and high quality basics have become trendy, but in the best way possible because those pieces are legitimately timeless. In 2016 the trendy items were things that clearly were not going to last, but I feel like everything that is mainstream right now are things that will still be appreciated and still in the mainstream fashion landscape 20 years from now which is really unique.
I think all trends feel longlasting when they are popularised, but few actually are
the examples OP gave have always been popular however, in way or another these pieces have been part of a lot of closets. in 2016 the wave of boost sneakers and new hype brands that few people had heard of or worn before then were what the trend was.
Well put!! I agree with you:) There is certain minimalism and focus on flattering silhouettes in many trends today that I feel can really last (at least for me personally)
I think a lot of it is also that money's tight right now. The pandemic has kept a lot of us careful with how we spend our money on clothing. Going vintage, taking a look at more timeless pieces is a really good thing, but also a sign of the times I think.
@@Lisa-qt4hh i know what you mean, but I feel like those trends of simple sleek clothing are going to be our granny uniform for when our generation gets there 😂
agreed 550s kind of give me the saturated vibe that the panda dunks do
I still think that they’re a really nice and easy to wear shoe even though they’re saturated. I’m a bit biased though, I own 2 pairs lol.
Panda's are in their own realm bro, literally everyone and anyone can get their paws on that.
Yeah unless their the ALD’s I’m not rocking them lmao
@@Nhxn_ ba dum tss
I’m so thankful that headphones are popular now. I used to be embarrassed to wear them because nobody did but regular earbuds hurt my ears. I’m also loving the diversification of style. It’s easier to experiment with style and add artistic touches to your outfits now without people thinking it’s weird, even in my little suburban town. just a few years ago when I did that people would laugh. Everyone is appreciating personal style a little more
I hate how fast trend cycles are going and consumerism but I think the plus is that it’s going so fast that hopefully soon trends won’t matter anymore, nobody can keep up without buying something new every week
Actually I kinda think it’s become a competition to see who has the most “personal style” to an extent and I hope that goes away, but we’re moving in the right direction?? Maybe
For me the one trend that I find interesting is the increase in chunky y2k skate shoes. Having grown up wearing shoes like DC's, Es, Osiris, Nike SB, etc... I find it interesting how popular they have become. I feel like in 2022, I have seen more and more brands hopping on this trend. its a double edged sword for me. When I was younger, I 100% got clowned for wearing bulky skate shoes, but now, the same people that were making fun of me for it then, are the ones wearing it now. Although its cool to see them get recognition, I don't like the crowds it has attracted.
I just wish they had kept up with the quality of shoes from the 90s tho. The mscf gobstomper shoes are infamously bad quality in terms of stitching, its a real dissapointment
fashionroadmans' take on the fashion community is the most accurate depiction I've ever seen. It really is hard to have any conversation or to even state your personal opinion with some people due to their lack of self awareness or hierarchy approach to something as simple as fashion. It shouldn't have to be that way.
@@benobrien9223 indubitably.
For an oldie, the comeback of the parachute pants are kinda shocking in a way. I remember seeing these when I was in high school and also remember it got bigger and bigger as the trend went on. It got to the point where there was a way to origmi your ridiculously huuuuge pants to make a backpack out of them. I thought it looked ridiculous and I still think it is.
As another commenter said I feel fashion influencers and culture online show way more love to New Balance than what I actually see people wear in the wild (for teenagers/anyone under 30). All my friends who dip into sneaker culture are 99% nike/Jordans when it comes to looks. Adidas, new balance, puma, reebok etc in my small scope of shoe fashion are more for functionality, e.g. running shoes and daily beaters.
I guess this is the toxic side of TickTock and fashion these days, there’s always the hype followed by the inevitable backlash to the hype , and the backlash to the backlash. Respect to those still rocking the Chelsea boots from 2015 (at least getting your moneys worth) We are so fickle and I hate it.
I don't think Chelsea boots are out fashion. Maybe not in abundance like they were a few years ago but like bomber jackets, many consider them timeless classics.
I’m so happy that CZcams is my main social media experience. I can’t imagine having to see all these trends and cores every other week. Especially since I (90s baby) remember all of these trends when they were just clothes/things not aesthetics. Cores used to be unspoken and a way to show your personality and signal your subculture.
the "everything is trendy so nothing is" has two sides, the optimistic side you pointed out which is diversification of styles which is great and caters to more people and different proportions and aesthetics, but it's also the question of whether the trend cycle has sped up to the point it basically doesn't exist--still too early imo to know, but both points are valid I think
bingo
I absolutely love this video!! I’m definitely feeling the same way about how the fashion industry can be and seem so toxic I’m stills trying to discover and accept my style and what I wear and go according to what I can afford vs spending to much just to keep up with others. I really appreciate this video thanks so much.
Loved this video, touched upon a lot of points I could really relate too and brought some new trends to my attention, love your personality and way about saying things and even uplifting people who choose to express themselves through fashion ❤️❤️❤️
Drew, your desire to talk about the big picture trends in fashion’s attitude and effects on people are so important! I’m all for learning about styling trends but once people get involved they need to get informed about the kind of environment they’re entering as well as how to make it healthier. Love to see you highlighting rose anvil and tfa!
My favorite funny show is new girl:) I feel like you’d also resonate with Master of None though!
Master of none is going to be added to my list right now! Thank you
hey Drew, I think this is one of my favorite videos of yours from recent memory. I think it’s very interesting to get some analysis on trends as they’re ongoing. It would be great to have this be a regular type of video every season or so, to analyze whatever is currently trending and hear your thoughts on them.
I think it’s very interesting how many trends make their way from womenswear to menswear. You can see how it happened with the current mulement, even going back to ~2017/18 “everlane” type women’s style and making its way over to more menswear aesthetics in 2021/22. I’m certain the same will happen with parachute pants (and other current women’s trends) as you allude to here.
I agree with your take on the 550. They also remind of how the NMDs became. It seems to be going that trend.
Shit got played out real quick
totally agree with your "biggest trend of 2022". I've always dressed differently than my friends and as a kid, i used to get a lot of flack about it. Comments about my sexuality were always the underlying sentiment of what people were saying. So great to see that there's much more diversity out there nowadays!
550’s are Fila Disruptors for guys
My least favourite trend recently has to be y2k, I think it's a mix of being far from the styles I wear and a feeling that it only exists because it's a trend. I don't know how it is in America but in the UK it has been a flood of poorly made products that I know will end up in one of three ways: ruined as its so badly made, thrown as soon as the trend is over or thrown by the suppliers as they've made far too much of it. I know this is true of all trends to some level but y2k has cuts I just can't see fitting nicely with anything but y2k so people won't keep it past its trend date.
It’s because many people who were younger at that time like it for the nostalgia factor. It was bad fashion then and it is bad fashion now, but it was a fun time for many of us. Def happy seeing some old pics instead of bringing those styles back 😂
I love your post vid vids, it creates so much introspection and adds a nice sense of connection between us as viewers and you as a creator... continue with the amazing content !!
The parachute pants comes from the 90’s - 2000’s everyone wants to look like bratz dolls. I think it's a cute super hip hop style. I noticed they are pushing the 60-70’s style especially in Paris and it's so exciting the bell bottom pants and fun colors. Everyone should be able to express their own style and fashion! And it's always great to see trends because it would be so hard to separate the years. It gives the year flavor. But no one should feel like they have to conform to trends, it should be an option not a rule.
I completely agree with you. There is no good reason to look down on people!!! Love your message 🤠
This man’s videos are so calm and amazing keep it up bro loving the content a lot and hope to see you grow
love your energy man! Been watching your channel since last year and what an amazing growth!
Thank you for bringing up the struggles of being above 6”2 and finding pants that fit inseam wise. Would love to see a video with solutions for this problem.
Being 6'2" and finding pants isn't hard, but being 6'2" and finding pants with long enough inseam but a waist that you don't have to hold up with a belt is hard. I feel like most clothes are made for big buff dudes but I am just a tall lanky ass.
@@high54every16 true, it’s easy to find trousers where the waist is way bigger then the inseam but never vice versa
Still looking for it myself
@@high54every16believe me man i’m 6’3’’, tall and bulky but my fat-ass thighs make it genuinely hard to find anything that fits :/
This is so well done thank you so much!!!
Fyeah with your fashion attitude!!!! Thank-you!!
Great video man
As a Baltimore native I was happy to see NB become popular ,but annoyed as well it reminded me of how Nike SB faded & blew back up & people spiked the price for resale
I agree that fashion lacks that positive attitude that so many other communities have. Everyone is so pretentious and worried about other people.
The adidas sambas were a shoes that i’ve loved and have had since i was a child, it was so nice to see adidas provide us with so many variations with style and now seeing more people wear them
A nice and real video. And especially that about fashion ppl and industry. Keep up!
Loved the video. Btw I am over 6 foot and i wear parachute pants. I also had issues finding parachute pants that were long enough but I finally found some Urban Outfitters. You can get them in Length 34 which is good for our height.
Ahhh!! My first time watching you and this is just what I’ve been looking for!! I LUV
It’s funny watching you big up new balance to now out growing it. I don’t mean that negatively, it’s very cool to see people’s tastes grow and change.
I dont know if I’ve truly outgrown it, but my tastes are changing
subbed like the way you talk and the vibe is cozy
most of the your takes I basically agree with
Im so glad people are finally finding individual style ❤️
love it dude
My style has evolved into a mixture of “Bell boys” and “unsoundrags”.
I love all these trends even if I don’t participate in most of them.
Started to get a lot into cowboy boots since I’m in Mexico and you can find quality cowboy boots here.
Cowboy “aesthetic” is what I believe 2023 will continue with. I see Korean fashion gravitate towards a Texan cowboy style. I believe others will follow as it’s already rising in the US.
#PVV I always rewatch boondocks every year !
I definitely agree with you, I've been seeing cowboy fits everywhere man
Love ur videos keep it up!
about clogs; I took a short trip to Copenhagen in July, and noticed a lot of the locals rocking Boston's, and I feel like these types of places have been wearing them casually out and about for so many years, we're starting to see that flood into other countries etc.
I still enjoy my 550’s. It’s hot outside so low top shoes are great for the summer.
they’re a clean shoe fr but to me they’re just the AF1 of New Balance. super clean tho
Well said, Drew. For real, I would have to agree that the best trend is everyone developing a more.... overlapping style. I am seeing so many kits that are a mix of 2-3 things that would've formerly only been worn with other techy gear, or workwear, etc.
Cool vid Drew. Personally my favorite trends are cuban collars, pleated pants, & mules. Interesting take on the diversification of fashion in 2022. It's something I've noticed but never really thought about. Hopefully this leads into 2023 and people become even more individual and less clones of everyone else
Cuban collars are fire bro
Great message near the end, couldn’t agree more ❤️➡️
bro i've been following you on tiktok for a while now, just wanna say that ur style is cool, especially your pants and denim collection! U've helped me a lot in finding my own style, u were the first ppl i looked up to so thanks a lot!
Another killer video mate!
Love the message about fashion positivity brother
I love the amount of creators you reference in this video
Great vid my guy
I love the rose anvil videos, they are a really good reference to know when you are buying a quality product.
I see you from Chile you make a really good content ❤
finally scored my pair of acs pros in all black. Kind of nice seeing them be not as popular as xt-6 so people who really want them have the chance to get them. Congrats on another great vid!
Just recently picked up the white pair and have been wearing them daily such a great shoe
First time coming across your channel I love the vibes had to subscribe 🫡
Individuality isn’t just the best trend of 2022 it’s the best trend for ever year! Be yourself & have fun with it ❤
I like what I’m seeing in this vid especially at the end about @people in fashion”. Deserved a sub 🥳
Love the vid, some funny tv (with fun costume design!): Seinfeld (the amount of episodes that revolve around items of clothing may shock you lol), the nanny, pushing daisies
Another dope video dude. I'm going to start listening to the podcast this week!
#PVV: The funniest tv show I have seen has to be Community
Unexpectedly positive and wholesome towards the back end of the video there!
Great video
Really enjoy the playfulness and the deconstruction of fashion norms that we're seeing now! Love to see creativity, expression and innovation. The only thing that *sometimes* bothers me is when the pretty and skinny privilege comes through in that approach to fashion. I do wonder if certain fits would be considered unsophisticated, random or mid on other body types. For example, Bella's iconic fit with the racer leather jacket, briefs and uggs. Just a thought! x
You highlighted a key factor in todays fashion and it’s body type and yea it’s hard to pinpoint the exact issue but I think it’s that it works really well for some then others. Like thrifting just my size in general is all picked over because an l/xl is oversized for A LOT of people. Just an observation
I’ve been wearing a headset for the past 10 years purely because of the sound experience and noise canceling. I’m positive when seeing it becoming “popular” and “trendy”. I do think it’s a cool accessory and to look unbothered 🤣 greater video as always Drew!
I have to admit my favourite trend this year is the throw back to older fashion, the thrifting , the shoes , the clothes it’s just awesome to see fashion going back in time because there’s some really nice pieces
isn’t that always how it’s been
I'll never give up Jordans, especially 6-7-8s, and I been wearing ACW parachute pants in 2018 along with off-white, RIP Virgil.
But honestly my style has always been a mix of either hip-hop or grunge (which are what I listen to most of the time), I've never been affected by trends, but I still watch your videos to stay in touch
As someone who has a pair of 550s, ik they are over saturated but they can still never go wrong in comfort and style
great video!
i love that subtle TNT x NB 1906 Plug
Wow nicely done
After getting into nb 8 years ago due to its high quality cricket spikes, im glad its getting the recognition it deserved, as it means you see more variation in public, as opposed to only seeing nike/adidas, aswell as the fact that we are moving towards pieces that last instead of fast fashion
shoutout to the Arbiter reference.
Kind of funny I just got into 550s as they fell out of "trend", but I loved the Ultra Boosts way past 2018 and I plan to rock the 550s for much longer too. Anything aged really excites me rn.
Spot on video bro.
It is now time for everybody to accept the fact that we are living in a post-sneaker world.
Quite right, If you look around any city or town EVRYONE is wearing leather Goodyear welted shoes. :)
@@colmcgillveray1010 LOL I hear you. Guess I should have worded it differently.
great vid !!!!
I only wear converse Chuck 70’s. Only sneaker I wear. Literally buy 3 pairs of the regular, plain old black and white and wear em rotationally into the dirt. I feel like that sneaker exists to a counterpoint to your comment about the NB550 starting to signify something that isn’t what got you into it in the first place, because the Chuck Taylor is SO ubiquitous and in a sense, generic, that it becomes a template for you to wear with so many different styles while never acting as a focal point or associating you with some specific moment in trends or fashion.
that’s so true about parachute pants and height bc I’m 6ft and a woman and baggy trousers like parachute pants have come in and out of trend across the years but I can never style them in the same way. They don’t ever fit in the baggy way I want them to. I think it might be the same for anyone who’s plus size who wants proper baggy trousers.
this video was so good, i agree with most of your takes abt this !
#pvv: my fave funny tv show is Community (it's on Netflix), it has made laugh so hard i couldn't breathe, all the characters just fit so nicely together and it's always funny to watch, even if you don't outright laugh you're usually smiling throughout the episodes :)
was a pleasure to watch
I feel those new generation is living everything I did in early 2000s up to 2014. Specially with the headphones when I used to have 5 Beats Studio to match my fits at the gym 🤪. But now living in Japan, the EarPods is annoying because I’ve dropped couple times walking fast in the busy Yokohama station. So now I’m looking to get a headphone because I don’t want to lose.
Yes 550’s are oversaturated, overplayed, or whatever. But no one can deny that they are incredibly comfortable and that’s exactly what keeps me wearing them everyday
Loved this!
Uh, currently watching The Office!
So far so good 😊
honestly great video, really have the same opinion on pretty much everything!!
I just found your channel today and safe to say I am obsessed, love it all!
Comedy shows I recommend are Parks and recreation and IT crowd :))
Bet!! I will add them to the list
It’s also super interesting to note the differences between areas in how fast the trend cycle moves. Like where I live in arizona, things like dr marten platform sandals and mom jeans, that were popular when I was a junior-senior in high school, are still popular there. Whereas the trend cycle moves much faster in SoCal, where I go to school right now.
As a sophomore in college, I’m only just starting to see dunks and Jordans become popular in my hometown, while in SoCal people are already starting to move past those and onto 550s for instance.
You seem so nice, thanks for the video it was great !!
❤️
the headphones as an accessory thing has me kinda salty because, as an audiophile who loves music, I can't take my usual headphones out of my apartment because they need a power source to work. I would also just be paranoid about something happening to the headphones while I'm out.
#pvv tough to pick a funniest show of all time, but I might pick Tigtone right now. it's like that show was made specifically to appeal to me. it's a parody of classic fantasy tropes with a truly disgusting art style. not for everyone but if you love adult swim and want to see a gory show about a man who's addicted to questing, then check it out.
Im the same in regards to headphones. I don’t even think they look bad in most cases but having spent $1000+ on amp/dac I would never buy headphones I’m not going to sit at a desk with when regular AirPods/IEMs fit their intended use wayyyy better. Also when I enjoy a headphones aesthetics I don’t actually consider how they look on head, for example Audeze LCDs look fucking dope but they’re so bulky on your head.
The exception would be full noise cancelling headphones, walking around with them on is an alpha move lmao
Loved the video as always! I was wondering if you could make a video about your pants collection :) Me beeing a tall dude myself I struggle to find pants with the right inseam. Maybe you got some brand or brands you can put me on :)
Rose Anvil's channel is soooo good, he is my go to when I want to buy new shoes! Also, New Balance were the cool brand when I was a teen in the 80's but they have been around for a long time and trends are cyclical.
I didn't exactly grow up with it, but when I was a kid 'Whose Line is it Anyway?' would air on TV and while I didn't get it then I sure as hell get it now and I love it.
ALWAYS A GOOD DAY WHEN DREW POSTS
idk you bro but this just poped up in my explore page and was so good gonna watch other videos cause you seem like a cool bro
I love the New Balance wave. I have really wide feet, and bc they run pretty wide and comfortable I can actually be proud of my footwear.
Ya my dad always wore n wear new balance cuz he got wide feet lol
I don't know if this recommendation is late but my favourite comedy shows include Atlanta, Abbott Elementary and Ramy. The diverse cast makes it cool for me to relate to the characters and their journeys. The writing is also top tier - raw and gets to the root of topics that are usually not addressed in society. Almost mirrors my own life sometimes but it's like I get to laugh my pain away. Amazing shows.
It’s never too late for a great recommendation 🫡
Great video. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a great comedy series, highly recommend it
Man as someone who really loves headphones, seeing people go after whats trendy and ignoring some actually good quality brands like Sennheiser, V Moda etc is weird since for me functionality and sound quality come first them maybe looks and portability after. Looking at the Sennheiser 450 BT right now and researching those "trendy" Koss wireless ones at the moment.
