    I really loved the location you selected. It has a peaceful and beautiful feel to it. Also the music added to the tension and suspense in a way that was effective and kind of subtle. The lightsaber battle reminded me of old school samurai sword fights - no wasted motion and being careful when to engage and not to. Some lightsaber battles (both in fan and 'professional' films) make it clear that the participants don't think the lightsaber is very dangerous (i.e way to many flashy moves).

      Another thing while reading these comments. Stop defending your product. If you want to make movies you are going to have to accept the reception, not battle people in yotube comments. Try not making a bad star wars movie, I know how it is SW is amazing such a great universe but you might have a great mind as well to come up with something that actually goes somewhere. This is very bad and if you watch your film then compare it to even the worst SW movie made you will realize how bad it is. I know this sounds like bashing but seriously think about something original rather then bad actors in a forest with light sabers.

    • @reaverr5863
      @reaverr5863 Před 6 lety +4

      I praise the fact that they completed a project they wanted to. Whether it was original or not doesn't matter to me. The fact that they gained experience while making this is enough for a polite clap. You won't get to make your best films without making something "bad". It's apart of the creative process that these guys were aware of and I don't mind them defending something that probably took months to make.

    • @FrankRomanoVideos
      @FrankRomanoVideos Před 6 lety

      Thank you for saying that. We used an anamorphic adapter to achieve a true anamorphic look. The adapter was very heavy, and ended up breaking the 40mm taking lens (it was designed for a much heftier taking lens). The adapter also had it's own focus ring. So, in order to rack focus, we needed to rotate two rings simultaneously. On top of all that, we shot on a 5D Mark III, so we needed an external monitor to stretch the image back out. This made the overall rig very heavy and more difficult to work with. Even the most basic shots were a challenge. We're happy the footage is passable, let alone amazing. Appreciate the kind words.

    • @FrankRomanoVideos
      @FrankRomanoVideos Před 6 lety

      We calculated the budget at around $3600. But about half of that was costs associated with the score. I'm sure if you factor in catering and other small ancillary expenses, we might be closer to $4000 total. Keep in mind that most everyone involved wasn't paid. It was just a passion project. And we utilized owned / borrowed equipment. If we didn't already own camera gear, it would have cost a lot more to produce.

      Thank you for saying that. We knew our approach to the score was a big risk, but potentially the biggest payoff. Avengers 24 Hi, I’m the writer and co-director. I wrote it to be ambiguous, so we’re made to understand that these two women have a past, but we don’t know exactly what that past is (my producer gave me the story, but I just wanted to hint at it). We know Zaalia (our hero), hitched a ride to this part of the galaxy on false pretenses (which Kal, the pilot, points out). Beyond that, it’s left up to our imagination. I wanted to hint at the idea that Zaalia is trying to turn the villain (Si’Nestra) back to the light, but I don’t say it explicitly. It’s likely we’re too vague in the edit (we ended up cutting many lines). In the end, it’s a story more about Zaalia’s stubbornness than it is about her past. Thanks for commenting!

      I don't know that their names are important to the story. I use them when describing the story, but I could easily just refer to them as the hero, the villain, and the sidekick and you still know everything you need. Our original cut had more dialogue, which included their names, but in the final edit we cut any line that wasn't absolutely necessary.

    Really enjoyed this little fan film, But if i could suggest anything, During the fight scenes speed up the motion of the swings, The lady with the green saber was super slow, You could see this wasn't supposed to be flashy but more strategic but it was so slow between its motion.

  • @rictusmetallicus
    @rictusmetallicus Před 6 lety

    Having seen many Fanfilms, i think this one looks great, sounds great but tells a very standard story. Standard forest, standard force users, standard ending. It surely was fun and hard work to make, but ... it's just another standard fanfilm

  • @NerdJake
    @NerdJake Před 6 lety +3

    The light saber duell is solid, I think it would be better though to speed it up a little bit. The movement seems kinda slow for force sensitives. Just speeding up the video material would make it better I think.

    • @FrankRomanoVideos
      @FrankRomanoVideos Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks! Glad you liked it. The movement is slower (more OT speed), but speeding it up in post doesn't help. They would have actually had to have performed it faster. Doing a time-ramp in post ends up looking very silly.

    • @FrankRomanoVideos
      @FrankRomanoVideos Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks man! That's sweet to hear. No, there are no further adventures with these characters. In truth, this was really just a fun "Princess Party" advertisement expanded into a short film for fun. The actress who played the movie's villain (Kitty), ran a Princess Party company. She reached out to my company because she wanted a lightsaber fight between two female force wielders in order to promote her female 'Star Wars' characters for parties. I thought it would be fun to expand the fight into a short film. When my brother and I came on to the project, the choreography had already been worked out, and the two female characters already named and costumed. So, I had to build a story around the lead Jedi (Zaalia) starting from a kneeling position and then blocking an attack from behind (I guess the original idea was that she was meditating). Overnight I drafted the script you see here, where Zaalia awakens from a parachute landing after her transport ship was shot down by the Dark Jedi. I figured if she lost her lightsaber, that could be a good way to write to a scenario by which she starts in a compromised position, then blocks her opponent's attack in the knick of time. I created the character of the clueless transport pilot to both fill the audience in on the plot, and to also create an arc for the lead character (she starts the film stubborn, then ends by accepting help). I did all the effects work myself, which took about a year working on it here and there. I wish, in the end, I had spent longer than 24 hours on the script, but I never expected the project to be so intensive. Thanks for watching!

    I guess everyone has an opinion so here’s mine. Poor acting and bad script. Seeing how their not ‘Major ‘ Jedi and Sith, the fight scene was ok to pretty good. However, I liked the special effects and sound effects a lot. Not sure how difficult they we’re to produce, but they seemed original. And last note, most Star Wars scripts weren’t the best. Ultimately, good job. When you have to come up with a concept, write, finance, produce, edit, film and ALL the other work that goes into a film, you have a much greater appreciation for film. Tho this didn’t rank high in my film, I do recognize that lots of hard work went in to this film and all contributors should be very proud of a film like this. Personally, I can only see them getting better and better. Congratulations on a job well done.

      At the beginning, she wanted to do it execution style. Savor it. At the end, Si'Nestra saw Zaalia's face and hesitated. What's holding her back; what's she thinking about? The viewer is invited to make their own perceptions about why she hesitated. If we made a sequel, we'd explore their history a little more.
      There is a similar moment in the Last Jedi, with Kylo Ren.
