Why Metal Slug 4 is Highly Disappointing

- Alright, I'm just gonna be honest, Metal Slug 4 kinda... disappoints me.
This isn't a controversial opinion by any means, but damn. This one is really mediocre.
After the absolute show-stopper that was Metal Slug 3, the series had big expectations to meet for a sequel. And boy, were those expectations not met in the slightest.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a Metal Slug game, but just not as fun and clearly not made with the same drive and passion that previous games were.
In fairness, this was 2002, post the initial SNK bankruptcy, so there was a lot of new variables when it came to development.
This Metal Slug was a joint production of Mega Enterprise and Noise Factory. PlayMore would eventually publish console versions of this, putting it outside of arcades not long after it's initial release.
Nonetheless, the game is just not as exciting, not as creative, and clearly not as original as the games that came before it, and those that come after it.
There are some newer concepts, but for the most part the game is built mostly using older assets, with very little new actually put into the game. - Hry
It may not be the best in the series but the ost makes it enjoyable, "The Scene of a Hard Battle" being the best part of the ost imo
That's definitely something I failed to mention. This one does have a great soundtrack.
Haven't played any Metal Slug games yet but I really want to.
Highly reccomend the first 3, and 5! If you can only play one, try either 2 or 3.
@@anotherblowncartridge and I think 3 is one of the only ones with nudity, which make it my favorite
@@AADP Is there a better reason to enjoy a game?
i agree it's not the best in line, but i still like every few aspects of this one, such as the new members, the funny ending and this is one of the few games where you return to Monke
I did enjoy the monke
3 really set a high bar
3 is too good! 5 is a great follow up, but 4, despite being fine, just cant compete with 3. Such a hard thing to go from 3 to 4.
Oddly enough Metal Slug 4 was the first one I played as a kid and I remember that day I went into Chuck E Cheese(if anyone knows what that even is these days) and remember seeing it on one of the arcade machines and since then I got into the games. I'm not the greatest at them but I do love the series but yeah 4 felt completely different from the first three, maybe even 5 as I personally felt those more difficult than the first three games. Metal Slug 4 however is still enjoyable and I would play again like the others but it definitely was disappointing and different.
As I said, I still think it's great! It's just that the series has such a crazy high standard, already. And I too do remember Charles Entertainment Cheese. Thanks for the comment 😊
the yetis are cute
Metal Slug is like Sex or Pizza. There’s some better than others but it’s Never Bad.
Perfect analogy.
How could you call it bad, there’s white baby
White Baby makes all the difference 😤
I love metal slug
Me too! They're great games; even this one is pretty decent!
@@anotherblowncartridge I wish there was metal slug collection for modern consoles and PC
@@MrMartellSincere Agreed, it's very unfortunate that they sell them all individually, rather than a collection for a more reasonable price.
@@anotherblowncartridge especially I'll be love to play them all in one package for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S and etc📦
