A Serious Runner Gets a Running Injury
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 14. 12. 2021
- It happens to even the most serious of runners: a running injury. After running through an injury hoping it all works out, a serious runner needs to take some serious time off. He'll pick up some cross training for runners, such as cycling and swimming, and use this time to catch up with friends who are far less serious runners, and get some physical therapy to make progress on running injury recovery.
While recovering from running injuries takes time and patience, in the meantime there's aggravation and running injury depression... will a serious runner be able to recover???

Okay Okay I guess I couldn't make it as a Pro Disc Golfer...Time to Get Serious about Running Now đ!!!
It might not be too late to become a pro disc golfer. Hold onto your dreams, Sage.
I love it, how you are "the friend how doesn't take running so serious" đđđ
@@TheSeriousRunner and then I could get a beer sponsorship! đ€Łđș....oh wait, Avery got me covered!
@@Vo2maxProductions some dreams do come true. đ»
When he went swimming in full serious runner outfit i lost it đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
This hit way too close to home, even as a non-serious runner.
Same I injury my tendonitis back in march I get depressed when I see someone run. Even told my self it okay I go for run and I remember I canât hit one mile before it start to hart. It took about six month too heal.
There's no such thing as non-serious runner. When you hop in you're in the game.
Swimming with the 4%âsâŠGENIUS! đđ€Łđ
How much more performance does the 4% Flyknit give while swimming or cycling? This is a question science needs to answer! :-)
Absolutely. I am hoping for at least 4% more buoyancy while swimming.
Indeed we need to follow the science đđŒ
Literally probably suggested this video by CZcams because I have been searching for answers to a running injury đ
Getting an injury just shows how much of a serious runner you are. Imagine being a serious runner but never having an injury, try explaining that to other serious runners..
Wow, what a conundrum đ€Ż
Never having to explain and getting new PRs regularlyâŠ
It's how we as runners bond.
Itâs called Pose
Haha hanging out with friends who are "far less serious about running" and it's literally Sage Canaday đ€Łđ€Ł
Nothing a 20mi easy run can't fixđ€Ł seriously your best work yet, we all felt and know your anguishđŻ
An injury comes when your will is greater than your body!!! Recovery comes when your will is greater than your body!!
Wise words đđŒ
I need to remember this!
Truth as always! Love the consistent outfit even when in an inappropriate climate or in a pool! Seriously I hope u get betterâŠ. Keep em comingâŠ. More videos during time offâŠ
Thanks! Yes, hoping to post more regularly in the forced off season.
Every single word you said in this video is TOO REAL. This is cheering me up after being told today I have to take 2 weeks off. Breaking my heart.
The pool and sadness of missing the frisbee is my favorite. So much satire đ
"My PT is my witch doctor..." #dryneedling. Keep it up - hilarious content....
Spot on. You crack me up with your witty insider view of the running community... so much of it is true, hysterical, even baffling. Keep the humor coming. We all need reality checks like this.
That swim suit
Ouch... all so true! The pool scene though... đ€Ł đ
Love the truism about when you heal, attributing it to whatever you did moments before turning the corner. (ie supplement). Then preaching about how you got it all figured out.
Itâs essential to preach on social media how you figured it out đ„ł
I, too, am a serious runner. On my one cross-training day per week, I have been known to indulge in a round or two disc golf. I find that ripping 500' drives with my putter soothes my quads and tightens my core!
This is gold. Iâm currently sidelined with a partial plantar fascia tear and can relate to just about everything you say. đđ
These have me pissing myself laughing. The dryness of the humour / how relatable it is. Absolute gold
The referral to MRI thing is so on point ahahahah
yes... yes it is... and thanks for the reminder... I need to call my provider to ask what's going on with the approval...
Definition of NAILED IT. Great dedication in the swim.
I bet those shoes work better than flippers in the pool. đ
That lonely hat floating at the end...that image was tough to take.
It broke my heart.
This is me when I am injured đ
Woah! So relatable đ€Ł I get super depressed when in injury.
As hilarious as this video is, it reminded me of doing my assistance work!
BRO posting this as I am taking a 4th consecutive day off from patellar pain in my right knee. Thank you.
Wow. Spot on. Hello from Vancouver. Going on 18 months due to ATFL tear

LMFAO you actually swam in costume! đđ
It's not a costume. It's who I am.
Lmao stop, this hits too close to home rn đ€Ł
for real! so true
We really need a serious runner trains at altitude/discussing altitude conversions
This can be arranged.
Great video! Working through Plantar Fasciitis right now.
That's an annoying injury. hope it resolves soon!
Damn this is goodđ
Even as an injured runner, with two kids having COVID, that swimming outfit made my day THANKS
Hilarious. I'm watching this as both of my Achilles tendons are aching.
thanks for watching -- and feel better!
love the Sage apparance
LOL! Another legend of a video Stephen! So funny that you jumped in the pool with all your running gear on. "hang out with less serious running friends" (Hey Sage! haha) Luckily for me, I've been able to avoid major running injuries. Probably because I'm not a serious runner ;-)
no major running injuries?? what obscure supplements are you taking???
OMG, Laughed so hard when he gets into the pool to swim wearing full running gear including shoes đ€Ł
Wow! Nailed it. I can relate to so much of this! Guess that means Iâm a serious runner too, right? đđđ
Man I was running crazy all year, then finally in my first ultra marathon, I got injured and didnât finish. The hardest part for me , is seeing other people run online, also the recovery,I donât know how long it will take to be 100% again
Dangit! I completely forgot you were running CIM - otherwise I would have made sure I was looking out for you and cheer you on! (I ran relay 1st half, so was hanging out at mile 26 when you were coming through). This video - as always - is brilliant!
And I was Terrence's relay partner who ran the 2nd half. Sorry to hear youâre injured but always love the satire. Martha
I too was at CIM with Terrence and Martha! Thanks for keeping it real. Recover well and quickly!
It wasn't pretty when I came through the finish đ€Ł see you at a future race!
The degree of commitment of this video to jump into the pool in the middle of winter!
And in full run gear đđ
This is so true
Perfect! And perfect timing before my MRI this evening
Thanks! hope it's nothing too serious...
Iâm injured right now and doing the PT thing. This video is spot on!
it's amazing how going running for hours is a given, but spending a few moments doing PT stuff is so difficult.
@@TheSeriousRunner It's like a constant reminder that your fitness is sliding with every passing minute. Good luck with your return to running, btw!

@@perryanderson9335 Fact. But, also, guilty. thank you for all the inspiration đ€Ł
I feel personally attacked.
Pausing this video because I must comment on the swim scene, which is hilarious. I must know if vaporflys or whatever those are make you swim faster?!?! Is that how kipchoge cross trains?!??
And just editing to say that it continued to be hilarious. And that I tried to have my dog diagnose my injury once. She let me run a good while with a tibial stress reaction. Thatâs why sheâs manâs best friend.
Perfection. đđ€Ł
thanks!
This is me. I increased my running mileage to 500km per month in April and May 2020 and got injuried. Then I took only 2 weeks off and kept running 250km per month till now. In the meantime I attended 6 marathons and ultramarathons with the injury. Of course the injury is not getting much better, and I have lots of mental stresses when using Strava too.
Yeah, I had initially sprained my ankle in March... and have run all summer and 2 marathons on it... and it finally caught up to me. When will we learn? đ€Ł
@@TheSeriousRunner It is not too late. I am doing lot of stretches and exercises at home, running only on soft surface limited to max 2 hour, and it gets much better. Looking forward to the 4 marathons that I register in year 2022.
Dude you're still wearing run kit while swimming đđđ
I cracked up about that lol
Essential for all serious runners đ„łđ„łđ„ł
THIS IS MEE!!! Literally just started collagen powder and been off Strava đđ
đđđ đ hits home right now. It's easier to run 100k than not run for 4 weeks.
Why do I feel like he's talking about me?
Maybe because you have 5K in your profile picture and username?
I am the living meme of that video right now (pretty much everything checks out with me :( )
Currently looking to push through my calf injury and self-diagnose on the internet.
Everything this video says is what I am experiencing now. Hating strava, avoiding shoe reviews, running vlogs. Amazing.
Iâm sorry youâre going through this. But Iâm with you. Youâre not alone
I'm glad I'm not the only one..
The floating hat at the end is Oscar-worthy!
now i finally feel like film school was worth it! đ€Ł
I do the samee!!! I thought I was the only one
Genius
Well you could re-watch every Kipchoge documentary while reading key running books to construct the intense training block after recovering.
yeah - that seems like a double-edged sword. Great content to pass the time... but running...
This is most attacked I've ever been
This one hit too close to home đą
Everyone seems to find this video funny - I thought head was dead serious and accurate and ok .., funny đđââïžđââïž
thank you for understanding
Excited to see another brilliant video as always but I really hope you recover quickly. Did it happen at CIM? You still finished with a strong time even if it wasnât what you hoped for. Keep the satire coming! It keeps us humbled, Martha
I've been borderline injured all summer... it was fine for Boston, but CIM apparently was pushing it too far. Ankle gave out at around mile 14... thought about DNFing... got back to it for another 3 or 4 miles... but then could only jog it in. Best guess right now is deltoid ligament pinch/sprain/something. but still trying to get an MRI to confirm đ€Ł
@@TheSeriousRunner What a huge bummer. Glad you could experience the unusual 125th Boston (it was my first but I was told it was pretty unique) despite getting BAAâd here-still bewildered but never mind! I hope finishing CIM didnât impact the time it will take to recover. Wishing you a thorough recovery â€ïžâđ©č Martha
When we are injured, we can binge watch Serious Runner videos. But you? Poor man, let me hug you.
đ€
Yeah I have not been on Strava as much as I used to since I been injured for like 12 months
People might think this is a humorous video but I think weâre just shedding light on some real issues
@@TheSeriousRunner only serious runners understand
I'm 3 months into a groin injury that is getting no better. I'm trying to comprehend not running again.
oof sorry to hear that. that's the worst. Does running #content help or hurt?
I been injured since January and itâs been hard
This is the story of my life.....

Next video: Advise on how to modify training when a serious runner gets sick (e.g. flu), please!
that'a a good idea. and timely. I hadn't picked the next video yet, so maybe! đ

No ways. How could you know all that about me.
crazy, isn't it? đ€Ł
đ bro, Iâve literally been running through ankle pain for the past 3 days even though all of the symptoms align with the posterior tibial tendinitis information that I googled. This video has to be God telling me to take some time off đ
I just bought new running shoes and after first run in them my ankle started hurting, i self diagnosed that its posterior tobial tendinitis and after one week i am good đ good Luck
A Serious Runner is willing to ruin a good pair of shoes for a video đ
They had two marathons on them, so they were already ruined đ€Ł
My poor serious runner son! That hat floating in the pool made me so sadâŠ
Don't be sad, Mom. Now, about "A Serious Runner Comes Home for Christmas"....
@@TheSeriousRunner Now THAT makes me happy!
Bro do you even do DMT or MCT oil??
The ending made me feel sad.
Made me laugh and cryđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łhaving been injured all year...what about how to make excuses for your pace on walk/runs when you're coming back? Do I post it on Strava or delete? It's important to make everyone totally gets that this pace is only because your PT has told you to start slow..
More like 100miles on a penny farthing equates to a 20min run. Nowadays a 200mile ride equates to a 20min run, but the conversion rate isn't quite accurate because Nothing is as impressive as running.
Cycling is what you do when you run slow.
NO PAIN NO GAIN! Injuries creates so much sympathy content đ
"sympathy content" i like that.
