  • My thoughts on my Harley Davidson Twin Cam 103 engine. I also have a power commander and stage 1 exhaust and intake. This engine is so easy to enjoy and yet very, very, very, torque happy at low r.p.m.'s

It's 2024. I've been a Guzzi / BMW rider for decades and wanted an HD before I hung up my leather for good. Kids in school, life, wife at home, I had to wait. in 2014 I rented a Street Glide 103 for a 600 mile weekend and fell in love with it. Life finally settled down, I'm 65, and I bought a 2016 Road Glide Ultra with the HO 103. Low mileage and the previous owner put a catless header on it and large baffled slip ons. Tuned it with a V&H FP-3. It pulls like a train. You're right, that 2,500 rpm is the sweet spot and I run from there to 3,500 on the highway. Great engine. It's twin cooled so it has radiators in the lowers and it does have the EITMS rear cylinder cut out at idle when hot, but that can be defeated. Having no cat really cuts down on the heat radiating from the exhaust onto your leg too.

I am 67 and own a 103. Great engine. Great performance. No regrets. Prouder than a 107 / 114 owner.

You are an inspiration! I hope To be on this bike at your age. First bike I have ever owned that exceeds my expectations.

The last thing I want out of my Harley is to be more refined.

I had a 88 twin cam in a '05 Wide Glide. Rode that thing for 150K miles, no problems. Got 96" twin in a road king which run very well. Then decided I needed an Ultralimited and it has the 103. Good engine. Especially after getting it properly tuned. This 103 runs!

I got a R/K Classic with a 103 and a stage 3 kit. I just bought it a few months ago. I am still blown away how fast a 800+lb bike will do 20 to 100mph. Its ridiculous and makes me smile all damn day long!!
    Nice bike you got man!!

Exactly this is like a train, doesn't matter if goes byself or load with two, up to hill or down. That 6 speed gearbox if you put in a little bit thicker oil becomes smooth as batter. This bike has the best gearbox-engine tune what I ever ride. This two just belong to other.

What kind of oil/what weight of oil would u recommend?

Get the cat out with a set of headers, and it will run way cooler. Since I’ve done this on my 12, the rear cyl. de activation hasn’t kicked in yet.
