HOT TIP: Almost better than keeping your body's measurements, is measuring your favorite piece of clothing and using that as a reference. I'll measure the shoulders, pit-to-pit, and hem of shirts and waist, rise, inseam, and hem of pants. I have a favorite fitting shirt and pair of pants I use as a base reference for all my possible purchases.
you're brilliant! thx man :3
Yes, and you can even make clothes based on this.
1. Find your measurements.
2. Start simple, then work towards more complicated outfit items.
3. Understand how to take care of your hair , skin and scent. Personal hygiene / grooming is a must!
4. Document your style journey.
5. become a nudist, skin is the only fit that matters
I like #2. In my most recent revision of style, I started with a black turtleneck, black belt with gold detail and black wide leg pants and snake print loafers. I could work from there and build more complex/ interesting outfits from there!
pretty lackluster video

i agree so much about having clothes that actually fit you properly. for the longest time i could never find pants that fit me and were my style so i got pants that were my style, but two sizes too big. it just made my outfits look bad and looked weird.
Every time I find a good fitting pair of trousers I'm so happy I have to tell everybody I've found something that is long enough to reach my feet ahah
The problem is with waist measurements on trousers is they're often inaccurate. I can fit a 32 in some brands and a 36 in others.
Thats true!☝
When I shop for clothes it’s like I have a mental block on what I should buy ultimately leading to not buying it at all. I live in NYC and walking the streets you see so many cool fits and here I am wearing majority black.
there's nothing wrong with wearing majority black! if you're curious and your budget allows you can experiment with color pieces until you find what makes you feel great, you have a huge bonus in that black compliments almost everything!
Brother. The power of returns. I never ultized this but I’ll buy pretty much anything I think looks sick. But once u put it on I realize if it’s for me or not. I buy a lot of shit I think is dope but somethings just don’t look good on me. Experiment get crazy. Fashion is like music. All subjective
Great points, I'd also add that copying other people, or even some runway (not exact pieces, but the ideas they display) is a good way to learn styling. Yes of course you will wear some stuff you might not enjoy a year (or week) later, but you will learn from trying.
The problem for me is just the vast disparity between my measurements, the stated measurements on the products, and the actual measurements when measured. How do they get away with this?
I loved this video you’re doing gods work lol! I’d also say that getting your favorite clothes tailored (if you can afford it) is a great way to look more polished. I love getting dresses and skirts taken in at the waist to make it look like they were made for me. It costs me ~$15 per piece, and it’s a great hack for when thrifted clothes are a little too big.
Really appreciate your content and the research, critical analysis and overall thoughtfulness that goes into it all! You touched on this a bit already, but what I would love to learn more about (whether in video specifically dedicated to this or maybe interwoven in different videos over time) are your thoughts on self-love and the emotional, mental, psychological and social components that go into style. I think there's so much to be said about how much learning to know and love one's self is a fundamental part of any style journey, yet feels like an often missed conversation or isn't as central to conversations about style as it could/should be.
Anyway much respect!
“Timeless” is such a tired word that doesn’t help much. Same goes with “fitting your body” what does that even mean? Are tailored garments the only acceptable ways to look fashionable? That’s rather narrow and devoid of artistic expression.
I'd say even with oversized or relaxed fitting clothes they have to fit your body to an extent. You can't just buy a pair of 36 inch waist jeans if you are a 30 inch waist and expect it to have a good, baggy fit. So you still have to buy things that are intentionally made to be "oversized" but are still made to fit your body measurements.
@@murrayisarobot that’s not true, I recently just got a pair of pants that are much too big on the waist and even tightening on the drawstring they are still kinda loose but create a flattering flowy silhouette. Most of my pants are slightly loose at least in the waist but still create a nice shape, I’d say what’s most important is the inseam and shape.
Thank you for this video Drew, my personal style is in the rut at the moment and declining ever since. This is the video I needed to pick myself up and revaluate my sense of style.
I’ve been into fashion for years and my styles changed all the time. I love seeing my change of style. I see old photo of my style love some aspects and hate other aspects.
I really think you did a great job on that video, it’s a hard theme to make many relate to. But you really got all the good points, that helps a lot!❤. Enjoy the last part of the summer!🤩🤗
I get so excited when one of your videos comes out, Im never disappointed, great vid!
❤️
When I first started my fashion journey, I kind of jumped quickly into wearing unique pieces which was cool at the time but now I kind of dress more Basic not because I like it so much but rather because of insecurities about my body and stuff. I’ve had a long battle with finding pants that fit perfectly but I’m starting to get the hang of it
bro this was such a good video, the information, the b-roll, everything was on point, good work bro, love ur content.
I love your videos
Very nice 👍. Great job drew!
Drew i love this video!
Great tips mate, i actually found the video super helpful 'cause i've been trying to figure out my style for a while now and i keep struggling so this video was really helpful, thanks!! 💖🌻🍀🍃🌺🌻

lol you were like a cat that stops and stares into the void for 20 secs XD
Thank you ❤
friend , you are my favourite fashion channel now ! so informative and fun !!
Thank you so much❤️
Had to learn the fit thing. I started hitting the gym 3 years ago. And just recently a year ago got into fashion. Realized how stupid I look in skinny jeans weighing 240. When I was 140 it was okay. I’m 6’4 btw.
loved this video! especially the part of perfume. i love finding perfumes that match the colors and vibes of my outfit (if that makes sense) and i love having a signature scent. my coworkers can always tell when im in bc they can smell my perfume lol. it really does make your look go up to the next level
Love this channel. Fashion philosophy.
to me it seems that year by year my clothes just get baggier and baggier. alot of people probably think i look sloppy. i like it tho
Haha the notes app measurements is the go to. That hot girl summer tik tok with the trash can is perfect😂
I love you for this.
😂❤️
Adding to my notes app
man this video made me wanna make a vid about this too!!
1. indigo jeans (has the most utility of any clothing item. item one must be pants. a person isnt dressed without pants)
2 quality plain tshirt. recommend black or white
3 canvas sneaker.
4 three piece suit.
5 white dress shirt
6 chelsea boot.
with these 6 item you have an insane amount of optionality. everything here works with everything else here and i cant think of a better basis for a capsule wardrobe.
Really smart video. I'm an old man and have always been interested in style, beyond fashion. I worked in an industry that was extremely superficial and needed to build a personal brand to maintain credibility without going broke by investing in the occasional (usually 2nd hand) item by Prada or Zegna or Armani, but mostly got by in black t-shirts and black jeans for the better part of 30 years in the film industry. I like the way you approach the subject. I suppose to some degree I still believe in style as a form of personal expression, even beyond the outrageous corporate brainwashing and materialism we're faced with every day.
You're right about the fit! I tried on a skirt last night and noticed that it bulges out on the sides...I don't like it and my view of the entire fit was ruined because of it. On the opposite end, I don't like anything too tight and my confidence increased when I started wearing baggier clothing.
Drew you need to make a timeless clothes tier list ! And I want to argue with you about it
Love your videos!

I love you drew
can you please make a video on how to style for more bulky/chunky guys??
i clicked on it cuz i love ur content
and cuz my style sucks and want to learn how to improve it immediately
Hahaha your style sucks
I LOVE the example of the woman @7:25 mark! She has a bold, beautiful, colorful style; and I am sooo here for it!
The first tip about measuring yourself works definitely only for men. Because women's clothes aren't the size it says on the label and the size can vary within same label. But works for men for sure!
if you buy online, the measurements of the clothes is more often than not in the description of the item. I'm a woman and when I look at clothes online I always look at the dimensions of the piece.
And while shopping in person you can just try it on.
@@tiramisu7339 Oh thanks! I never considered trying out clothes before buying them. That's an awesome tip!
Really, there is no online store that tells the measurements of an individual item, and women's size 27 jeans aren't always 27 inches. Bras that claim to be 30 aren't 30 etc. Sometimes they tell the sample size that the model is wearing, but how many people are the exact same size as the model?
Ur talking about vanity sizing, which exists for both men and women.
If anybody is on the shorter side like me and wants to find some good pants I’d recommend Uniqlo. They have some really nice ankle pants with good stretch and comfortable material and it’s on the affordable side. Another brand I really like for pants is Abercrombie, they’ve recently stepped up their game their 90s jeans, loose work pants and linen pants are extremely comfortable but they could cost up to 80 dollars. I’d recommend getting them when they are on sale but I can’t express how much I love Abercrombie’s pants because again I’m short so finding pants that sit above the shoe isn’t always the easiest but these pants go really well with a pair of doc martens, loafers or even sneakers. again uniqlo for linen or dress ankle pants and abercombie for jeans, loose pants and linen pants. their linen shirts are also comfortable and stylish!
Great video! I got curious about smth. What are the clips used in step 2 sampled from?
Please please do a fragrance vid please please
The biggest problems with measurements is that sizes are all different in all brands even if the measurements seem like yours. It's especially hard to shop online when you need to try many things on before you find what fits you.
Mama I made it 🥲🙏🏽🖤 Much love king!
ID on the shirt he’s wearing? Looks super nice
What do you think about matching the clothes to our skin color?
I'm renewing my wardrobe so I'm watching some fashion channels to dress more consciously, and that's one thing that I think has helped me.
I definitely think it’s something that should be considered but honestly let your intuiting guide you on that
what race are youn ?
I measured my shelf and it was 120 cm wide and 190 cm tall, So what size pants would fit me?
😂😂 you are my new favorite commentator
I don't know if this is mentioned in the video; I haven't finished the video yet, but can we include not buying clothing for the sake of having it? This summer, I've had trouble with the simplest thing: trying to find tank tops to wear that fit my style. This may sound like I'm just really picky, but I like to believe that my style is really specific, and if I go too cute or too basic, my wardrobe loses its cohesiveness. So far, I've bought a few tank tops that I found cute, but they don't really fit my style, and the other day I saw some tanks online and felt like THOSE were the tanks that I should've been buying at the beginning of summer. It's not just tank tops either; like bottoms and shoes, I find straying away from something like a set of shilloettes or specific styles makes your style not seem like yours. I don't know if I'm explaining that well, but it's as if someone else bought the clothing item instead of you, and because of that, your style looks less cohesive and almost unfinished. Basically, conscious buying/shopping.
*Cries in alopecia*
great video but know I have to rewatch the devil wears prada and hitch first
Best advice. How about shoes? I am starting w vans and a pair of white Nikes what should I do next w shoes?
5:36 what’s this leather shoe with holes called???? So interesting!
For me it’s not even about having bad style, I just have a little bit of everything. Making some outfits levi’s baggy shirt and others techware.
I love it when you say my style sucks😏
I got an ad for 501s on this video lol
I'm very curious what you think about style essences and body types, ala Kibbe and Kitchener.
I think they are really interesting concepts, I’ve heard of them before and I think they can serve as a guide for different body types for different clothing
My weight dictates what i wear. The less I weight, the more options i have. To have more options and looking good is my motivation to exercise and eat right. I like classics with slight twist. I also like comfort and easy care fabric. I am trying not to buy more but shop my closet (and sell my large closet). I care about my looks and enjoy looking good. The joy is all for my enjoyment, not to impress anyone.
Same! I can really only wear dresses and tights at higher weights. At lower weights, I love shorts/ pants/ dresses/ skirts/ belts EVERYTHING.
my measurements fluctuate like crazyyyy
These are great tips. I think for your viewers it would benefit us from you telling us your measurements and go out and shop to demonstrate how to pick clothing for your body type. Take us with you!
you just wanna see him in his underwear, you sicko. you aint smooth
Great idea
I would add in the grooming section: take care of your hands and feet. I used to overlook this aspect of grooming and because I have a manual job my nails would always look dry, with cuticles and dry skin around that I would bite on, it was really pulling my style down.
0:40 what are these shoes ive been looking for them

what do you think about a baggier bottom 2/3rds? i always like to dress diffrent but my main pieces are baggy pants. like really baggy. i can’t decide if they make me in a sub genere or if u just don’t have the right clothes
have u ever worn a nice outfit but for the wrong occasion? i think dats an underrated mistake people make and not really talked about enough. any tips on dat?
Yeah happens all the time, it’s annoying when that happens but it’s all about getting the vibe of the occasion before you decide your outfit.
no pvv?
What cut of the 501 is best for the look at 6:03 when he walks through the plants? I see on the levi site a lot of different cuts of 501 and idk what to pick but i want that one
What are the pair of loafers on the thumbnail that are white and a sort of olive green? Thank you
ALD taverna loafers
I'm interested to know Drew if you've still got and wear any clothes you bought 5-10 years ago?
I have a few garments of that I age I still wear: Levis 501s, a few white and black tees, a pair of Converse and a white and light blue classic fit dress shirt.
Of course he has, it's called working out dummy
I've got tons of garments from 5-15 years ago (and I'm quite young in comparison) I'm so curious about why so many people stop wearing their clothes after little few years
@@MetaBassy Trying to catch up to the latest fashion and trends causes people to impulse buy temporary styles.
@@Alan-rw3ez the weird thing is that I buy a lot of stuff. I mean: I have a lot of stuff. But I keep them eheh anyway. I hope we will be able to stop consuming so much

9:15 - 9:20 what do you mean by that ? 😂
For me the biggest compliments I have received are "I like your outfit" and "you smell nice".
Where’d the pvv go😞😞😞
I just always go for 31 on pants then go visit my friend Taylor
You give solid advice, without being a douchebag about it. Good job!
0:06 in, what video is that?
What jeans are in the thumbnail
hii drew, what do you recommend I about getting clothes that fit, when my weight fluctuates a lot. Every year (and sometimes within months) my measurements change by a lot and it's really discouraging to have to buy new clothing because my old stuff doesn't fit anymore. :(
I’ve been going through this as well. It depends on the item but for bottoms my jeans shrink a bit when I wash them and expand when I wear them for prolonged periods of time.
I honestly don’t have a solution but I’d steer away from buying more and new items with each weight change
@@DrewJoiner thanks for taking the time to respond :) would you say i should try and feel comfortable/confident in the clothing i already own?

What is your take on the saying "dress your age" I'm in my early 40s and I've been hearing that a lot. Thanks!
----Rick San Diego CA
Personally, I don’t like the idea of “dressing your age” if you are in your 40s and like something that is associated with 20 something year olds that’s more than okay.
Wear what makes you happy
dressing your age is complete nonsense. wear what makes you happy

I want to dress well so much but my problem is I'm more likely to get mugged because of it!!
I am just too lazy to wake up every day and wear complicated or nice outfits for school😔 I swear I look pretty when I dress up nice but I physically can’t do it for school bc I’m waking up at 5:30am every morning and rather be comfy then wear jeans or something😅 I also want to find comfy clothes that look good so I don’t have to put in as much effort everyday to be comfortable and stylish but when I find items like that they are 1. Not in my size 2. Too expensive 😔😔
i just bought the burnt orange gazelle shoes pls dont ruin this for me rn im so scared of your thumbnail
My tip: if u short like me go jorts with loafers/any sambas or superstars and one last tip dont go oversized tees just don't.
i don't see how dressing well is a moral code
Today I learned that a wife pleaser tank top is an actual thing 😂

It’s not because you find it important that is “moral” 🙄
