  • Every Friday afternoon in Shanghai, you can find the Muslim food market! It’s an absolute heaven for meat on sticks and other amazingly delicious Xinjiang foods. You can find it at the intersection of 澳门路(Aomen rd.) and 常德路 (changde rd.)
Big thanks to Teacher Mike for joining me!

You know, why waste time arguing with people who keep their minds closed about China?
    You won’t change their minds.
Those who are inspired to go and see for themselves, will do so and have their own experience. Good or Bad.
Those who throw in “Xinjiang” “Tiananmen” “Winnie the Pooh” remarks usually do so without doing fact checking or travelling to these places.

China is known to be a multicultural, multireligious and multiethnic country since time immemorial. I'm fourth generation overseas Chinese, none of my family members have ever lived under the PRC but having studied at least some history of my ancestral hometown which is Quanzhou, the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road, where Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta called it the "Alexandria of the East", and "one of the world's greatest havens of trade and commerce". It is also where the first Arab style mosque was built in China, the Ashab mosque (清净寺), and the city even has an Arabic name: "Zayton" which means "olives". At its peak hundreds of thousands of Arab and Persian traders were recorded to have lived in the city and even up till today there are many remnants of the city's multicultural, multireligious past. Hindu, Buddhist frescoes and stone carvings coexist in temples, and the city also has one of China's only Manichaean (a religion from Iran) temples known as Cao An (草庵).

Muslim food is always amazing in China. Apart from the Uyghurs' central Asia style cuisine, you have almost a local version of Muslim cuisine for each and every different region in China proper. The diversity and the unique ways of fusion testifies the long history of Culture blendings in China.

You don't find the Taiwanese stlye food market in north China which is a shame. I am from Beijing, the only quasi food markets we have here are fake af and are for tourists. I wish there'd be a street that gathers all different muslim cuisines of China. Then I can move my crib there and never cook by myself anymore.

Meanwhile real Kristallnacht is actually happening in China, Hong Kong as "peaceful pro-democracy" protesters are so ingrained with fascism, they proudly video tape themselves yelling racial slurs and smashing local moms&pops businesses with the owners hiding inside, as well as raiding HK corporations who voiced pro-China opinions like Meixin Bakery, and any organization that comes from the mainland like the ICBC bank.
But Washing Post would rather do "journalism" about how "reportedly" millions of Han men are "secretly" sleeping with Uighur women while their husbands are forced to work in "concentration camps", and somehow not one trace of evidence are able to be gather on anything because it so secret! You are with the Enemy if you don't just accept what media says as Truth! Yes this is the real existing state of "journalism reporting" in English MSM these days. George Orwell didn't even go this low when theorizing his deepest dystopia.

We have a couple of Xinjiang restaurants in Melbourne and that type of spiced lamb skewer always makes it into the Chinese New Year celebrations in Box Hill and Glen Waverley. Every time we go to our local hot pot restaurant we order the lamb skewers. It's a staple. Also that rice, makes sense that it would be sweet potato but I always assumed it was just carrot. Super yum! 👍

I grew up in Beijing right next to an Uyhgur market where I eat their BBQ skewers or pasta dishes almost everyday. I also have teachers and classmates from Xinjiang growing up. They are a bunch of happy people just like the rest of the Chinese people are. I was actually jealous of them having the privilege of going to better schools, having more kids, ect. Then I came to the States, was told that those Uyhgur people must be all paid actors of the CCP and all real Muslims were locked up by the CCP🤣. I try to tell them my own experience but then I was told by a bunch of people that never been to China that I was "brainwashed" by the CCP....What should I say?

So I’m sure your life is lovely in China. We’re not talking about you we’re talking about people who can’t live in Shanghai because the government gets to control that.
