I have often been told that I am an "old soul" and when I saw this episode and admired the way the men removed their hats out of respect for the lady, I agreed. lol. Say what you want about people treating each other as equals, but there has been something lost when there are pretty much zero signs of respect and good manners left in the world.

This was the first episode of McHale's Navy that I ever saw. It was first telecast on January 17,1963 and Kennedy was in the White House. John Kennedy was being hailed as the man who had ended the Cuban Missle Crisis and many people knew of his military heroism on PT109 when he was in the Navy during WW II. I'm sure many viewers knew the reference-and chuckled at Tim Conway's Kennedy imitation. BTW Tim Conway really was from Chagrin Falls.

      JFK a hero? well,,,
after the collision between the 109 and the Japanese destroyer(the only time in the war this occurred)Halsey wanted JFK to face a court martial. Ole Joe Kennedy wanted JFK to get the medal of honor. A compromise gave JFK the Navy life saving medal.
JFK was found to be associating with a certain female.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inga_Arvad
Ole Joe was to have said something about sending his son to the Pacific to the effect, This is the last time he(JFK) will embarrass me.
      I am not anti-JFK. I even remember 11-22-63.
The democrat party sold out the country when they ALLOWED LBJ to cover up the JFK assassination.
      All for political power.
And 58,000 KIA in Vietnam would still be alive.
Executive order 263 signed by JFK would have brought home all the troops.
Executive order 273 signed by LBJ cancelled 263.
Also note the first draft of 273 was dated BEFORE 11-22-63.

    • @TedBronson1918
      @TedBronson1918 Před 4 lety +2

@@johnbockelie3899 That story is a bit of a stretch too. I believe the part about him saving his crew, and the coconut, but I think they were asleep/goofing off when the 109 was rammed. Even back then when it happened, there was controversy inside the Navy whether to court martial JFK. Since the war was going, he was an ambassador's son, plus his heroism in saving the crew saved his own butt. The thing is, from what I see, according to his own testimony, he was at the helm. He could have avoided the collision simply by moving the 109 a little bit faster, since they were already in motion. Personally, I don't have any beef about it. I just want the truth told free of the hero worship and idolizing of the murdered president. I don't know that the version I read about years ago is correct either, but it rings much truer when compared to his own testimony. None of this makes me respect JFK any less. I hate candy assed history, sugared to be tasteful for the people. I call bullshit on it. I prefer to know the truth. Children can be filled in as they mature.

I got to like this screen writer. He does a good job and showing people like what a real congressperson is really like. A self-serving Jack@$$.

I have to admit, I get p#ssed when Conway makes fun of JFK. At least he was a real PT skipper, and he saved the bulk of his men when the 109 was rammed by a Japanese destroyer, and became President. what did Baldy do except become a Comedian who in my opinion wasn't actually that funny. Not to mention the speach Conway mentions wasn't made by Kennedy untill the 60's and this is supposed to be the 40's.

This episode actually was terrible. It would have been better if they could have found others ways besides singing to promote their agenda on the show.

No doubt a reference to President John F. Kennedy. The Congresswoman was nice too.
