- Alice got married at a very young age. Months into their marriage, the man she thought would protect her started beating her. The beating became so regular that Alice thought it was part of every marriage…that a woman must be beaten by her husband. ..until one day he chased her with an axe determined to hack her to death.

Hack (as in with an axe) and hack (as in digitally) is correct grammatically. English language is one of the languages that doesn't grow so some words are used twice - same word different meaning. E.g. "right" - take a right turn or, I am right about this. Or novel - a new experience or a book.
