  • After much deliberation, I arrived at what I think are the best rums you can buy for under $30. These are super high-value rums that don’t skimp on quality or taste. They are also available nationally, so you shouldn’t have an issue finding them at a local big-box liquor store like Total Wine or BevMo.
    If you’re building out your home bar, looking to expand your rum collection and not break the bank, or throwing a huge summer party, you can’t go wrong with any of these choices.
    I included dark rums and light rums, rums from Jamaica, and a rhum agricole (rum made from the juice of pressed cane sugar) from Martinique. I also went wild and picked out a couple under $20 that deserve to be considered. All of these will work wonders in tropical cocktails like the Mai Tai, Piña Colada, or the Daiquiri.
    The Under $30 Rum Lineup:
    Mount Gay Eclipse
    El Dorado 8 Year Demerara Rum
    Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum
    Clément Rhum Agricole
    Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum
    The Under $20 Rum Lineup:
    Appleton Estate Signature
    Flor de Caña Blanc
    Did I miss any high-value rums under $30? We’d love to try them! Let us know below.
    Cheers, y’all! 🌴

    Just a quick note, the Flor de Caña Extra Seco is actually aged four years and has the color filtered out. Also, Demerara rums are not made from Demerara sugar, but are named after the Demerara River in Guyana, after which the sugar is also named. Excellent list, though, I agree with all of your picks.

      @liberandco  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for these details! That's true about the Flor de Caña, and you're right about Demerara rums and Demarara sugar. The sugar cane used to create the molasses in El Dorado rums is grown and harvested from the banks of the Demerara River (from what we've read), but there is a difference between molasses and Demerara sugar, and that's our mistake. Demerara sugar is less refined than molasses and is what we use in our Demerara Gum Syrup. Thanks again for pointing those things out! We need to start sending your our scripts for proofing! @@liberandco The fact that the Flor de Caña is aged four years only makes it even more impressive how cheaply they sell it. My favorite way to make a Daiquiri at home is with a split base of Flor de Caña and Wray & Nephew. And thank you, that's very flattering! Big fan of your products, almost time for me to put in another order with you.

    Under $30, my go to for Daiquiris is the Bacardi 4 Year. Extra richness with the age and shows itself off rather well without being clouded out by other ingredients. Can’t go wrong!

    My understanding of why El Dorado rum is referred to as Demerara is because the area where is is made, which is now part of Guyana, used to be called Demerara, not because it is made from demerara sugar - it is not. Demerara sugar is sugar with some of the molasses left behind. All the rums other than the rhum agricoles are made from molasses. I like your selections, though. I haven't tried the Wray and Nephew although I've been thinking about it for a while; I think your review has pushed me to buy a bottle and give it a try.

    • @liberandco
      @liberandco  Před 2 lety

      Thanks, Glenn! Yes, we made a mistake about that! It's true that it relates to the area where it's made, near the Demerara River. El Dorado is made with molasses that comes from sugar cane harvested by the Demerara River, but it is different than demerara sugar.

    I have tried some verygood rums and I like a nice light rum or a golden but this particular drink is so delicious with a very inexpensive mass produced dark rum. Listen, I can't compare this to any other rum drink. I must tell you, This very inexpensive rum that I tried, and you must drink it just like this... Over Ice in a large tumbler 1.Pineapple juice 2. Fresh squeezed orange juice
    Equal parts or if you like a little more of one it's okay but you must use BOTH. Fresh lime. A couple chunks squeezed in at the end and the rum is Whalers dark rum.NOT the Special Reserve. Lean a little heavy on the rum. It's the most delicious thing I have ever had in my life. It's like a Cara Cara orange dipped in dark chocolate.

There are so many great options that if there's something you don't like about a particular rum, you can move on to the one. We think Mount Gay is a great pick, but understand not everyone agree. Yes you should be banned from the Internet. Wanna know why? Because you're playing the Plantation card. There are still huge amounts of different plantations around the world and that's quite all right. Should they all change their name because you Americans have given the term a very negative meaning? Absolutely not.
