Testing out the 2018 Boston Whaler 150 Super Sport!

- In this video, I take out a 60th anniversary edition, 2018 Boston Whaler powered by a 60 hp Mercury four stroke outboard. The boat performed amazingly and I had an awesome time with it. These are nice to wheel! Back in 2008 we where invited as a dealer from over the pond to BW’s 50 yrs anniversary. The 13 SS and 15 SS were brand new then. These were the only Whalers we were allowed to wheel alone without a “Whaler captain” 😄. Great do it all in a small quality package - Got expensive when I ticked all the must have extras though😳 Nearly ordered a 15 with it all back then.

@@WhalerNation Thanks, somehow I managed to get hold some rare Whalers.. The Impact is a fantastic 12 footer, it’s smooth and with a hefty Whaler feeling - It’s a big Whaler in a small format. Mine now has a Mariner 40 Magnum (4 cyl/two stroke) - a “barn find”; 1 season in freshwater, stored since 1997.. it looks like new. And the sound image this makes, not far from Mercury’s L6! I hope to upload a video of it in the near future, be sure to test one if you stumble over one!

@@WhalerNation Yes do get one if you find one! I didn’t even know they existed when I first saw this one.. From what I’ve read, it was only produced in few numbers just for two years. Nowadays, with pre-owned prices, these are full fledged boats vs these dinghy RIBs that counts 13 by the dozens..😁

Curious how this would handle outside of a lake. Montauk does just fine on Nantucket Sound. BTW nice clip.
They handle great on the ocean. I had another model year of this exact boat and I’d regularly bring it out in 1-3ft chop. It did perfectly

That boat deserves a 115HP and a 6" Jackplate at the very least.

We tested around 38-40mph.
@@WhalerNation Pretty good. I get the same with a 1985 15 and a 70hp 2 stroke. But it is set at the lowest position and not easy to raise any holes up.
Carson, which do you prefer, the 150 Super Sport or the 150 Montauk?
Good question! Both are great boats and I’ve owned both for extended periods. It all depends on the use. The Montauk is more my style, especially if you like going out in rough seas. But the Super Sport is just perfect on the lake and for a calm day on the ocean. I’ll look into doing a 150 Montauk video soon so you’ll be able to see the difference. I’ve got one now in my yard. Thanks for your support of the channel as always.
2022 13 ss owner here..:.yet to take a wave over the bow. Exclusive ocean use…pick your days though. I got caught in a thunderstorm on the St. Lucie inlet with other boats racing in and the 13 ss handled every wave those other bigger boats threw at her. Simply impressed with these boats. My next whaler will be a 17 Montauk.
Why is the 16foot slower? Even with the 90hp?
I’m not sure - I think it has something to do with the added weight and different hull design.

Hi Carson...I just bought a 2016 150 Super Sport with 60 Merc Command Thrust on it. I'm not seeing anything near 40mph for a top end. Did you guys use a GPS? Mine had a 4 blade prop on it, and it had burn marks on all 4 blades, so I re-propped it with a 3 blade. Getting a lot more RPM though.
Hey, thanks for your comment. You should see at least 35. A stainless steel prop, coupled with really great conditions, as well as perfect trim, should yield you with a pretty high speed. Also, whether or not you have people, equipment, or other weight is also important.
And yes, we used the speedometer apps on the iphone. They work very well. Let me know how you make out.
@@WhalerNation Thanks for the reply....planning on going out thurs...see what it will do. Been running with just me in the boat with no extra stuff. I know the Command Thrust motors have a lower unit that is geared lower than normal. I'm the 2nd or 3rd owner, and have no idea why it has that motor. Re-propped it with a QA2030X 14x11 prop.
Do you have a regular Merc 60? Mine has a 60 Merc Command Thrust. Not sure what the speed difference would be with the different motors. You have good taste in trucks too....I have a 2022 Taco SR5 4dr.
@@WhalerNation I priced a 2022 160 Super Sport at the Whaler dealership here in Michigan City, IN. With trailer and a 90hp Merc they wanted 42K.
