  • I'm checking out a brand new ship simulator game for PC called Navismaster to see what it offers.
    This is an alpha tech demo of the Navismaster ship simulator, so it's a bit bare bones at the moment, but it has great water physics, which is a promising sign, and the boats behave quite naturally.
    One of the developers of Navismaster is Marius ( ‪@Axeonalias‬ ) who has produced some of my favourite models for Virtual Sailor NG, so that makes me even more excited about what Navismaster has in store.
    You can download the Navismaster demo that I tried in this video for free here: navismaster.com/
    You'll also find a link to the Navismaster Patreon page where you can get access to a more advanced demo, as well as supporting the development of the Navismaster ship simulator.

      In any case, first of all my respect. I wouldn't know if I would even dare to try Unity on a new project, because anything that isn't Unreal 5 is automatically bad in the eyes of the players anyway. If I see correctly: Crest ? seems to me after URP ?
      best regards, and good luck with the idea.
      The last project I saw in this form has probably been discontinued. Was Cross the Sea. I'm curious to see how it develops with you. So good luck & success.

    That is a some beautiful ocean simulation, the wake, foam, swell, and buoyancy of the boat all look very natural. Love what I'm seeing for such an early demo

    This genre is so massively underrepresented and mostly underdeveloped... I really wish with modern tech that might change. Kinda have some hope that
    the "Fishing Barents Sea/ North Atlantic" guys can deliver on a decent ship game/ sim with a decently sized world and most of all: rich gameplay...
    Their plans are good, let´s see what they can do :)
    Definately keeping an eye on Navismaster, looks promising... but we´ve said that way too often in the recent years :)

    • @TheTransportDepot
      @TheTransportDepot  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yes, I'm also hopeful for Ships at Sea. I like Fishing: North Atlantic, but it's not the most realistic simulation of vessel handling.

    • @RSProduxx
      @RSProduxx Před 4 měsíci

      @@TheTransportDepot Certainly true. I only played Barents Sea tbh. At least it is one of the very few with purposeful and not scenario based gameplay. That´s what I liked alot about it. I can forgive the "less realistic" approach in that case :)

    • @opafritzsche
      @opafritzsche Před 3 měsíci

      @@RSProduxxIt is : too little ?
      Do you actually know what belongs to a decent physics basis ?
      Why don't you let the guys do it? Don't kill everything with expectations again.
      On the technical side: what's the problem? So far, what has been shown looks very good. If you mean Unity instead of Unreal, we'll immediately disagree. In my opinion, Unreal can please, please, please, go to the fishes with steam and hiss, I don't have a single good word for this game engine.

      Das ist eine der Problematiken der heutigen zeit.
      Die Erwartungshaltung.
      mal eine frage: wie viel verstehst du selbst von Game Engines, und deren Cores und Hintergründen ?

      I agree. Flight sims have made me really crave that level of detail and interaction in all vehicle sims. Granted, a ship is a much large model to detail, and would likely put a much larger strain on system resources though.

  • @StrangeScaryNewEngland
    @StrangeScaryNewEngland Před 4 měsíci +2

    I'm a fan of Fishing: North Atlantic and have been playing that on and off for a few years. I hope more games come out with that idea in mind, but with larger vessels. I've always longed for a ship sim where you could realistically captain cruise-sized ships all the way down to sailboats.

    • @TheTransportDepot
      @TheTransportDepot  Před 4 měsíci

      I like Fishing: North Atlantic, but the ship simulation side of it does disappoint me a bit. Voyages never feel like an adventure, since the sea is always pretty calm, regardless of wind speed.

      That depends. I'm really looking forward to Ships at Sea, but I'm aware that it is still set in a very specific (relatively small) area of map, with a goal of upgrading to better vessels. What Virtual Sailor (and hopefully Navismaster) offers is a proper sandbox experience with the ability to expand it with 3rd-party scenery and vessels.
      Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for Ships at Sea, but I'm not sure how it will feel in terms of freedom.

    • @TheTransportDepot
      @TheTransportDepot  Před 4 měsíci

      I agree. I'm quite a fan of classic vessels too. I suppose the problem is the lack of historical drawings or plans available to the model-makers (plus lack of reference photos). Theoretically it could be done though, as SIM3D have some vessels for VSNG dating back to the early 1900s.

      @@TheTransportDepotgiven the sheer number of museum vessels around the world that could fall into that category one would think it would not be too hard to get images. The steam tug 'Wattle' down in Melbourne, Australia would be a fun vessel to have in a game

    Just tried it and I was a little dissapointed, the control HUD is quite tragic really, doing sliders for azimuths and having no indicator for what degree it's pointed at makes it quite the bit harder for no reason, and adding the search light controls in the same area was quite confusing, just found out what it is due to this video
