  • The Mario sports games are a unique series that really have basically no competition. They combine fairly complex mechanics with easier to understand actions, making the games easy to learn, hard to master. Today we'll be talking about the previous entries in the Mario Golf series, including all console and handheld releases! I hope you enjoy this summary of the history of Mario Golf games!
    Also no Mario Sport Superstars because we don't talk about that game... also this was already almost 50 minutes long.

    I don't think it's fair to say that Mario Golf was Mario's first sports game. Mario's Tennis came out for the Virtual Boy in 1995, and further back, Mario was a playable character in NES Open Tournament Golf (Mario Open Golf in Japan).

    Fantastic video! There's not enough high quality Mario Golf content like this on youtube. It was the perfect nostalgic trip down memory lane for one of my favorite game series. Replaying World Tour right now, after the disappointment that was Super Rush. Sad the tournaments are no longer going on, but it's still a blast in single player!

    Toadstool Tour is one of my all-time favourite games, and yet this video is the first I'm learning of World Tour's existence.

    28:02 I couldn't agree more, early 2000's nintendo will always be my favorite era of nintendo, so many of those games still hold up so goddamn well and are insanely charming, it sucks that most of them are wildly expensive by this point, despite this though my gamecube collection is still going strong 💪

    Mario was the main character for Nes Open Tournament Golf, he's also in Gameboy Golf. I'm not sure in the gameboy one but Mario is referenced by name in the Nes Game.

    Technically Mario Golf isn’t the first Mario Sports title. That actually belongs to Mario Tennis on the Virtual Boy. That came out in 1995. Years before Mario Golf. Awesome video! Looking forward to watching more videos!

      NES Open on NES also counts as Mario stars in it with supporting cast.

    Toadstool tour was the last golf game I played (I just didn't have money and freedom to get any others) and it's just so superb. If I still had it, I'd go back and play it again. It was such a fun game, even as single player.
    ALSO I'm so glad you mentioned that RPG style tennis game because I really was almost certain it was just a fever dream I had one time. I absolutely loved that game. I logged a lot of hours as a kid onto it. I lost it ages and ages ago, though, and never got to finish it.

      I know im 2 years late but you could always emulate it. Dolphin emulator is great and not that hard for most pcs to run. Spend $20 on a mayflash adapter and you can plug and play with a gamecube controller too.

    Something interesting is that the Custom Clubs you get on Advance Tour can also be transferred over to be used in Toadstool Tour as well. Bringing over Clubs like the Super Pow or Risky made it even crazier since they increased the Characters Drive by 20% or 40% respectively and you can use them with ANY of the characters.

      Nice! I knew that there was some system like that similar to the power moves in the Advance Tennis game, but I couldn’t find any info on it so I decided to omit it

    Great video, very thorough. Although you did miss Mobile Golf, the Japan-only sequel to the GBC game, and also Mario Sports Superstars which was co-developed by Camelot and had golf in it. Might've also touched on NES Open Tournament Golf which was the predecessor to the series and We Love Golf which was sort of Camelot's unofficial Mario Golf game for Wii.
    Sorry, not tryna nitpick I'm just a Mario Golf nut lol. Your video was surprisingly in-depth though which I liked. For me, having played them all (including Super Rush), the N64 one is still my favorite. Sure it may lack some content but in terms of gameplay it's unmatched. It's very difficult to master, has a high skill ceiling, and is very satisfying to improve at. The sequels just felt dumbed down and lacked some of the raw challenge the original had. The original is very much a legit golf simulator.

      @salmence100  Před 3 lety +4

      Yeah I know I missed a few games that are considered part of the Mario Golf series. I was in a bit of a time crunch so I decided to stick with the games with Mario Golf in the title, I’d like to do a video with all of the other games too though!

    I was actually really disappointed with Mario Tennis Open, which is the main thing that hampered any excitement I could've had with Mario Golf: World Tour and the main reason I had to not be interested in it at all.

    Easily one of my favorite series of video games! I own every game as well as We Love Golf! for the Wii, which is basically Mario Golf but without Mario characters. Advance Tour has been my favorite even though I love every version in their own ways. Been playing Super Rush online nearly everyday since its launch last year & having a blast with it so far!
