In the books, the one who protects Sansa and teaches her about the realities of the world is The Hound. For some reason the show changed it to Shae, which makes The Hound showing up in Sansa's room seem random. But in the book, it makes perfect sense because of the established relationship between the two.

Also, from what I remember, The Hound kept making unsettling rapey comments towards Sansa throughout the book. Plus, he was drunk in that scene when he offered to take her with him to leave King's Landing. There was no guarantee that The Hound wouldn't just assault her after leaving KL, so she'd rather take her chance with Stannis.
@cannibalteddy6846 the hound tells her that story in the books. and IIRC he does threaten to kill her if she tells anyone.

I always thought that in this episode Cersei is kinda seeing Sansa as a younger version of herself: the teenage version of Cersei who was so excited to marry Robert and become queen (before life made her a fully cynical monster). And so Cersei is almost mocking and scolding and advising her own past self, venting her frustration at her own past idiocy because she sees it reflected in Sansa's behavior now. Everything Cersei says here is tinged with her own self-hatred and self-disappointment.

@@aylbur I really don't think so. I've seen this somewhere before, but the way I see it is: she loves her children, but only because she sees them as extensions of herself.
Rocks are the best weapon to use for sieges. People seriously underestimate what happens when a rock is dropped from high places on you.
Real sieges can last years. Mostly it's about trying to tunnel under walls to collapse them. There isn't that much fighting.
Boiling oil poured on besiegers tends to discourage them too
And rocks are relatively cheap!

Loras came wearing Renly's armour. Renly's soldiers who had defected to Stannis thought they saw Renly's ghost and they ran like scareddy cats.

In the books its Loras's brother in the armour (because book Renly was big built, like Robert), but in the show they merged the three Tyrell brothers into one character.
After Renly's death they said all his men flipped to Stannis, all EXCEPT the Tyrells. You saw Margaery and Loras crying in front of his body and both Catelyn and Littlefinger separately saying they can't avenge Renly from the ground. Then next episode we see Littlefinger in Tywin's camp during that "did he notice Arya" scene. But that whole cat and mouse game with Arya and Tywin was a red herring. The real crux of that scene was Littlefinger proposing an alliance between House Lannister and House Tyrell, the Lords of the Reach. It was as subtle as it was well placed. "Margaery wants to be queen I take it" Tywin asks Littlefinger. None of this would've happened if Littlefinger didn't pick up on how ambitious Margaery was when he visited Renly's camp. "No, I want to be THE queen" she had said. All the chess pieces throughout the season, even the unassuming ones, build to Blackwater. The Lannisters now have their southern flank covered. With supplies and men coming in, the tide of the war has turned completely. But who will be the true power in the capital itself? Them or Tyrells?
12:36 * is my absolute fav part of this episode -- the Pyromancer is the only character who doesn't look away or shield his eyes, Bridget was right, he is absolutely proud of his life's work, and very excited to see the results 😂

Ahhh the episode of season 2 i’ve most been looking forward to you guys reacting to. The battle of blackwater is still one of the best episodes and tv spectacles of all time and your reactions are awesome and prove it!!!
Yea, deff still one of my top 10 if not top 5 episodes of the series. Mind you this was when they still had a significantly lower budget and maybe only a million people were watching the show

I love drunk Cersei in this episode! Yes I do hate her character, but she has her moments, and Lena Heady is SOOOOOO amazing in the role.

This may have been mentioned by other people, but Bron was such a surprise for the UK audience. We knew him as Paddy from Soldier, Soldier (tv show in the 90s) and then one half of the duo Robson & Jerome. A lovely easy listening pair singing covers of Unchained Melody and Up on the Roof. Then he appears in GoT being a lady loving and badass fighter who says c*nt a lot 😂
Tyrion's speech is amazing but I personally love The Hound "Fuck the King" to Jeoffrey's face lolol
p.s. The song Bronn sang with the other soldier is The rain of Castamere, it's the Lannisters theme song. If you listen to Serj Tankian version, it sounds so majestic!
The best thing I can say about Game of Thrones is that throughout the show I found myself rooting for the people I was supposed to be against, sometimes rooting against them a moment later, only to root for them again until they did something that made me mad at them.
Exactly. You want Stannis to win the battle and kill Joffrey but you also root for Tyrion who is on Joffrey’s side.

As far as you know guys Tywin said he was moving onto Robb but instead he got his army to King's Landing after making an alliance with the Tyrells like Littlefinger suggested and took Stannis by surprise, only issue for Tywin is that he leaves Harrenhall for Robb to take

Podrick for the win! Best squire to ever serve! Again, the this show is all about the choices the characters make and the consequences afterward. The Hound decides to leave the services of the Lions. The dog needs to find his own pack! Sansa choses to stay in Kings Landing. The little bird remains caged. I think this was a big one for Joffery too. If he chose to stay with the troops, his story would have played out differently. Perhaps others would treat him more like an adult. More like a King.
Remember what Melisandre said to Davos' son from earlier in the season?
Lena Headey is amazing in this episode. Her line deliveries are gold.
No one talks about how Tywin got from the beaches outside Kings Landing to inside the throne room all the way up the Red Keep. Just in time to magically save Tommen.

In case you didn't catch it, what with this episode being a tad bit busy, the guy who slashed Tyrion's face was a member of the Kingsguard (Ser Mandon Moore). Same one who Cersei ordered to make an example of the people who were attempting to flee the castle earlier in the episode.
Just so you guys know, they could only use Wildfire once because of how flammable it is. The pyromancer warned them about it a few episodes before. And that’s why Stannis knew it wouldn’t be used close to shore. Fantastic reaction, like always!

After this episode, Stannis the mannis earned my respect. He's the only one I would bend the knee to.
One of my favorite episodes. The looks on the pyromancer's face when the wildfire is released is priceless. something I read about the actor who plays Illyn Payne..he was once in a punk rock band. He manages to look so mean all the time, but I can totally picture him rocking out and is probably a really cool guy..lol
This was the last episode with Wilko Johnson as executioner Ser Ilym Payne. The actor got cancer and had to quit filming. He died 2022.
the song sung on 3:55 if "Rains of Castamere" its an old Lannister song about genocide basically,its pretty nice aswell and becomes iconic as show progresses!
What happened at the end is Tywin coming with Tyrells and men from Casterly Rock,he came at the end with purpose as seasoned old war general,he minimized his losses and practically is savior of city.
Last sequence between Cersei telling a tale to her Son Tommen,with battle March and Tyrions fate in question is first clue to GOT being best show ever!! u ain seen nothing!!!

"i dont understand, what just happened" the Tyrells (Renlys lower boys family) joined forcers with Tywins army.
The bears in the north she mentioned are the mormonts, and the foxes are the florents (stannis wifes house which are quite powerful but they dont appear so much in the series).
my favorite thing about Stannis is how he leads from the front.
He is the first in the boat, the first to land on the beach, the first at the wall and the first up the ladder. And then he has to be pulled back by his men.

The Hound and Bron are on rival teams so to speak... Joffrey is protected by the Hound and Tyrion by Bronn so when they are in that stand off before the war and you asked," why are they about to fight? Is this their first iteraction?" - likely not. the Hound probably also likes being the only bad a protector in the court of the king. He probably is turned off by Bronns social climbing too.
Its still so interesting how incredibly inefficient the battle strategy was. Or rather, how like 90% of it is missing. They could have done SO much more with the wildfire.

Arya assumed Tywin was marching on Robb and the Northmen but instead he went to meet with House Tyrell and made an alliance with The Reach. You will learn more about The Reach in this season's history and lore.

Ilyn Payne, who is guarding the women, is Podrick Payne's cousin. I don't know whether he deserves to die because he followed Joffrey's order and served as executioner. People have a lot of sympathy for Sandor, and he killed Mycah, a little kid who's only crime was playing with Arya. Although "just following orders" is a weak excuse too.

Guys the Hound fire trauma comes from when his brother burned his face as an infant. Little Finger addressed this at the jousting where he saved Loras from his brother.
Drunk Cersei is unhinged and I love it. Don't get me wrong she's a complete bitch but the pretense is gone and she's being completely honest with her emotions. And whilst she is not exactly being nice to Sansa she is being truthful and this will break her innocence and naivety but strengthen her resolve in the long run.
