He even said told "her" that "she" could call him anytime if "she" needed help with taxes. Yeah, after being screamed at for several minutes like a madman "she" would be glad to call him back and ask for tax help.

When someone's crying, the best thing to do is to loudly yell "STOP CRYING!! STOP CRYING!!" at them.
I am not generalizing here, every person is their own person and makes their own choices... it just so happens my ex was also from india.. and he did this exact thing to me. He would say weak women cry and that he never wanted me to cry in front of him, if I need to cry I need to so it privately. And yet, I can count more than 6 times that mfer cried in front of me. Ooookay, buddy. I'm the one who needs to change.

They prey on the easily intimidated that lick boots and have no clue about rights. Some elderly people will cuss someone out and hang up immediately upon hearing a rude tone. Even the real police can be impersonated. But it has to be real, like in person.

You know what really annoys me about these scammers? It's that they're so quick to get angry at an old woman for behaving like an old woman (i.e. confused, hard-of-hearing etc.) even though they're deliberately preying on elders for those exact behaviours.

I hate seeing or hearing them acting this way towards elders. We have had issues with these people at the bakery i worked at. @@lilzeddy In 2016,I wasn't able to use Office on my Windows 10 PC. I Googled Microsoft and clicked on the link that looked legitimate. I caled the 800 number and an Indian guy answered. I didn't think twice as I knew many companies sourced their customer service to other countries.
This Indian man sounded legit so I let him take remote control of my PC and he started going to free virus protection downloads and I saw that as a red flag. Then he was trying to download more unrecognizable software, flag 2. Then he started transferring and executable file to my computer. 3 flags,baby. I go back to the website and realized the logo images were not from the legitimate websites.
I closed all windows and disconnected him from my PC. I called the real Microsoft customer support and they told me I pretty much dodged a bullet. Worthless douche bag almost got me.

All stores when purchasing gift cards, should ask customer if anyone from a company or business is asking them to purchase these cards. That should be a standard question from now on so they can be stopped at least one way

Especially if they're buying a bunch of them with the same oddly high amount on them...

My mother actually did this. After one of these scammer calls she called the police station to ask if there was a warrant out for her arrest and they told her no and that it was a scam. Funny thing is I had told her about these scams and to be aware, but you know ... Boomers?

Jesus christ, you'd think if your job was scamming old people you'd know how to be patient.
Never question an old person ability to test call centres patience. My dad who is hearing impaired was trying to get his home phone number converted into a cell number. He couldn't make heads or tails of what they were saying, due to his hearing and their heavy accent (outsourced to India). Both sides ended up very frustrated by the time the calling was done, and of course they wouldn't talk to anyone but him. That was a legitimate business call too.
Not just old ppl. I call 611 when I need help troubleshooting my data on my cell phones. It's a legit business but there's such a difference in accent that both sides get tired of the conversations by the end of it. Doesn't help that at 41 i have severe hearing difficulty.
From what I read in another comment, I think that their lack of patience is very much on purpose. They want to rush you and make sure you don't have time to think about the situation, because if you do you're likely to realize how unlikely and absurd the situation actually is.

I don't think I'd have even made it that far to be honest.
I've had one or two conversations with scammers, but I haven't had the imagination to pull it off. Early on, they ask me for my SSN but of course I'm not going to give it to them, so they hang up.
I just spent 2 hours on ph with irs scammer, I drove to bank, withdrawed $5000, drove to "bit machine" as per them and as per their directions. Then every street he told me to take I told him it was closed. He got so frustrated and depressed that he had to hung up after two hours. I did all that sitting on my couch😉
