I like how the run is ironically, only interrupted by the insanely high time bonuses. This is great stuff! May Sonic live forever.

I usually don't enjoy watching TAS videos, but this one was really incredible. I think it was the way you used both Sonic and Tails simultaneously to unfathomable efficiency. It was amazing to see the various paths and shortcuts you discovered with the game. Such an exhibition is valuable to would-be game programmers like myself. Very nicely done!

Naw, just the vents. Totally legit vent system.
Still not as crazy as the wheel glitch in Carnival Night.
We don't TALK about that one! :Y
I remembered watching this like in 2010 or 2011 with my brother. And we was SURPRISED on how the game was beated.
half the time I don't even know what the fuck is going on.
+RaitoYagami88 Any particular glitches you want explained?
+lunavixen015 Many. For instance the one at 10:42. How is that possible?

That was a pretty cool glitch
Icy what you guys did there
I play sonic and im like, oh im so good. then i watch this and just die inside :( lol
+Elijah Calloway-Cortes Nah, dude. It's a TAS--tool-assisted speedrun. He's not actually playing the game live. He's programmed every input in every frame ahead of time, using slow motion and save states to figure out which inputs to program when. Then, once the programming is complete, he runs it in the game, records it, and uploads it for entertainment purposes. It's not a show of skills or anything. If you're looking for a show of skills, look for speedruns that aren't tool-assisted.

its really amazing how you do the glitches at the very right moment

Speed running a game is a challenge not a show of skill. Think of it as someone giving you a plate of food and utensils telling you to eat the food as fast as possible. You use your hands instead of the utensils because that will allow you to eat it faster. Its very much the same when a speed runner uses glitches instead of playing it out the intended way, the entire purpose of the challenge is lowering the completion time.
+Ben Stillwell
You're talking like these glitches aren't difficult to do! From what I've seen, some of them have a very narrow margin of error for input timing. Even with tools like slowmo and save states, that takes quite a bit of work! Not to mention taking the time to find out and figure out every possible exploit and shortcut that can be taken, legitimate or not, and using them all in one perfect run.
I see what you're saying, though. Tool assisted runs that use every possible exploit to get the absolute lowest completion time are an entirely different challenge from speed running au naturale.
TA runs are more a show of expertise and dedication than that of skill. That being said, it DOES take skill too.
For raw runs, you pretty much need it all.
+Cameron Moore I know some of the glitches are harder than playing through the game the intended way but my point was to explain speedrunning to someone who says speedruns "aren't legit" because the runner was glitching through areas. I should of made that clearer, the runner is using different skills than the game asks of. People who put in all this time to optimize though have all my respect, it's amazing!
Oh okay. That makes sense. Thanks for the info. This video was pretty crazy.
I LOVE THIS SPEED RUN !SO FAST AND AWSOME!;3
Well its like what sonic says " gotta go FAST"
I HATE SANDPOLIS ZONE>:(
+Finnie53 same here
If you don't hate Sandopolis, you're not human
Same bro same
Actually, knowing where to find all these glitches and running it through this seamlessly and fast is quite impressive, regardless of the fact they used a slowdown to see what they were personally doing while recording. PLUS, It's super entertaining to watch and giggle at people glitch their way through the games which we long hailed the programming of. :P
This is impressive. The speed is incredible!
For everyone calling him a cheat, learn about speedrunning or gtfo.

Seriously, EPIC run. My LP of this took like 6x the amount Hahaha!
How are you spin dashing so fast with only one spin
InvaderNoa, he may have a macro that allows him to press A, B, and maybe even C very very fast
Does anyone here even know what tas Is?
Holy hecc it's even stated at the beginning that's it's confirmed tas...
@@myronstewart8130 do you even know what a tas is?
How long does it take when you don't exploit glitches?
No one runs this game glitchless, and especially not for Tool Assisted Speedruns like this one.
The best glitchless run for any% takes about 1:10:00 or so for me (I think, the last run I did was a few years ago), but that can vary depending on a runners skill and their knowledge of the level, but as Tompa said, there are no active runners for glitchless (I don't have the gear for recording)
I actually prefer watching runs the way the developers intended. Glitch speed runners can go post their stuff in their own little special circle.
It took me 1'27"47. Roughly an hour and a half
To clarify, on the acts where the player ducks and skips through entire portions, the levels in question are made to wrap around vertically, and you can use a camera glitch that lets you bypass any obstacles while the camera loops around.
Awesome! This is why classic Sonic games are brilliant. Try doing something like this in Sonic 4.....
he's the fastest thing alive...
Faster than a speeding bullet?
@@RCSXDV faster than I get eliminated in Fortnite
How did he spin dash so fast?
Not even the screen could catch up
Rush Joins the Battle! Probably a macro that allows him to press A, B, and maybe even C within about a few milliseconds
I know. Maby from some weird glitch in the game.
TAS
It’s called a TAS, which stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun. He programs the buttons that are pressed at a specific frame. The way he spin dashed so fast is probably by telling the program to press A every other frame, which isn’t humanly possible.
Rush Joins the Battle! He used a screen wrap, look up sonic 3 and knuckles son of a glitch
Holy SHIT!You did a TAS speedrun.
master of tas
32:50 to 33:20 LEAVE SONIC ALONE (you damn rings)!!! :'-O :'-O
Lol, nice job cheating Marble Garden by fighting Knuckles' boss instead of the slow boss Sonic has to face.
How did you beat the Carnival Night mid-boss so quickly?
The skip he used made the boss speed up.
Man, thaaat was awesome. 20 seconds to reach this machine. Record at all times.
Your a good at this game!
This guy skipped
zone 2 in ice cap
This is a tool assisted speedrun. That's not impressive about 90% of people can do it
cheating cheek
sarcasm? if not, this is a TAS (tool assisted speedrun), which means he went into an emulator, and set buttons to be automatically pressed at specific frames, the parts where he looks like he’s cheating are actually just glitches that he used to his advantage to skip part of acts and zones
15:13 best dubstep ever lmao
Der Spieler ist ein Genießer. Einer mit Respekt vor den damaligen technischen Errungenschaften. Einer, der erst mal jedes Level atmosphärisch auf sich wirken lässt.
Even though you used glitches, this was impressive as hell.
Congratulations, this is fucking awesome!
TAS is so pro, he can control Sonic and Tails at the same time.
Good! Really good!!!
Wow that’s awesome 👏
I wonder how long a TAS actually takes to make.. Especially for longer Sonic games... Hm.. Weeks? Months? This is too cool!
It's very hard to say, of course, as it heavily depends on the game and your level of perfection, among other things.
It took me 6 months to finish an A Link to the Past TAS (1:16:11 long), 11 months for The Minish Cap (1:48:09), an 8 minutes Donkey Kong Country run was one month's work, and some runs have taken people years to finish, like the 120 star Super Mario 64 TAS.
My worst example is a 101% run for Donkey Kong Country, which I haven't finished in 9½ years. Though I haven't really been working on it regulary, breaks of years, but I've also redone the entire run about 10 times because of improvements. Total hours spent on it are LOTS though.
So yeah, hard to tell the exact time put into these runs =).
Most people when they got to the part at 9:17, had no idea how to get through it. It turns out when you are standing on it, that pressing up and down on the D-PAD makes it go up and down to great lengths.
Epic! How you got Tails to smash Dr Robotnic was great!
hauhem! its spelled Dr. Robotnik with a K!
Oh yeah I don't know how I forgot that lol as I have a Kapital K in my username :p
Hahahaha... U spelt capital with a k! Supposed to be a c!
I was being sarKastic lol ;) !
I thought this was about seeing a good game done quick not the spelling police lol lighten up ppl it's summer :)
38:50 is just the length of the video recording.
The TAS timing starts when powering on the game and ends with the final input needed to beat it. Everything after that can be ignored.
I remember when I used to play this! Good times. :D
Wow... thats fast!
Needed at least 6Hours, last month! :D
Interesting. So do I. Two of my favorites from this great game.
The 30:05 time that Mike and Werster got is using the in game timer, which is a 42:09 real time.
So this TAS is still faster. It has also been improved however, fastest one is currently 29:51.
this is so good lol i thought i was good at sonic this guy is the champion
Now this,is a master Sonic player.
The time starts at 0:01 and ends with the final input needed to beat the game. Which happens at 34:23 and is the jump. A total time of 34:22.02.
Glitches are part of the game and are used to beat it faster, as the goal is to beat the game as fast as possible for this Tool Assisted Speedrun.
The underground one is the boss you fight as Knuckles in that zone, the glitch he used put him in that area rather than the area that Sonic's regular path takes you.
Thanks!
Perfect
This was an amazing vid to get wasted to
Wow so many memories...
WOAH DUDE! 38 seconds of angel island? you awesome
hi
Awesome O.O
When you make a TAS you use slow motion (frame advance) gameplay and save states. You make the input, not a bot that randomly tests stuff (Even though it has been used in a few TASes, though very rarely.)
So you just see what the boss does and act from it by loading save state.
I see... thanks for the info!
wow good job dude i cant evan beat marble zone
ur like a pro at playing sonic do more sonic videos ifu can
this is insane gameplay
what the helll ???
this is the best sonic skill game ever,so many glitch
but how did you find it???
