George Lucas (we love you)
An Escape Velocity Content Production
Imagine what these guys could do with a real budget. The heart drives these films, not just money, and it shows. Absolutely spectacular. Wow.
🔥
🤘
I think we can all agree, that heartfelt fan films like this are the true legacy of George's creation. Nothing but love and respect for the source material. Created solely out of gratitude, not greed.
Beautiful words
Jasper Weixl thanks for the love, we really appreciate it 😊
"...the shadow of greed that is."
I'm pretty sure "nothing but love" is the reason why all the entire Saga exists. That and profit are the primary driving forces and to say anything else is ignorance of decades of history of the brand🙄
I was typing this out, almost verbatim, when I saw your comment. It made me smile.
You took the words out of my mouth... NOW GIVE THEM BACK!
Absolutely Fantastic Job! To take a minor ROTJ character and give him an entire backstory was brilliant. The acting, effects, costumes, sets/locations and cinematography makes this a masterpiece.
Loved every minute of it. Totally fits right into the SW Universe. Bravo! Extremely well done!!!!!
I love this film ❤
This is sooo well done! The character design is totally SW, the little boy is awesone actor! The rancor looks like taken straight out of the OT!
Simple story. No Force user jammed down our throats. And a superb realisation. The feels are there, all of them. For half an hour, I was taken back to the original trilogy.
That is the star wars I fell in love with as a kid.
Are you suggesting Rey is forced down your throat and more than Luke or Anakin?
Are you stupid or a sexist😂
Ryan C what? No, Luke and Anakin were over time revealed as force users in the first film they were in. But, with Rey, one second she is a scavenger, cool. The next suddenly she has lightsaber training and force powers that would’ve taken years to learn.
@@ryancols Of course she is. She can do everything perfectly with no training whatsoever. She's never wrong and everyone loves her for no reason. She's the living example of a Mary Sue.
But I wasn't talking about her. Rather, I meant most fan films are led by a lightsaber wielding protaganist.
Thank you so much for the love, Alric! We are beyond excited to announce that we are in the early stages of our 2nd Star Wars short film, Sands of Fate!

I saw just saw that kid carrying a Planet Geonosis Clone Trooper helmet on Planet Tatooine how did it get here on Planet Tatooine and I think this is the republic era before the Imperial Era and the New Republic Era
The most important thing that I found in this fan film wasn't just the quality, but that it felt like Star Wars. From the puppets, to the editing, even the humor here or there. Great job guys, amazing job.
Tim Villarreal Thanks Tim! Much appreciated. From the very beginning, the goal was to maintain the look and feel of the original trilogy.
Exactly great fucking job. I'm gonna share this with all my star wars fan friends
I applause to the authors who made this with a small budget. They are true fans of Star Wars
It's sad, that Disney can't understand what big universe they have.
So many interesting events could happen in the galaxy far far away, but they did the old story which was already finished and they managed to ruin old characters.
@@ianeskander6582 I'd say you met your goal, and then some. The feeling was dead-on.
So true. Everything felt like Star Wars. Even the music, everything.
The droid is amazing, and the language he's speaking sound like legit huttese. And the music is very John Williams-esque.
Love this!
It was our version of bocce
This feels like an actual Star Wars film!!! Loved it

I felt like I was actually watching Star Wars.
Yes. We've entered some kind of bizarro world, where fan films feel like the magical Star Wars we hunger for, and the big Disney Wars feel like fan films that don't know what Star Wars is about.
Agreed. It was rather enjoyable.
I mean. We never really thought much about the Rancor Keeper's backstory.
Totally awesome.
Same.
Jεε¥☯ñG you’re totally correct on his backstory. Since it’s Legends and relatively unknown, we came up with our own backstory that felt more compelling and interesting.
Everything in this film is first rate, from the production, story, actors, filming, costumes, special effects, and music. It's as if Lucas and his production company wrote and filmed the entire story. I would have never guessed this is a "fan film." Congrats! Everyone should win an award for the great work done on this film. 👍
I mean... WOW! Seriously. Production value was fabulous. Costumes were great. Gorgeous wide shots and vistas. This could fit right into a one off episode in The Mandalorian or something.
I'm deeply stunned by the quality, the feeling, the accuracy and the acting in this movie. I did not only watched a Star Wars fan-film, I felt a Star Wars Film.
Calm down. The acting is average at best
Still better than LTJ or Soylo.
@@barklordofthesith2997 not even close
Yes... TLJ & Soylo are not even close to how good of a film this is.
You anti last Jedi cucks are laughable. This was a cool amateur film but get real cucks......
This little film gave me a 1977 smile!!The OHHHH moment was so reminiscent of the original trilogy.
That droid was an amazing character. Everything here was done well, but I loved how the droid cares for the boy, even to the point of going against its owner to protect him. And the design was a great variant of the typical protocol droid. Great job!
This is so good and so hearty. It makes me sad that Disney can't get with the program when it comes to telling a basic story without screwing it up. That last little snip of George Lucas talking about the Rancor's keeper loving him almost brought me to tears. I completely forgot about that little touch in the original trilogy.
Hahahahahahaha hahaha! That kid grows up to be the fat guy hugging the corpse of the Rancor Luke kills in Return of the Jedi. This is actually awesome. A seemingly unimportant character given an interesting origin story.
That's funny. I thought he was Anakin. Birth of a Monster?
Either way, well done.
You really have to read Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina. It's awesome. It digs into the life of everyone in the cantina when Ben cut that brutes arm off.
I assumed it was him. Malakili.
@Jεε¥☯ñG that's true, but this is such a nice backstory!
@@beasthunt tales from Jabbas palace actually tells the story of how Malakili came to be with his pet Rancor. Does the same thing, the book delves into a lot of the characters backstories and how they came to be
Thank you for taking me back to a galaxy far, far, away. Everyone involved with this short film should be exceptionally proud. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by this fan.
Sweet and touching, very cool story ! I figured he was Malakili and the "monster" was the Rancor for sure (i was hesitating with a Wampa) right after the "one year later" seeing his new garments ! And then Jabba's small barge arriving totally made me smile and got the whole thing ! :D
I never thought Malakili's backstory would be this interesting. This is one of my favorite fan films.

he's from the planet Corellia and the Rancor is from the planet Dathomir. but other than that, was very well made, and and good back story

Hello 3rd phase, great stuff huh.. cA
So that's how jabba got that.. So that little boy is the man that was crying when Luke killed it.. Awesome
Malakilli I think it's his name
What scene in which star wars movie?
Justin Z. Return of The Jedi, the rancor fight.
"It" is a Rancor....FYI ! :)
I actually thought it was a Krayt dragon until the barge came along and the kid was wearing the head-scarf like the rancor keeper does in Jedi.
This had more Star Wars heart than the new Disney Trilogy. This was so sweet and well thought out. Loved it!
This is one of my fave fan films out. It’s better than the canon story, feels TOTALLY like I am watching Star Wars, and once Bib appeared I shit my undies. So we’ll done!
This fan film may be the best one I have seen. You put characters and substance ahead of flashy lightsabers and CGI. Thank you for this very good short film, appreciate the effort.
I love how you think lightsabers are "flashy effects" lol
Please tell me you've seen Vader: Shards of the Past.
schizer Yeah I have.
I agree this is good... But I'd think Vader: Shards of the Past and Darth Maul: Sith Apprentice are arguably the best SW fan films
Oh PLEASE!
Finally a fanfilm that isn't just people hitting each other with lightsabers for 15 minutes.
Darth maul cough
Hahaha true...I didn't have to fast forward this one.
And the dialogue wasn’t cringe either.
Agreed. I chuckled when I read your post because I was sat, cynically waiting for a Sith Lord to appear behind a rock and then hear the fetishistic thrumming of a red lightsaber. This had the good vibes of a Star Wars spin-off from the eighties circa the Ewok movies era.
in a forest
Brilliant, one of the best fan movies I've seen. BIG smile on my face when I realised who the boy was as the sail barge came in to view, explains why he was upset in ROTJ
I really love fan-films that don't involve important events or characters, but still reference the greater Star Wars universe. It allows it to easily fit into someone's head canon, without messing with pre existing information, or any future canon content.
This is one of the best examples of how fans can make wonderful and better things than large productions. The locations, the photography, the makeup, the costumes, the props, the puppets, the music and the scenography are AMAZING !! That droid, man!, the details, the acting, BRAVO !! The ending is incredible!. Congratulations to the cast & crew.

*Beautiful story of Malakili and Pateesa!* 👏
Without question the best fan film for Star Wars I've ever seen. Incredible cinematography , props and story.
Seriously dude? Smh...
Agreed, definitely a top shelf fan 🎥
Very beautiful.
For the love of God look up the Last padawan , I think... there's a cool obi wan one too. And Shards of the Past is excellent too.
if its the best, search a tad more bucketheads, last padawan, about a dozen more i have saved. This is well put together and well worth a watch
What a bizarre and unique angle to take with a fan film, yet it was so riveting. Incredible sets and costume design, felt like it was right out of the original trilogy.... Love the little bit with George at the end too
I think it's just a story following a average person in the universe, not a jedi or a smuggler or a princess. It reminds me of the ewok movie. It's like Luke Skywalker's life before he found out he wasn't just a moisture farmer. I think it was great because it didn't push it's boundaries too far like other fan films. Good set, props, actors, an effects. I agree it was very good, and different, which is something the series needs and adapts well for.

Now that's how you make a Star Wars story.
SPOILERS BELOW.
The man in Return of the Jedi who cried when Luke killed the Rancor could possibly be the little boy in this movie? WOW! And, this movie is how Jabba got the Rancor in the first place.
This is a prime example of a character driven story. Yes, flashy special effects help, but it's really all about characters.
"could possibly be?
it's 100% explicitly supposed to be the little boy in this movie
The Rancor keepers name is Malakili. I instantly thought the same thing
@L1qu1d S1lenc3r flashy special effects are fine when used to enhance a good story, not as a substitute
This is the way a Star Wars film should be!!!! I have to say that when I saw the puppets I jumped in my chair out of happiness.
Another fan film that tells a better story in 20 minutes than Disney can in 3 movies.
yes, but actually no.
Yes fan films are heaps cool
#sickburn
So true! Disney + Star Wars = 💩
Haha yeah I can tell a better star wars story than Disney.
To think a fan film about the rancor monster's owner could be this good, well done ! I legit got original trilogy vibes when I saw the first longshot of the boy walking in the desert with his droid.
Definitely felt that old school tatooine. Awesome job they did.
I could be wrong... but I thought rancors were native to Felucia?
Níłch’i naalkidí ᛏᛖᛚᛖᚹᛁᛋᛁᛟᚾ दूरदर्शन التلفاز they are actually found native on a few planets but yes Felucia is one that has rancors. I’m not aware of Tatooine having rancor in their ecosystem but it might not be a totally impossible idea that a few were living in caves. Maybe even smuggled on the planet at one point.

I bet Disney is disappointed. Not much content to create new toys to sell. Unless the big woman fits the bill. I can hear the feminists screaming.
Yep its güd!
BigBill Lucas so true, totally agree!
Of all the Star Wars fan movies about Troopers, Jedis, Sith etc this has to be the most genuine, Star Wars feeling fan movies out there. When I finally clicked who he was after the One Year later transition I literally had a huge smile on my face!! Well done guys!! (Also the cinematography, scene transitions, locations, creatures, props and characters all felt 100% Star Wars!!!)
Right? When I saw the kid with the goggles and head wear I knew exactly who this was about and I loved it. I can see this kid working for Jabba for decades as his monster wrangler and now makes the death of the Rankor in Jedi that much more impactful.
Came here to say exactly this. Perfect!
A trillion times better than Disney!!! This deserves a full feature film 😍
Disney please hire these guys to make more of these !! This is just amazing--it captures the essence of Star Wars.

Dear Disney, YOU'RE FIRED!!!
Fantastic! Loved it! So very Star Wars!
The person playing OTK did an amazing job. Such wonderful acting, I was genuinely heartbroken when he died.
Thank you! Steve Blum, a very talented, prolific voice actor brought the voice to my physical performance as O-TK.
That was magnificent. This film had so much soul. It's not often that you run into a gem but when you do the feeling is amazing. Thank you to everyone who poured their hearts into making this.
Everithing you just said is right
A wonderful job that filled in the backstory of Jabba's rancor and its caretaker. I was impressed.
That was amazing! Incredible tie in! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I really like the parallels between the scenes at the entrance of the cave. And the scene where Luke goes to Jabbas Palace in Return.
Excellent backstory. Loved it. Always felt a little sorry for the rancor & it's keeper when it died in Return of the Jedi. It went from being a vicious beast to someone's beloved pet when it's keeper saw it die & was crying. Like finding your dog you raised from a pup dead from being struck by a car. Totally realistic, relatable & emotional
This film was beautiful.
This truly parallels with Return of the Jedi and the characters are so good to
Especially the droid . Plus the music was awesome and I love the bit from the cantina from ep 4
I give this film 10/10

Hats off to the production of this film. This is how you properly flesh out the characters that will makes the movie all the while relevant; how did people end up in Jabba's lair, there must be a story, whether long or short, light or dark there's a story and it matters to us. Not that Rey looking at the mirrors reflecting her own image means anything to us. Just like Luke said," Why are you here?" If you can answer the question, that's the key to a successful movie.
may the force be with these film makers
WOW, iI KNOW when Lucas watches this he will be AMAZED. Treu SW feeling, fantastic locations, photography, great acting of the boy and the droid character..super.
I’ve yet to pick up my jaw from the floor, the cinematography is just amazing!

Agreed. It definitely feels like it fits in canon.
I agree! It felt like a regular Star Wars film.
Unfortunately, the film failed to pay off for me because Krayt Dragons are native to Tatooine, NOT Rancors. If only the filmmaker had instead made a film about the evolving relationship between the off-world captured Rancor brought to Jabba’s palace & his human keeper, that would have made a far more rewarding story.
@@JamesWilliamKing yeah youre right it got some flaws tho.. Also that the rancor grew up so fast makes no sense obviously but it was still done with love.

What an EXCELLENT back story. Makes Luke Skywalker look terrible for killing that little boy's pet rancor. Also makes it so much more understandable why the fuy cried when the rancor died
Absolutely loved this short film, it is a brilliant back story to a character I was always intrigued by. This was such a high quality fan film I can almost believe its been sitting in George Lucas' vault for all this time and has just surfaced on the internet. The creators should be very proud

I agree with 9, but Johnson really put a lot of heart in The Last Jedi, he created a Star Wars movie with his own vision, not just for the fans.
7 8 9
@@ultronemperor3525 yeah and almost destroyed Star Wars, anyone who likes 7,8,9 is no real Star Wars fan.
I am a major consumer of STAR WARS Fan Films, this is one of the very best I have seen. So, this is the story of the Rancor Owner.. how awesome is that. Congratulations and May The Force Be With You... Always.
Joel Strieter could you please share? Which one are the others you consider good?
So awesome that you absolutely
HAD TO SPOIL IT, right?
But what for? 😒
Seriously, I was looking at the comments before watching the movie...
I won’t do that again.
It’s the first time I see a so called Star Wars fan spoiling the twist of a movie.
Well done dude,
don’t change anything 👍🏻
It really is the best I've ever seen. Where'd it come from? Why are there so few subscribers and views?
Hey....you got a rush from throwing out the spoiler, didn't you?
The Droid (O-TK) and the Droid voice actor were superb. In such a short time they were successful in making the viewer form a real connection to the Droid. Outstanding. Make-up was great too and the location.
Incredible back story about Jabba's Rancor and the Rancor keeper, I felt like I was actually watching Star Wars, also the Clone Trooper helmet was a nice touch.
Thank you so much for the love! We are beyond excited to announce our 2nd Star Wars short film, Sands of Fate. We would be honored if you joined our film making rebellion! Here's the campaign you can check out which includes a teaser video :) igg.me/at/SandsOfFate
OH MY GOODNESS. SO DANG GOOD.
YOU ACTUALLY MADE ME CARE ABOUT THE RANCOR AND HIS KEEPER!
Now I am sad...
Bad batch has the same effect
This was probably the best Star Wars fan film I've seen. And as a filmmaker myself, i was extremely impressed with the production quality, special effects and authentic feel to Star Wars. And the nerd in me is going nuts realizing at the end that it was Malakili the Rancor Master. Awesome job!
Brilliant. Best fan-film I've seen. Looks professionally made and avoided all the usual cliches.
It always amazes me how these fans go into such detail and have such passion for the story and do a an awesome job with 1 10000th the budget
Nice job going to Death Valley sand dunes where many Tatooine desert scenes were filmed! Ive been there many times (live about 2 hours away) and love it! Iconic!
This is actually pretty good. Lucas would be proud
Are you joking? Remake it and add a bunch of unnecessary cgi, change some critical plot elements here and there, then Lucas would be proud indeed.
It's a sad state of affairs when fan films are better and feel more like Star Wars films than actual Star Wars films.
Bravo!! This was well done. Enjoyed every bit of it.
THE FORCE WAS STRONG IN THIS FAN FILM. MIGHTY STRONG!
Now this is a fan film that needs to be added to the cannon!
Bad Batch already tells the story of Jabba's Rancor.
@@felipeleal6861 I’m pretty sure that was a different rancor
Wow now that guy that was crying has his own story. Incredible what a backstory film can do!
No over acting, no over use of special effects, a good clean and easy to follow story line.......BRILLIANT! Its getting harder and harder to find good fan films. You have nailed it. A very genuine well done!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the love! We are beyond excited to announce that we are in the early stages of our 2nd Star Wars short film, Sands of Fate!
We would be honored if you joined our film making rebellion! Here's a link to our campaign which includes a teaser video :) igg.me/at/SandsOfFate
Incredibly well made!! Bravissimo 👏🥰
The practical effects were amazing. I really enjoyed this. Great work to all involved!
I’ve seen them all, this is the very best SW fan film yet. So well done. Wish the other prequels had been that creative and true to the original. Nice work, put a huge smile on this old SW nerd’s face!
