- A new era begins for The Edge of Night, with a new disco type opening featuring the Karrs, Cavanaughs, and the Scotts, a romance for Logan and April and the arrival of a mysterious young woman stalking Nicole soon to be revealed as Jody Travis.
The Edge of Night began its 26th year for the 1980-1981 fall season with a new disco theme song

This is the opening that I remember as a kid & I always thought Nicole was so pretty but I liked Nancy Carr too.
Never noticed Raven wasn't featured until now but it will change a bit in 81'.
Yes Raven was my favorite character beautiful and a good actress played by Sharon Gabet❤

I've got a feeling when Kirk remembers he's Draper crap is going to hit the fan for Emily.
I've said this elsewhere but I like this version of the theme... and I don't see it as "disco" but rather more of a jazz vibe, especially in the sax-heavy instrumental end credits version. (The singer...meh) It's also cool seeing teenage Lori Loughlin getting her first major TV role.

40 years later I am still thanking the Soap Gods and Goddesses for giving us Lois Kibbee. She can do more with a smile or gesture than most actors do with their whole bodies!

Is that tall, skinny tower on the far left of the skyline at 3:31 the old AT&T Switching Center at 420 South Grand? (In 2021, the AT&T Switching Center is barely even visible in the skyline anymore, but here it's like the featured attraction.)

Other than Geraldine, the most obvious omission was Raven. I gather SG was being 'punished' for leaving the show the previous year. Fortunately, that was corrected in future opening. (The next one was the best - with her in the red dress.
Maybe she wasn't on contract? That's often the determining factor for who shows up in the credits.
I bet people were rushing to thier rotary and newer push btton phones to xclaim to friends/ family the new theme!!!!!
I think nichole was the prettiest woman on the show
this nicole, yes, she's replaced in the 1980s by another actress who was pretty but not as much as this one

Why can't Draper just sit on the furniture? He's been in that window box forever.
I really like(d) this opening - really snazzy - but why wasn't Geraldine (Lois Kibbee) omitted? Next to Mike and Nancy, she was the next most-senior cast member at this point. I know that with the next version of this opening, she's there, but she should have been there all along. Just sayin'.

Yeah, this version & the last was the best! But, then again, all the themes were great!

Probably because she wasn't part of a "couple" at that point. For the debut of this theme, they seemed to concentrate on their three main couples.
