I think he means little rust for an almost 25 year old car. I’m looking for one too and they are always rotted with tons of strut tower rust and owners who never took basic car for these cars.

Boost leak. STEP 1 PRESSURE TEST / boost leak test!

That's what I was thinking !!! I mean a quick look for anything obvious is not out of line but that is why boost leak tests exist.
If you have a turbo car and don’t have an easy way of performing a boost leak test you’re doing something wrong.
Exactly, or if you dont have one, just spray soapy water on all the charge pipes and connections. That will clearly show you where its leaking.

Hey guys, without getting in too much detail, my Z was totaled 1.5 years ago when some girl hit it while it was parked overnight. Being a new father then and having expenses and responsibilities adding up, I used the insurance money to catch up on things and whatnot instead of buying another car. We already had a Grand Cherokee, so it wasn’t that necessary where we live. Anyways, being a car guy since I was 12, I finally didn’t have a project car for once. Almost 23 years 😐 I stopped watching all car related channels on CZcams to not further my sadness. No more Throtl, no more TJ, no more all the ones I watched. Until this morning, when this video popped up on my feed. I worked 2 jobs in 1998, when I was 16, to buy a GSX. To this day, the model is one of my top 5 cars. No lie. Have to watch this series now! Thanks for bringing a smile to my face, memories of my late teenage years, and a feeling that I’ve been missing since I saw my completed Z a twisted mess and being flatbed towed away. Thank you!!
When I had my DSM... I used a spray bottle of soapy water an sprayed at all the vital areas/connection points where a leak may occur. Thus if there was a boost leak during the test you'll see bubbles indicating the leak. The injector seals are also notorious for dry rotting an leaking under boost. Others used a smoke test. Either way works better than just trying to hear for a leak. Glad to see this one in good hands.
Haha awesome. I've been in the planning of buying a 2g eclipse eclipse. '97 GST. Looked up on CZcams and saw that not many big channels had a video on them, mostly just owners posting personal videos. Then, a week later, you guys roll along and post this. Boost is not created until you are under load any turbo car won’t make boost at idle
Thank you, on idle the gauge will always sit under 0 as it's got negative pressure (I.e vacuum pressure) until on load and it'll move over 0
Been looking for this comment! Exactly! People... don’t be fooled... you will not reach 0 psi just off idle (as long as you’re tapping into the correct location). Only exception is a positive displacement supercharger and even then, only in certain situations.

I’ve heard GReddy Type-S blow off valves are notorious for boost vacuum leaks, the NGR Type-S fixes that with a stronger diaphragm while maintaining most of the GReddy design and the same sound
They’ve been out of stock for a while now. They still have the diaphragms in stock though so they can always rebuild the one they have with NGR’s diaphragm

I kept telling myself it was the Blow Off Valve from the beginning, I've been running DSM since 2003 and those Greddys always fail, I never use them because they are prone to leaks, those cars really love the HKS open atmosphere or Tial bov and they sound great. But Greddy 👎 their seals are trash..
I was always a fan of a crushed 1g bov

First off in F&F Brian didn't even have the 4G63t it was the dodge 420A motor you can tell by the intake and valve cover it's still a DOHC motor but no turbo I believe it was the same motor Dodge Neons had in their SXT versions.

If you guys still want to use that Greddy Type-S bov, you can get a new diaphragm for it from NGR Performance. They have them in stock.
Even just finding an older DSM let alone a clean one is pretty rare nowadays. Buddy of mine has a 98' GSX with 30k original miles and he only drives it once or twice a year
The best part about this is last week I looked to see if they built a eclipse but it was just the vR-4

When I had my 99 GST it had a weak pull. After re-tunning it at Mitsubishi dealer it ripped. It pulled better then many moded eclipses. Ahh the nostalgia 😍
You can find a boost leak very easy with some smoke in the system... always works :)

My Leon TFSI doesn’t go to 0 boost/vacuum on just a small throttle blip either. Depending on how much I push the pedal it climbs. I thought that was how it was supposed to work, it hits boost at a certain amount of throttle and revs? Maybe it’s different for different engines and turbos.
Can someone tell me where to get that air filter that’s in the video because I’ve been looking for one and can never find it. Thanks you guys.😢😢

man i think i need to do boost leak test too with pressurised air. last time i did using vape only. i blow the vapour in one of the intake hole and i can see where the vapour came out. but tiny leaks i will need the boost leak test. 1 thing i wanna ask, do we have to open the throttle when we do boost leak test?

The most common intake leaks on the 4g63T's are the injector seals, or all the seals on the throttle body.......thats the first place I always look on any of my 8 4g63t powered DSM's. do a boost leak test and spray soapy water all over the place.
We did .. made no difference.. thats why we did the boost leak test. 👍

Just curious, it obviously had work done before, so minus the boost leak, what was it running before, because it looks similar to the setups that I had on a 95 GSX a few years ago. And the 95 was running about 330-340hp. Were you getting numbers like that too?
