Bummer. I can't even plug my 1/4 jacks into the 2 large XLRs. Why Tascam why....? You could have just used the same ports x8 style of XLR combo sockets.

Looks great but some strange design decisions. Why has the X6 now suddenly got a 3.5mm input for 5 volt PiP mics and the X8 not ? I guess not many people will miss 192 kHz, but probably should have been included. Seems to me like the X6 and X8 should have been incorporated to make one great recorder with 3.5mm input, 192kHz, TRS inputs and swivel mics. Instead we have two recorders that ended up like a mish-mash of what many people want, with neither recorder being a prefect fit. The whole Bluetooth dongle thing drives me nuts too. Should be incorporated into the unit as standard.
Looks nice though, I got to say. And with B&H showing a pre-order price of 369 USD it's priced pretty well too. I guess this could sell very well after Zoom royally screwed up with their new M2 and M4 units.
How exactly do your complaints break your workflow?
@@ayoungethan It's got nothing to do with workflow,. More a case of neither recorder offers the complete package for me personally.
Up front, I love the compact design and I would buy it in a heartbeat but if you know as a manufacturer and can do it, why are features like 192 kHz and XLR/TRS missing? Ok that only 6 connection options are given by the compact design is clear to me. But why the other restrictions. Is there so little space in the box that you had to do without it or is it a marketing decision because then no one would buy the X8?
Might be to manage heat dissipation, and maybe they use cheaper/less capable ADC converters to keep the price down. Also, just curious, is 32 bit float with 96 kHz not adequate for your use case?
When would you actually require 192kHz ?

I was about to get this but the lack of xlr/ 1/4” combo port killed it for me. Also does this record in 32bit when using the 3.5mm port?
If the combo jack was the dealbreaker, we'd recommend looking into the larger model, the Portacapture X8, which features four XLR/TRS combo jacks. And, yes - when recording with the 3.5mm port 32-bit float is still an option.

Can you link explain what microphone is that attached to the audio registrator when the sound designer is recording the car door sound? It is a sort of magnet or what?
Hello! That is sound designer Robert Dudzic and he's using a pistol grip that holds the recorder and external microphones. The shotgun mic you see him using is actually screwed into the grip for secure use.

I liked the X8 very much and bought one. It's really awesome. But this X6 is not what I expect BUT it is what it is.
Why not release X6 without stereo mics and just 4 Combo XLR connectors. The smaller screen size in the X6 is very suitable.
Well, just an opinion, I would repurchase it if it comes as I described.

What are the differences compared to the X8? Except that there are two less XLR inputs? And how about price? Is it much cheaper than the X8?
X6 = 96khz / X8 = 192 kHz, X6 = XLR / X8= XLR/TRS - i think the price ist between the DR-40X and the X8 something round about 299 and 399 €

@@dominikhaering X6 also has a 3.5mm input for 5 volt PiP mics (X8 not), and the X6 built-in mics swivel instead of having to remove them on the X8.
And a small screen to drop the price down !!

can we use 32 bit float when recording in internal user interface mode?
Hello! I'm not quite sure what you mean by "internal user interface mode", but the X6 can record directly to the SD card in 32-bit float, or, if your preferred DAW is able to record in 32-bit float the X6 can be used as a USB audio interface to do that, as well.
Why is it that when an external microphone is connected to the xlr input, a small signal indication lights up on the other input (input is disabled)?

@@TASCAMUSA In manual mode. It turns out that it was necessary to disable global reverberation in the settings. After that, the signal indication on the off channel disappeared.
