ASMR Sounds: Quietly Marking Exams

- Hi guys! I'm still here! I'm just buried under a massive mountain of work. I really wanted to get a video up on the channel though since it's been forever, so...I made this! Relax to the sounds of me marking a pile of exams. Triggers include writing and paper noises, typing, and occasional whispering and muttering. I know it's not a gaming video, but it is kind of nerdy, so I figure it counts. Also, in case you couldn't tell, I had to blur the video to protect students' privacy. Anyway, my semester from hell will be over at the end of April, and I will resume regular uploads in May. Thanks for hanging in there, and as always, happy tingles :)

---- What's ASMR, and why am I whispering? ----
I whisper in my videos because they're designed to trigger a sensation called ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). ASMR is a very specific feeling that some people experience when they hear certain soft sounds, like whispering and tapping, or see certain visuals, like deliberate hand motions. It's often described as a pleasant tingling in the head and neck, accompanied by a sense of calmness and mild euphoria. Many people watch ASMR videos to help them relax or fall asleep. So good... such a noticeable difference when the sounds originate from genuine sources. You're ACTUALLY doing something and the sounds are the biproduct, making them entirely sincere.

I don't know what it is about this video, but I just keep coming back to it. It's such a great motivational video to run in the background while trying to do work. I find it's always easier to focus when other people around me are also working, and with this it's really easy to feel like there really is someone else in the room with me, working on stuff and keeping me on track.
Really glad you're finding it so useful! I'll be honest, I did this video because I had so much work to do and figured I could get two birds with one stone. It's great to hear that it's still inspiring focused productivity :D
***** Yeah. The typing videos filled a very similar niche, but those were almost a bit TOO relaxing for me to listen to while working. I'd keep falling asleep.

I always was distracted during an exam if my teacher was marking exams in the same room. This video is perfect!

+greebat Glad to hear it. I was worried people would find it irritating. I had originally planned to only blur the exams, but I ended up blurring the whole thing because I kinda moved the exams all around the frame and I'm paranoid about accidentally revealing sensitive information or something.
No it adds to relaxation I think. I almost want to see like water droplets dripping down the lens or something lol.

Wow! This is the only time I've found anything exam related relaxing. It's quite a nice alternative to the anxiety commonly felt when taking important exams. :)
One ASMR video I'd like to see is whiteboard marker on whiteboard. The sound is soothing for some reason.

I can certainly relate to schoolwork being quite, *constricting* to my hobbies. But I really appreciate that you still find time to upload videos for all of us, I actually really liked this video a lot and would like to see more like it!

I always come back to this, whether for work or sleep. I have a soft spot for teaching and it was, for a long time, my backup career so it's fun to have some experience by proxy.

I would like to see an ASMR channel take an exam, not really grading them. The thinking that goes through during one, and the short pen to paper timing is extremely soothing. Not to mention, the silent concentration and almost silent mumbling that one tends to have when faced with two answers that could be correct.

Back when I was in high school, when we'd take tests, the sounds of the other kids writing would nearly put me to sleep

Just here for asmr and surprised he's marking earths science labs. I'm majoring in secondary earth science teaching.
That's awesome! My background is in biology, but because my masters technically falls under Earth and Environmental Science, I ended up teaching EESC labs. It was a steep learning curve for me, but I really enjoyed it!

+ToastChickens Not a prof, just a TA, but I would love to teach post-secondary as a career eventually. Like +Michael Romano says, I'm currently teaching earth science labs. It's not my area of study, but as an environmental science grad student I get lumped in with the earth science department. May I ask what you teach?
***** I teach Philosophy and Political Science, I've mostly done Political Science since the Philosophy spots are taken by others. I think it's wonderful that people are aspiring to become teahcers. The final exams are in today, so hopefully, I'll have some great marks this year. Last years marks were amazing, the lowest mark I gave was a C-. The previous year I gave out 2 F marks. The worst thing about my job is failing students, Idk, I just feel bad, especially when I know they've worked hard on improving.
ToastChickens In 3 years I will go to an university in germany, but now in my school many teachers say they don't care if we fail or pass..but I think they do care for most students..right? ^^'
Depends on the teacher I suppose, but a *good* teacher will absolutely care about the success of their students :)

Hey Nick, this is a bit old and I'm not even sure if you're still in grad school or if you've finished. But did you ever use Crowdmark or another online-based marking software? I have yet to mark a physical exam in 7 courses TA'd, so curious if people have done both and what they think.
The test sounds a lot like my geology lab tests, except it was multiple choice, identifying or describing 40 samples, followed by 40 more conceptual questions.
I'll be starting grad school in that fall myself, and I hope I get an opportunity to TA. Funded positions are pretty slim in the program though.

+Kyle Simpson Awesome! Congrats on getting accepted and I hope you enjoy grad school. It's been pretty neat so far, and very demanding, but I think I heaped things on too heavy this semester. On the upside, I'll be done all my coursework requirements after this semester and then I can focus on my research.
I was so pleasantly surprised that the class you are (or were) TAing is Earth Sciences, as I just recently got my M.S. in geology. I remember the introductory lab finals...man so people got slaughtered lol.
