  • Today's video is just for fun. After last week's episode, I figured it would be good to do something light. It's a story about tanning, virginity, and how we basically can find anything attractive so long as it means that person is doing well socially.

You need some custom hacked-up shit made from a Raspberry Pi.
And it's gotta run some kind of Linux, too. Unless you REAL hardcore and willing to do BSD. Either works, though.
TRUE status-symbol aesthetic means you gotta look like you ain't been outside since Amazon came out.

~2:23 It's really a bit of both; plenty of cultures viewed light skin as favourable due to tans being associated with outdoor labour, but other cultures only view light skin as favourable due to more recent western influence. In Black Americans and Caribbeans, for example (especially the latter), colourism came about based on the better treatment of mixed race people compared to people with more African ancestry/darker skin. In India, meanwhile, dark skin used to be seen as desirable (I'm not sure if there was any specific reason for this, but old Indian texts certainly glorify dark skin), whereas colorism and skin bleaching is a big issue in modern India.

While they didn't get everything quite right for plot and time reasons, it really surprised me how much of the film turned out to be evidence based. You are not the only one, being a fair haired Scot I also have a hard time to get a healthy glow. Most of the time I go a bright pink and then back to pale. So I can sympathise with you.

  • @anentiresleeveoforeos2087

initially thought this was going to be a pseudo-rant about trolls in the comments then i felt guilty after the video for thinking you'd stoop to that level. i'd never knew about the whole 'sending virgins to caves' thing, pretty cool.

Is it possible than rather than a symbol of richness tanning could be more related to a symbol of health? It implies you are strong enough to go outside and work or face the elements, that you have the energy to be social and outgoing. I think that our apparent inherent attraction to tanning is more primal than social imposed.

Are you telling me as a "tan" skin brown guy, I'd be considered a multi-millionaire in Canada.
What would a black guy be considered - a billionaire ??

I think naturally untanned people envy people who are tanned, and vice versa. I would sure like the bronze of a greek or turk f.ex.

Well, if your natrually tan or brown it's not impressive. That's like a fat chic with big tits or skinny guy with abs, it doesn't count.

Great vid.. It's funny how everyone tries to act like they don't care what others think... Yet everyone spends hours a day primping to make sure they look good for.... Themselves... Right.
